Decree of Amnesty Promulgated in DPRK

The Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea promulgated a decree of amnesty on July 30 on the occasion of the 75th founding anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The decree said that the 75 year-long history of the glorious WPK is the one of warm love for people, in which it has dedicated itself to the people, being fully responsible for their destiny and future and taking care of them.

It noted that it is the consistent policy of the WPK and the government of the DPRK to take warm care of anyone who was born on this land, being wholly responsible for protecting his destiny and future.

According to the decree, amnesty will be granted to those, who had been convicted of crimes against the country and the people, on the occasion of the 75th founding anniversary of the WPK.

The amnesty will take effect from Sept. 17, Juche 109 (2020).

The DPRK Cabinet and relevant organs will take practical measures to help the released people settle down in normal working life.

Statement of Korean Committee on Measures for Sexual Slavery for Japanese Army and Drafting Victims

A spokesperson for the Korean Committee on Measures for the Sexual Slavery for Japanese Army and Drafting Victims issued a statement on Saturday on the lapse of 75 years since the defeat of the Japanese imperialists who inflicted untold misfortune and pain upon the Korean nation.

Noting that though it is said that memories of the past get vague with the passage of the time, the Korean people clearly remember the past crimes of Japan, the atonement for which it desperately shuns, said the statement

It went on:

Had 200 000 Japanese women been forced into sexual slavery by foreign troops, several millions of Japanese people been subject to miserable deaths after being forcibly brought abroad and the Japanese people been deprived of their family and personal names and banned from talking in Japanese, the Japanese people would never forget it.

But Japan, far from atoning for its crime-woven past, has desperately discriminated against and suppressed the Koreans in Japan and pursued policies hostile to the DPRK, adding fuel to the hatred of the Korean people toward it.

The Korean Committee on Measures for the Sexual Slavery for Japanese Army and Drafting Victims stated as follows on behalf of the victims of hideous inhuman crimes, committed by the Japanese imperialists, and their bereaved families:

First, the Japanese authorities should keenly realize their national responsibility for the inhuman crimes against the Korean people and make a sincere apology and reparation before it is too late.

All the inhuman crimes the Japanese imperialists committed against the Korean people including sexual slavery for the Japanese army and drafting of Korean people were not committed by an individual solider or an official at his will but premeditated and perpetrated by the "great Japanese empire" through invocation of state power and they were the products of the heinous policy pursued by it to exterminate the Korean nation.

Second, the Japanese authorities should immediately stop the hateful distortion of history and the impudent moves to revive the old dream for the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere", seeking to seize other's territory.

The Korean Committee on Measures for the Sexual Slavery for Japanese Army and Drafting Victims will trace and investigate all the inhuman crimes committed by Japan against the Korean people to the last, record them in history and stage a bolder struggle in demand of Japan's atonement for the past crimes until the Japanese government make a sincere apology and reparation to the Korean people.

Historic Cause of National Liberation

It has been 75 years since Korea was liberated from the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule on August 15, Juche 34 (1945).

Recorded in the proud history of socialist Korea which has displayed its dignity as an independent country admired by the world are the undying exploits of President Kim Il Sung, a legendary hero of the anti-Japanese war who liberated Korea to set a world-historic example of the national liberation war in colonial countries.

In his teens, the President grasped the truth that a man is the master of his destiny and is capable of hewing out his destiny.  On this basis, he advanced a new idea that no one would offer independence to the people in colonies and the cause of national liberation can be achieved only by their own struggle.

His clear independent stand is well reflected in the line on organizing and waging the armed struggle based on the guerilla warfare, the line on forming the anti-Japanese national united front and other unique struggle lines the President set forth in the days of anti-Japanese armed struggle.

Under the banner of national independence and self-reliant independence, the Korean nation turned out in the struggle against the Japanese imperialists armed to the teeth.

With full confidence in victory and do-or-die spirit, the anti-Japanese revolutionary forerunners fought in the spirit of becoming human bombs and devoted their youth and life to the revolution.

Lots of patriots and people turned out as one in the nationwide anti-Japanese sacred war and firmly rallied around the banner of the anti-Japanese national united front to form Juche-oriented revolutionary forces for national liberation.

Thanks to the independent revolutionary line advanced by the President, the Korean people could overthrow the Japanese imperialists' colonial fascist ruling system and achieve the historic cause of national liberation which the Korean people had longed for so eagerly.

Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule clearly showed before the history and world that people could sure to win in the struggle against the aggressors when they turn out as one with firm belief in their own strength under the guidance of the outstanding leader.

Today the DPRK people are dynamically advancing toward the victory of the revolutionary cause of Juche, upholding the banner of independence as an invariable one for building a powerful socialist country.

