Project 4: Environmental Issue Mosaic
Environmental Issue: Water Pollution
For this project, I worked on creating a mosaic piece that visualized an environmental issue and my issue was Water Pollution. Water pollution is a common issue in our world as water is what keeps us going and is necessary for our survival and the production of many products. It also is 71% of our entire planet and along with many other environmental issues, water pollution is killing our planet and our people. Water pollution is a major problem in places like Russia, India, China and many other places. Until we tackle issues like water pollution, our world will continue to suffer. We can begin by better waste disposal and recycling more, as well as reducing the amount of oils and pesticides that run off into our water sources. I created this mosaic piece by painting the image of the young boy with a bottle of dirty water with the paint brush tool on Photoshop from an original image and then using the lasso tool to cut him out. I placed him into an image of boaters sitting in the middle of water full of garbage and litter. Then I used the website Mosaically.com that I saw a classmate use and I input additional images of water pollution to make up the overall image. I do actually enjoy how my piece turned out and might be using the Mosaically site more often.

Project 4 intro/tutorial
Mosaic is a piece of art created from the arrangement of smaller pieces like glass to create an image or portrait. Some early examples of mosaics were found in the 2nd century of the 3rd millennium BC and others found in a temple in Ubaid, Mesopotamia. The Greeks created the mosaic art style using pebbles and from there, other small materials like glass, stones, and shells were used in mosaic artworks. The first media of mosaic art is 2D, which may be flat creations like walls or kind of like a collage of physical pictures pasted together to create a single portrait. Another is 3D where you can see around the entire form like a sphere or a cup made of glass pieces. And, also, digital forms where there are collections of digital pieces combined like emojis or images that form the overall image. They can also be made up from changes in pixels in a digital program. Three digital mosaic artists are (from top to bottom) Pep Ventosa, Yung Jake, and Christopher Kates, and an app to create digital mosaic art on is Photoshop or a phone app called Pro Photo Mosaic Creator.

Happy December!
2020 was a lot of the worst. But here, we’d like to keep focusing on the not-so-worst. So, let’s start with focusing on the greatest hits of this year’s blue hellscape.
And, if you want to delve deeper into what made us all happier in 2020, then you know where to go for that.

Project 3: Create Data Visualization/ Infographic Poster Design
Worked on this Gastric Cancer poster on Adobe Illustrator and incorporated my Adobe Photoshop drawn stomach and tumors into the project. The project was pretty easy for the most part, especially because I took a little more time to learn a bit more about Illustrator using YouTube and google. I used brushes, different strokes and fills for the text, and also created a background colour to make the colours stand out instead of just using a white or a transparent background.

Saw this on Twitter. No artist found but I thought it was a pretty cool use of graphics. This basically describes me when I say I’m not mad but I actually am and this is how I really feel.

Also worked on drawing the different stages of stomach cancer in Photoshop as well. Didn’t want to draw out the words so I decided to type them out in the final product of the project. I did this with different sizedbrushes as well as layers to give different effects on the tumors.

Been working on my brand logo and design for the future on Adobe Illustrator using the artistic brush that looks like paint splatter. And also incorporated the different fonts in the logo to make each word stand out.

Worked on some basic skills in Adobe Illustrator using a tutorial to create this butterfly and flower vector drawing. I actually enjoyed the tutorial because it looked hard in the beginning but as it went along, got really easy to understand.
