Gravity (2013) is a Sci-Fi film directed by Alfonso Cuaron, starring Sandra Bullock as Dr. Ryan Stone and George Clooney as a Veteran Astronaut, Matt Kowalski. The story chronicles Stone and Kowalski’s survival mission because of a disaster that strike their space shuttle. In this specific scene, Dr. Ryan Stone was left in one of the Soyuz space shuttle that will bring her back to Earth.
Dr. Ryan Stone is seen crying in her dramatic monologue along with the error that made this scene famous. Her teardrop is seen floating in the space shuttle when in reality, teardrops won’t leave someone’s eye. Because of gravity, someone’s tears would stay around the eye area unless an astronaut decides to wipe it off which, in this scene, Dr Ryan Stone didn’t.
This misrepresentation is important because films like this can influence the people especially the children to learn more about the space world and its facts. Although this film is based on fiction, accurate representation that’s backed up by pure research is a plus. Nevertheless, the film got high ratings for the story itself. Rotten Tomatoes even rated this film a fresh, 96% score.

What I’ve learned about Filipino narratives from our recent discussion was that cultures and traditions has been with us ever since man came to our country. These traditions survived generations from generations because it is firm and well practiced from the ground up. It has impacted not just its origin but also modern generations because having the Freedom to celebrate these traditions despite being colonized (which impacted these) for hundreds of years is one of many values that’s innate to us Filipinos.