DPRK Leading Newspapers Praise President Kim Il Sung's Feats for Liberating Korea

Leading papers of the DPRK in their editorials on Saturday, the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Korea, praise the feats performed by President Kim Il Sung for liberating Korea.

Lauding the President as a legendary hero for all ages who set an example in the struggle for national liberation to be specially recorded in world history under the banner of independence and self-reliance and as a peerlessly great man who created the precious revolutionary traditions which should be carried forward forever by our state and people, Rodong Sinmun says in its editorial:

The liberation of Korea was the brilliant fruition of the idea of the President for national independence and self-reliant independence. It is an undying feat of the President for the Korean revolution and the cause of human independence that he set a world-historic example in the national liberation struggle in colonies.

The victory in the anti-Japanese war served as a springboard for building and developing Juche Korea by dint of independence and self-reliance. By firmly adhering to the independent revolutionary line in the state building and activities, the DPRK has demonstrated its might as the one and only politico-ideological power in the world and invincible military power.

It is the general review of the 75 year-long history that no one and nothing can ever check the revolutionary advance of the Korean people filled with the spirit of national independence and national self-sustenance.

Inexhaustible is the vitality of the revolutionary traditions of our Party that has been fully displayed for decades. When we invariably carry forward and develop the glorious revolutionary traditions created on Mt. Paektu, we can tide over any difficulties and attain any great goal.

Minju Joson also praises the President as the savior of national restoration who accomplished the historic cause of national liberation by waging a bloody war against the Japanese imperialists, crossing steep ridges and deep valleys of Mt Paektu, for 20 years since he pioneered the Korean revolution.

16th Meeting of Political Bureau of 7th Central Committee of WPK Held [August 14 Juche 109 (2020) KCNA]

The 16th meeting of the Political Bureau of the 7th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) took place at the office building of the Central Committee of the WPK on August 13.

Kim Jong Un, chairman of the WPK, chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and supreme commander of the armed forces of the DPRK, was present at the meeting.

Attending the meeting were members of the Presidium and members and alternate members of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee.

Present there as observers were directors, first vice directors and vice directors of departments of the WPK Central Committee, vice-premiers of the Cabinet, ministers, chairpersons of provincial Party committees, chairpersons of Party committees of ministries and national institutions, commanding officers of the armed forces organs and members of the Central Emergency Anti-epidemic Headquarters.

Upon authorization of the Political Bureau of the C.C., WPK, Supreme Leader of the Party, the state and the armed forces Kim Jong Un presided over the meeting.

The meeting discussed and decided on the issues of eradicating the flood damage and providing stable living conditions to the people as early as possible by concentrating all efforts, and on further strictly maintaining the state emergency anti-epidemic system in the face of the worldwide public health crisis, perfecting the regular commanding system for anti-epidemic work, on lifting a lock-down of the frontline area including Kaesong City, and on organizing a new department in the Party Central Committee, and examined the state event preparations for marking the 75th Party founding anniversary with splendor, before studying and discussing relevant measures.

There was a briefing on the damage by the recent disastrous heavy rains and floods.

During the rainy season 39 296 hectares of crops were damaged nationwide including Kangwon, North and South Hwanghae Provinces and Kaesong City, at least 16 680 dwelling houses and over 630 public buildings were destroyed or inundated, lots of roads, bridges and railway sections broken, a dam of a power station gave way and there were other severe damage in various sectors of the national economy.

A particular mention was made of the fact that inhabitants in the areas with severe damage including Kimhwa, Cholwon, Hoeyang and Changdo counties in Kangwon Province and Unpha and Jangphung counties in North Hwanghae Province are living in the evacuated areas, undergoing great pain in their living.

Briefing on a general situation of flood damage, the Supreme Leader said that the flood-stricken people must be suffering great as they are living in temporary dwelling places with their houses and family properties lost. He earnestly said that it is a crucial time that our Party must be responsible for their living and we have to go closer to them to share the pain with them and to relieve them of their sufferings.

Our state faces two challenges: anti-epidemic work to thoroughly cope with the world public health crisis and unexpected sudden natural disaster, he said, pointing out that our Party and the government must set forth correct policy direction to overcome these two crises at the same time and display excellent leadership arts in the three-dimensional and offensive campaign.

Stressing the need to rapidly organize and take all necessary measures no matter how long the state emergency anti-epidemic work may last and how many obstacles and difficulties may lie ahead, the Supreme Leader called on all the Party organizations and the power bodies at all levels to properly discharge their roles.

Saying that we can not make the flood-affected people celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Party homeless, he set forth tasks for different sectors to eradicate the damage of the flood and bring the living of the people to normal at an early date. He specified detailed ways for this.

