I do not post photos to be pretty to others. I do it for me. My brother once told me he saw me healing through my selfies, as he laughed at me because I was always taking them. I never thought about it much, but it was healing. I had been told all my life, by mostly men, but some women, to tone it down. People are going to laugh at you. You have ugly hair. You’re fat. Cover up. You talk too much. You’re not worth listening to. No one likes being around you. I heard every one of their words and believed them. I let them eat away at me for years. It caused a lot of pain, but it also caused a lot of growth and for me to know my worth and love myself for who I am. I am so very thankful for me and the dedication I’ve had to wipe this shit off of me. It’s not completely gone. I’m still letting go, but it’s a lot easier now. As time goes by, you give it a good cry and you’re good. Well, sometimes. I’m just saying, things get better. It may take you doing some stupid shit like taking some selfies and feeling like a beautiful goddess for a moment, but do it. Don’t care what others think. Do you. Be you. Be fucking brave.