He said that the flood damage rehabilitation should not just be confined to mere construction for removing the damage caused by natural disaster and restoration of the living conditions but should be carried out as an important political work for celebrating the 75th birth anniversary of the Party as a genuine holiday of the people and a revolutionary holiday cementing the single-minded unity.

He emphasized that we should spruce up the flood-damaged area to meet not only the desire and wish of the people but also the high standard of the times, and ensure qualitative construction in appropriate places based on the opinions of the inhabitants so that no damage can occur even though there come more natural disasters and flood in the future.

The situation, in which the spread of the worldwide malignant virus has become worse, requires us not to allow any outside aid for the flood damage but shut the border tighter and carry out strict anti-epidemic work, he said, adding that information work should be conducted well so as to prevent any violation of anti-epidemic rules among inhabitants in the flood-hit area and those mobilized for the rehabilitation work.

He said that through the active rehabilitation drive we have to prove in practice once again the revolutionary nature of our Party which shares misfortune and pain with the people and protects them by removing all those pains, the advantages of our social system. He repeatedly stressed the need for our Party to fulfill its sacred duty so that it won't feel ashamed of itself before the people and surely live up to the trust and expectation of the people.

He suggested issuing a decision of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and the joint order of the WPK Central Committee, the Party Central Military Commission and the State Affairs Commission reflecting the immediate fighting tasks for finishing the most part of the flood damage rehabilitation and stabilizing the people's living by October 10 through the coordinated operation of the army and people loyal to the leadership of Party based on the great unity.

The Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee expressed a unanimous approval for the ardent appeal of the Supreme Leader.

The meeting agreed on an issue of introducing new machinery for setting up nationwide regular anti-epidemic work system, now that the emergency anti-epidemic work has assumed prolonged nature. It also mentioned the issue for the new machinery to correctly exercise the authority it has been vested with and enhance its responsibility and role.

The meeting also decided to lift the lock-down of the front line area, including Kaesong, which has been enforced from July 24 following the emergency incident in the forefront area, based on the scientific verification and guarantee by a professional anti-epidemic organization.

Saying that following the past over 20 days of lockdown of the front line area it has been proved the situation of anti-epidemic work has been kept and controlled stably, he expressed thanks in the name of the Party Central Committee to the people in the locked-down area for having remained faithful to the measure taken by our Party and government, despite of inconvenience in their living under quarantine, and to soldiers, public security officers, security men and members of the Worker-Peasant Red Guards for having performed their duty of locking down the area with responsibility, despite of heavy rains and sultry weather.

The meeting also heard a report on how the preparations for state events in celebration of the 75th birth anniversary of the WPK according to the decision made at the 5th Plenary Meeting of the 7th WPK Central Committee proceed, checked the issues arising in preparing every event and took due measures to prepare at the best level all the celebrations with peculiar style as a great political festival to be provided as an excellent gift to the 75th birth anniversary of the WPK.

The meeting discussed and decided on the affair to set up new department in the Party Central Committee and defined its function and role.

The Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee expressed belief that the department to be newly established will make tangible contribution to safeguarding the dignity and interests of the state and people, reliably supporting and guaranteeing the political stability and order of the society and impregnably defending our class position and socialist construction.

The meeting also discussed an organizational matter.

Members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee were elected.

Kim Tok Hun and Ri Pyong Chol were elected as members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee.

The meeting re-called and by-elected a member and alternate members of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee.

Pak Thae Dok was by-elected as a member of the Party Central Committee and member of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee.

Pak Myong Sun and Jon Kwang Ho were by-elected as alternate members of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee.

According to a proposal of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee, the Chairman of the DPRK State Affairs Commission relieved the premier of the DPRK Cabinet and appointed new premier by exercising the power he has been invested with under the Socialist Constitution.

The Chairman of the DPRK State Affairs Commission appointed Kim Tok Hun as the premier of the DPRK Cabinet.

The meeting elected vice-chairmen of the Party Central Committee.

Kim Jae Ryong and Pak Thae Dok were elected as vice-chairmen of the Party Central Committee.

It also dismissed the directors of some departments of the Party Central Committee and appointed new directors.

Kim Jae Ryong, Pak Thae Dok, Pak Myong Sun, Jon Kwang Ho and Kim Yong Su were appointed as department directors of the Party Central Committee.

Chairmen of the provincial committees of the WPK were appointed.

Kim Chol Sam was appointed as chairman of the North Hamgyong Provincial Party Committee and Ri Jae Nam as chairman of the Nampho City Party Committee.

Meeting of Executive Policy Council of WPK Central Committee Held [August 6 Juche 109 (2020) KCNA]

The Fourth Meeting of the Executive Policy Council of the Seventh Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) took place at the office building of the Central Committee of the WPK on August 5.

Kim Jong Un, chairman of the WPK, chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and supreme commander of the armed forces of the DPRK, was present at the meeting.

Attending the meeting were Pak Pong Ju, Ri Pyong Chol, Ri Il Hwan, Choe Hwi, Kim Tok Hun, Pak Thae Song, Kim Yong Chol, Kim Hyong Jun, vice-chairmen of the WPK Central Committee who are members of the Executive Policy Council of the WPK Central Committee, and other officials of major departments of the Party Central Committee.

Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un presided over the meeting.

The meeting of the Executive Policy Council examined and discussed the issue of organizing a new department within the Central Committee of the Party and studied and discussed the ways to radically improve the personnel affairs system of the Party.

The meeting also appraised the work of cadres in major offices of the government and discussed relevant measures.

Then the meeting heard a report on the anti-epidemic work and the situation in Kaesong City that is completely locked down under the state's maximum emergency system, discussed and decided on the Party Central Committee's special supply of food and funds to the city to stabilize the living of its citizens, and instructed relevant field to take immediate measures in this regard.

In addition, the Executive Policy Council of the Central Committee of the Party discussed the practical affairs arising in the internal work of the Party and approved their execution.

Making conclusions on the matters discussed at the meeting, Kim Jong Un called upon the members of the Executive Policy Council to decisively improve the works of the fields in their charge by displaying high sense of responsibility and devotion, and organize and do every work in a revolutionary way as required by the idea and policy of the Central Committee of the Party by maintaining the correct orientation and the pivot in their works for faithfully implementing the decision of the Central Committee of the Party and by scrupulously organizing the work to do so.

Rodong Sinmun Calls for Ensuring Unity of Thinking and Action under Emergency Situation

Rodong Sinmun on Friday says in an editorial that all the sectors and the units are vigorously waging the campaign for thoroughgoing anti-epidemic work to meet the requirement of the maximum emergency system, true to the idea put forth at the emergency enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

By the voluntary and volitional efforts of all the people who accepted the decision made at the Party meeting as their vital work for defending their destiny and future and thoroughly carry it out without condition, the prevailing crisis in anti-epidemic work will be surely defused, it notes, and goes on:

All the officials, Party members and working people should ensure the unity of voluntary action in which they move as one under the unified guidance of the Party and the state and thus fully demonstrate the might of our state that achieved the single-hearted unity.

All the officials and working people should face up to the present emergency situation and ensure the unity of thinking and action and thoroughly implement the decision made at the emergency enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee.

Choe Ryong Hae Learns about Emergency Anti-epidemic Work in Kaesong City  [July 30 Juche 109 (2020) KCNA]

Choe Ryong Hae, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, first vice-chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, acquainted himself with the emergency anti-epidemic work in Kaesong City.

As part of the efforts to implement the decision made at the emergency enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party, Choe Ryong Hae made rounds of anti-epidemic checkpoints urgently established in the vicinity of the city and learnt in detail about the anti-epidemic work and supply of materials.

He called for strictly performing disinfection and quarantine inspection in accordance with the anti-epidemic requirements under the situation that materials including foodstuff and medicine necessary for the living of inhabitants are intensively sent to the city, thanks to the measure taken by the Party and the state.

The field consultative meeting discussed the matter to let officials and members involved in the anti-epidemic work carry out the directions and assignments of the Party Central Committee most correctly with the boundless loyalty to the Party, sense of responsibility and devotion. War Veterans Enjoy Themselves at Yangdok Hot Spring Resort [July 31 Juche 109 (2020) KCNA]

The participants in the 6th National Conference of War Veterans enjoyed themselves at the Yangdok Hot Spring Resort before and after the conference.

Our Party has always paid deep attention to the promotion of war veterans' health, putting forward them as the greatest treasure of our revolution.

Our Party took a benevolent measure of making the participants take a good rest at the hot spring resort.

The people in Yangdok County and officials and employees of the resort management office warmly welcomed the war veterans as honored guests upon their arrival.

The war veterans were granted a special favor at the resort which was built at the place of scenic beauty.

War veterans felt the greatest delight, while seeing the outdoor spa in pine forest of Onjong Peak and commanding a bird's-eye view of the scenic resort from the top of Tae Peak where they arrived on ski lift through fresh air.

The hot spring resort has a general service centre full of various kinds of exercise apparatuses and cultural recreation facilities and blocks for cure and recuperation, all of which were crowded with war veterans in a rapture of delight.

Officials and employees of the management office of the Resort took care of the veteran's health and life and presented birthday spreads and souvenirs to them.

The veterans enjoyed a colorful performance given by famous artistes of central art troupes.

Singing wartime songs together with the artistes, the war veterans recalled the days of the hard-fought war.

Enjoying themselves at the hot spring resort, the war veterans expressed their gratitude once and again to Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un who take warm care of them.

Participants in 6th National Conference of War Veterans Leave [July 29 Juche 109 (2020) KCNA]

War veterans who participated in the 6th National Conference of War Veterans held with splendor on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War left here on Tuesday.

Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un who values and treats war veterans as dear forerunners of the revolution personally attended the conference and made a congratulatory speech with high appreciation and respect for war veterans and also made sure that the congratulatory message of the Central Committee of the Party was sent to the war veterans greeting the V-Day so as to add luster to the feats performed by the participants in the Fatherland Liberation War in the history of the country.

Fireworks Display Marks V-Day [July 28 Juche 109 (2020) KCNA]

Fireworks were displayed in Pyongyang on Monday, the 67th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War.

Lots of people gathered in different parts of the capital city near the Tower of the Juche Idea, including Okryu Bridge and Taedonggang Bridge, to watch the fireworks.

At 21:00 fireworks were shot off to form a five-pointed star as token of tribute of people to the victors of the great years in the sky above the Tower of the Juche Idea amid the playing of "Song of National Defence".

The display of gorgeous multicolor fireworks seemed to represent the deep reverence of the people for President Kim Il Sung, an invincible and iron-willed commander who provided the history and tradition of eternal victory of heroic Korea by wisely leading the hard-fought Fatherland Liberation War.

Fireworks of various shapes and colors were displayed in the nocturnal sky.

Fireworks were set off in succession to the tune of the songs "Holiday of Great War Victory" and "We Will Defend General Kim Jong Un with Our Lives", revving up the festive mood.

Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un Makes Speech at Sixth National Conference of War Veterans

The following is the full text of the speech "The Feats Performed by the Great Victors Will Remain for Ever" made by Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un at the Sixth National Conference of War Veterans on July 27, Juche 109 (2020):

Esteemed comrades war veterans,

This is July 27.

The victorious July 27 is the day when all the people born on this land celebrate with surging emotions the great victory in the war that is etched in the past history, repeating the word victory.

Greeting the holiday of victory today, I am seeing you, esteemed war veterans, again, who created the great history, at this conference. I am so happy that I cannot find words to express my feelings.

It is an honour for us to have you, valuable teachers, at this conference.

Greeting the 67th anniversary of victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War, I, on behalf of our Workers' Party of Korea and government, extend warm congratulations to you participating in this conference and other veterans of the war and people who performed wartime merits.

I also extend noble respects to the revolutionary martyrs, both sung and unsung, who sacrificed their precious lives in the sacred war for achieving the reunification and independence of their country and the freedom and happiness of their fellow people.

Availing myself of this opportunity, I offer my noble respects to the martyrs and veterans of the Chinese People's Volunteers, who set a genuine example of militant friendship by helping our people in their revolutionary war at the cost of blood.

The distinguished feats performed by the victorious wartime generation of the 1950s under the leadership of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung and the spiritual wealth and assets they bequeathed to the coming generations are becoming more precious things that cannot be bartered with anything else as the days go by. The major and profound meaning of our victorious July 27 in modern history is never confined to the fact that a country and nation defended their dignity and sovereignty in a fight against the aggressors and created a military miracle that would shine in the annals of the human history of war.

The great Fatherland Liberation War was a grim war for defending our Republic in its cradle and the destiny and future of tens of millions of our people and, at the same time, the first all-out war between the forces aspiring after independence and the dominationist forces, between socialism and capitalism, that was fought with the start of the Cold War after the Second World War. As such, no precedent could be found in the fierceness and the seriousness of the confrontation. We could not be compared to the enemy in all aspects including the military hardware and economic strength as well as population and territory, but in this war our new-born Republic checked the military offensive by the US imperialists, who had been boasting of being the "strongest" in the world, and their vassal forces and defended its territory and sovereignty at the cost of blood. This was a greatest event that wrote an unprecedented heroic and legendary tale in the histories of our nation and the world revolution. The July 27 constituted a turning point in making our country and people that had been reduced to a weak state and nation take pride of place in history as a heroic country and people admired by the world and in bringing about violent storms of revolutions for anti-imperialist independence, socialism and national liberation on the globe.

But for the great July 27, there would not have been today of socialist Korea demonstrating its glories as the most dignified and independent powerful country, a people's country, in the present-day world and the imperialists' high-handed attempts to put Asia and the rest of the world in the sphere under their domination would not have been checked. It defined the orientation of the new great history of the postwar socialist revolution and construction, created the proud traditions and wealth with which our country and people could achieve victory for ever, transformed the global political landscape and forcefully propelled the trend of the times towards independence and socialism–this is another great meaningfulness of the July 27.

The victory in the Fatherland Liberation War was the victory of the ennobling patriotism and mass heroism of our service personnel of the Korean People's Army and people, the victory of justice and progress over injustice and reaction and the victory of socialism, the future of mankind, over capitalism, the refuse of history.

The Fatherland Liberation War, which made one clearly aware of the aggressive and brutal natures of the US imperialism and never forget them, deprived all the people on this land of their parents, brothers and sisters and their precious comrades-in-arms and friends, and brought them disastrous misfortunes and pains. However, thanks to the legendary feats of the victorious wartime generation, who overcame all those pains and trials, the great spirit of defending the country and revolution was created and unparalleled heroism, self-sacrifice and fortitude became solid as traits unique to our people.

Our victorious wartime generation is a proud generation that created a new history of carrying forward the Korean revolution by dedicating their blood and lives and developed the revolutionary spirit of Paektu into an all-people ideological spirit. Thanks to the service personnel, who defended every inch of their motherland at the cost of blood with the steely faith that they would surely emerge victorious as long as they were led by Comrade Kim Il Sung, and to the people on the home front, who dedicated their all to the victory in the war, the spirit of unity around the leader, the indefatigable spirit of fighting the enemy to the death and the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance of making weapons with bare hands could be displayed highly as a mettle of heroic Korea. That is why our Party holds in high esteem and give prominence to the victorious wartime generation, who brought about the victory at the cost of blood amid the flames of the war, as a proud generation who laid a cornerstone for carrying forward our revolutionary traditions.

They are also heroes who, true to the Party's call, established a socialist system and laid the foundations of an independent, powerful country in the spirit of Chollima, and great teachers who implanted an ennobling spirit and soul in the hearts of the rising generations. In the days when they played the key roles in all sectors, our socialist construction witnessed the fastest eye-opening advance and upsurge, and the tales of their feats have served as sustenance and an excellent textbook of revolutionary life and outlook on life for the peacetime generations who have not undergone the experience of a war.

They, indeed, are excellent revolutionaries and patriots and invaluable treasures of our revolution who, though they themselves experienced trials, have devoted their all to the rising generations by invariably and faithfully supporting the Party and the leader in the whole course, beginning with the grim war days to the days of postwar reconstruction and socialist construction. Our Party regards it as a source of great pride and honour to have such revolutionary forerunners as you, who have cherished an ennobling view on the rising generation and on the revolution, and gives prominence to the victorious wartime generation as models whom everyone should learn from for all ages.

Esteemed comrades war veterans,

The history of nearly 70 years after the war cannot be called peacetime as a fierce confrontation with the enemy has continued, and the threat and pressure by the imperialists to invade and plunder our state have increased moment by moment.

With the spirit and will of victory brought about by the immortal July 27, we chose on our own accord the arduous road of strengthening the national power, looking towards a bright future of our state, and have never changed our choice, tightening our belts, when others were vying with one another for the pursuit of immediate "prosperity."

As we must have an absolute strength with which to prevent and deter the war itself so as not to experience once again the pains and sufferings of the war in the 1950s, we have advanced along the road of self-development toward a nuclear state by braving all pressures and challenges and overcoming unprecedented adversity which would have brought others to their knees one hundred times. And now we have become able to reliably defend ourselves against any form of high-intensity pressure and military threat by imperialist reactionaries and other hostile forces.

War is an armed clash which can be unleashed only against a weak one.

None can now make little of us.

We will not allow others to look down upon us and, if they do so, make them pay dearly.

Thanks to our reliable and effective self-defence nuclear deterrence, the word war would no longer exist on this land, and the security and future of our state will be guaranteed for ever.

We celebrate July 27 every year from one generation to the next, but the day of this year, when our state has secured the strategic position the world cannot ignore but recognize, brings us a special emotion, and the significance of the victory in the war and the exploits of performed by the war veterans have become more valuable and prideful.

Comrades,

A long time has passed and many things have changed since the gunshots of the war ended, but the ennobling spirit the war martyrs and veterans displayed is still here, encouraging our people to a renewed struggle.

In the faces of you, war veterans, we are now visualizing the images of all the comrades-in-arms who failed to come back from the front in those grim years and the unforgettable martyrs who devoted themselves for socialist construction, and are girding ourselves to make redoubled efforts so as to be proud of ourselves before them. Just as you wrote a new chapter in the history of building a prosperous country by brilliantly carrying forward the traditions of the anti-Japanese struggle, the new generations of today will achieve the final victory of socialism of our own style without fail by inheriting your spirit.

The history of the victorious war teaches us the iron truth that a people armed with a great spirit can work a great miracle.

By etching the spirit in the 1950s in the minds of all the service personnel and people in golden letters, our Party will ensure that every one of them becomes a fighter who remains unchanged in any adversities and leads the life of artists of fresh miracles and victories so that they have no feeling of shame in front of the martyrs and war veterans.

We have never forgotten your rancour that you had to turn back in bitter tears after burying your fallen comrades-in-arms on the shore of the Raktong near the South Sea of Korea owing to a shortage of arms. Always remembering the truth that only when we have our sovereignty and right to existence guaranteed, can we achieve and promote happiness and in order to defend the destiny of our state and people, we must have strong power of our own, we will not halt even a moment on the road of building up the most powerful defence capabilities which no one would dare to challenge.

Comrades,

What the fighters of the war pictured in their minds so dearly in the so many days and nights of the do-or-die battles must have been a beautiful people's paradise which would be built in the 3 000-ri land. Our Party will strive with redoubled courage to realize the forerunners' dream and ideal of a powerful country without fail and make our people the happiest in the world.

All the people should glorify their lives as victors on the road of making their country prosperous, viewing themselves in the light of the lives of the victorious wartime generation. The present conditions and situation are difficult, but they are nothing when compared to those during the war days.

Our Party will make sure that all officials, Party members and other working people achieve proud victories on all fronts of socialist construction by holding up the slogan "Let us live and struggle in the spirit of the great defenders of the country!"

It will also prepare all the service personnel to be versatile, a-match-for-a-hundred combatants who have acquired the indomitable revolutionary spirit, valiant militant mettle and lofty patriotism cherished by the war veterans as part of their mental qualities and are well-versed in our style of warfare.

The history of victorious war hands down to posterity the feats of numerous heroes including Ri Su Bok, Jo Kun Sil and Kang Ho Yong in connection with the word youth. The Party will bring up all young people to be hot-blooded loyal persons and staunch revolutionaries who take the Party and country into account first and are ready to dedicate themselves for the sake of society and the collective like those heroes who unhesitatingly dedicated their only lives for the one and only country in the face of death.

It will ensure that the climate of respecting, holding up and according preferential treatment to war veterans and other forerunners in the revolution is created across society and becomes an unshakable national trait.

Our Party will look after you, war veterans, with all sincerity and hold full responsibility for your health and life so that you can become more vigorous even though you are getting older continue to add brilliance to your glorious life in good health.

It will make sure that Party organizations, government bodies, working people's organizations at all levels and all the people regard it as part of their noble obligation and duty to take good care of war veterans as they would do their own parents, and do all they can do for them.

Although time passes and one generation is replaced by another, the heroic fighting spirit and undying feats of the victorious wartime generation will boil the red blood of our descendants harder for all eternity and the great spirit and feats will live for ever with the victorious advance of our revolution.

You, staunch war veterans, defeated the US imperialists that had boasted of being the "strongest" in the world and the armies of their followers and weathered those severe years and all sorts of hardships; but as the saying goes that time and tide wait for no man, many of the veterans have passed away and the hair of you, present here, has turned gray. Seeing this, I feel sorry and regretful that time flies.

6th National Conference of War Veterans Held [July 28 Juche 109 (2020) KCNA]

The 6th National Conference of War Veterans was held splendidly in Pyongyang at the April 25 House of Culture on Monday.

Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea, chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and supreme commander of the armed forces of the DPRK, was present at the conference.

War veterans and persons of wartime merits who displayed unrivaled bravery and self-sacrificing spirit out of boundless loyalty to the leader attended the conference.

Present there were chairmen of provincial Party committees, officials of ministries, national institutions and armed forces organs, faculty members and students of revolutionary schools, and youth and students of Pyongyang.

Amid the playing of the welcome music, Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un appeared at the platform of the conference with war veterans.

All the participants raised stormy cheers of "hurrah!" in great reverence and trust in Kim Jong Un who represents the might and dignity of Juche Korea and the symbol of invincibility.

Kim Jong Un warmly acknowledged the war veterans, genuine patriots who made an immortal contribution in the country's history of victory in the war.

He also paid noble tributes to the well-known and unsung revolutionary martyrs who dedicated their valuable lives to the sacred war for the country's reunification and independence and people's freedom and happiness and the fallen fighters of the Chinese People's Volunteers who set a genuine example of militant friendship while helping the Korean people in their revolutionary war at the cost of blood, and war veterans.

Highly appreciating the heroic life of the generation who performed the undying feats and created the noble fighting spirit in the hard-fought Fatherland Liberation War true to the guidance of President Kim Il Sung, he expressed great belief that the war veterans would successfully hand down the spirit of the 1950s to the rising generation as the bloodline of faith.

The participants in the conference were greatly excited by the congratulatory speech full of high appreciation, respect, noble comradely loving care and noble revolutionary obligation for the participants in the great Fatherland Liberation War.

As soon as Kim Jong Un finished his speech, loud cheers of "hurrah!" resounded around the venue of the conference once again.

All the participants extended the greatest glory and the warmest thanks to Kim Jong Un who holds up the war veterans as the honorable master who made the great history and laid a foundation of the independent power and bestows all sorts of benevolence on them.

Kim Sung Un, hero of the Republic who is a lecturer of the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum, made a speech addressed to the rising generation.

Saying that Kim Il Sung who is the national liberator and illustrious leader of new Korea meant the country and the pillar of faith for the Korean people and fighters of the People's Army during the days of the war, he stressed that the war veterans brought about July 27 of victory by fighting in the indomitable faith that they could never be deprived of the land and the thankful country liberated by Kim Il Sung and with a unique thought that they have to kill the enemy even though they might die one hundred times.

Saying that the war veterans take pride in handing down the spirit of defending the country to the rising generation as a heritage, he expressed the absolute conviction that the DPRK would certainly win victories thanks to Kim Jong Un, the iron-willed commander.

He stressed that our country would certainly win victory, asking the rising generation to uphold well Kim Jong Un who devotes himself for the people's dignity and happiness and believing, holding and following only our Party despite any trial, bearing in mind the spirit of defending the country and spirit of defending the revolution displayed in the 1950s as their faith.

Rodong Sinmun on Heroic Fighting Spirit of Victors of War

Rodong Sinmun on Monday dedicates an editorial to the 67th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War.

Noting that the heroic fighting spirit displayed by the generation of war victors serves as noble ideological and moral treasure of Juche Korea, the editorial says:

The indomitable spirit of defending the country displayed by the brave soldiers during the war is the great one representing the era that inherited the revolutionary spirit of Paektu, and the banner instilling patriotism into the minds of all the service personnel and people and encouraging them to perform heroic feats.

The generation of war victors is the true fighters who devotedly defended the leader as they showed in practice that the guidance of the leader should be upheld with loyalty in order to defend and glorify the dignity and honor of the country.

They are also indomitable fighters who proved the truth that no one in the world can overpower the people full of trust in and love of their own things.

And they are the heroes who taught that the people with strong mental power can work miracles.

The Korean people are the revolutionary optimists strong in faith who fought a life-and-death battle against formidable enemies with the conviction that they could surely win a victory in the war as they were led by President Kim Il Sung, whenever the situation turned extremely unfavorable during the war.

Brave soldiers of the People's Army blocked the enemy's pillboxes with their breasts and destroyed the enemy's planes and tanks in the spirit of becoming a human bullet. The Korean people produced and supplied weapons and ammunition by turning machine belts with hands and devoted themselves to increased grain production, wartime transport and assistance to the front, despite fierce bombing by enemies. Such spirit evoked the world admiration.

The enemies were stunned by the death-defying spirit the soldiers of the People's Army displayed to destroy the heavy cruiser "Baltimore" with only four torpedo boats, defend with only four artillery pieces an island for three days from the attack of fifty thousands-strong enemy and shoot down enemy jet planes with conventional planes.

The DPRK will always demonstrate its dignity as a country of miracles as the fighting spirit of the heroic war victors adds enthusiasm to the hearts of the rising generations.

Rodong Sinmun Calls for Overcoming Present Crisis in Anti-Epidemic Work

Rodong Sinmun in an editorial on Monday says that the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) convened an emergency enlarged meeting as regards the dangerous situation in Kaesong City that may lead to a deadly and destructive disaster.

The editorial notes that it is the steadfast principle the WPK maintains in the anti-epidemic campaign not to allow any slightest discontinuity and uncertain thing in protecting the life of the people and to take strict measures to that end.

It goes on:

All Party and working people's organizations, power organs, public security and state security institutions, anti-epidemic and public health institutions, officials and the working people should display the unity of voluntary action in which all the people move as one under the monolithic guidance of the Party and the state by correctly implementing the directions and assignments of the Party Central Committee with high responsibility, loyalty and devotion.

Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un Confers "Paektusan" Commemorative Pistols on Leading Commanding Officers of DPRK Armed Forces  [July 27 Juche 109 (2020) KCNA]

Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea, chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and supreme commander of the armed forces of the DPRK, conferred "Paektusan" commemorative pistols on leading commanding officers of the armed forces of the DPRK on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War.

A grand conferring ceremony took place at the building of the headquarters of the Party Central Committee on Sunday afternoon.

The Supreme Leader came to the venue of the ceremony.

All the participants made a salute of best wishes to the Supreme Leader who is opening up the great heyday of building the revolutionary army of the Party with his gifted military wisdom, outstanding military idea, superb strategy and refined commanding art.
