↳ A 7 day installment in which during a holiday break, you vacation with the dreamies at Chenle's parent's beach mansion. You arrive as a group of friends, but a week spent living in the same house can arouse hidden feelings with one particular boy -- one who seems to reciprocate these feelings in the same manner. This is a classic story of a love between two people that is obvious to others, yet not so much to them. It only takes living within the same walls for seven days for the usual teasing and flirty banter to regroup as real feelings, and during your time stuck in the same house, you and Jaemin must acknowledge and face them in this new vulnerable light.

summary: Time, doubt, patience, arguments; combining all that, you've reached your limit and that led to you making a heartbreaking decision. After a year, something brought you two back together and Sangyeon wouldn't let that opportunity pass any longer.
a/n: this is my first tbz fic, so please look out for more updates that'll bring you to a 'rollercoaster of emotions' because 'thrill ride' you know.
══ஓ๑♡๑ஓ══
𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁
Time. The lack of time was what created a boundary between you two, barely seeing each other on weekdays. He's always working overtime at the office, and you're always doing paperwork for at least 300 students or more. The only times you get to see each other are in the mornings when he drives you to work, after work, and on the weekends.
Here's the thing: even if you two see each other during those times, at least one of you is busy with work. You don't even have time to think about what the other is doing. Both of your schedules just don't seem to cooperate, to the point that it's been months since you last had a date with him. Was it six months ago? Maybe so.
Doubt. The less time you spend with each other, the more doubt grows. Doubt his loyalty, doubt your loyalty, doubt your relationship, doubt the connection. Are you really dating him? Are you really his girlfriend? When was the last time you two kissed?
Patience. Both of you knew the consequences when you first started dating, so you promised to be patient with each other to make this work. It started out great, but it soon went through your head. Just like that, 5 years had passed and nothing changed.
Arguments. They say every relationship isn't perfect. They say arguments make up a healthy relationship. That's stupid to say the least. Patience was no longer present, and arguments became frequent. Even your friends were concerned for the two of you.
Combining all that, you've now reached your limit.
It was a Saturday, a holiday even, which meant both of you had the day-off. It was the perfect day to get back the time you lost with him, but that wasn't the case. Sadly, it wasn't. Sangyeon finally planned to take you out on a date today. After months of nonstop work, he wanted to take you to a newly opened restaurant a few blocks away from the apartment building.
You see, it was supposed to be a great day for you and him, but you were so blinded by determination that you didn't consider his feelings at the moment. All you could think of was "work, work harder, be promoted". You wanted to be promoted so badly because being promoted means a higher income, and a higher income means a more stable life with your lover. It was all for him, your future with him. But for some reason, you couldn't tell him that.
"Can you really not leave your work, even for just a day?" Sangyeon asked again, growing impatient as seconds passed by.
You sighed deeply, not even sparing him a glance. "Sangyeon, please. I told you I have to get this done in a week and I still have so many papers to check." Stacks of papers were piled up around your table, barely leaving space for you to write on.
You heard Sangyeon let out a frustrated groan, with pursed lips, clenched jaw, and hands resting on his hips. He didn't know what to do anymore. He didn't want to force you any longer. Seeing you checking papers to no end—and even with the speed you were going with, there were still less than half that were finished—you really can't be bothered.
So, he decided to leave your shared apartment.
The ring box inside his pocket was now forgotten.
-
"How many times do I have to explain to you that he was just a friend of mine? Can't a friend ask me for help without any hidden intentions?"
Here you stand in front of Sangyeon, trying to explain to him how he misunderstood the events from earlier. Kevin Moon, your childhood friend, had asked to meet up with you at a nearby café after you clocked out of work. Your boyfriend wasn't aware of this because you had forgotten to inform him about it, and it just so happened that he decided to pick you up from the school you worked at, since he had an early leave that day.
Call it bad timing, but as soon as he arrived at the place, you were already heading your way towards Kevin, who was waving at you from a distance. Sangyeon caught the way your face brightened up immediately when you ran towards your friend, the smile you hadn't given him since your last date.
How could he not overthink this whole thing when he just saw his girlfriend hanging out with someone he was a stranger to with the brightest smile he had seen on her for a while and without any notice or message at all? Of course, he would think of the worst scenarios, which he hoped wasn't the case. He believed that you could never cheat on him, though he couldn't help but think that maybe someone else had made you happier when he couldn't give you the time and affection you needed.
"Well, how can I not be worried when there was not one message from you saying that you were meeting with someone I don't know? When I had an early leave, you went and ate dinner with your friend instead of your boyfriend of almost 6 years, who's trying his best to make up for the lost time. Tell me, should I not be angry over this?" His eyes were burning with fire.
His words were answered with silence, and Sangyeon tsked disappointingly. "Is this who we are? Is this all we're ever going to be? We argue more than we kiss. Have you ever thought of that?"
"Sangyeon-"
"Do you even think of me?"
"Sangyeon!" You raised your voice at him.
You've had enough of this talk; it just never ends. Maybe it was the spur of the moment, maybe it was the stress overload, maybe you two needed space for now. All you wanted was to end this ongoing mess once and for all.
"I don't think explaining myself is going to change anything, so let's just... end this." You turned to the side to avoid his surprised eyes.
Sangyeon froze in place. Those five years' worth of memories together with you disappeared in just the blink of an eye. He had no idea how easy those words left your lips, but it definitely broke his heart into a million pieces. He wondered what he did wrong for you to even think about breaking up with him and, hell, deciding on it.
"Just like that?" Sangyeon softly asked, hurt evident in his voice. "We're not even going to try to fix this?"
"I'm tired, Sangyeon. I still have work to finish, so let's talk about this next time."
You tried to walk past him towards your shared bedroom, but he got a hold of your wrist and stopped you in your tracks. He pulled you back to face him, and you were met with his gaze, which was filled with anger, betrayal, sadness, and pain.
"Not answering my questions and breaking up with me afterwards, yet you still expect a 'next time'?" Sangyeon admired your beauty, carefully carressing your right cheek with his hand, and you involuntarily melted in his touch. "You're right, we should probably end this."
Your expression looked unfazed, but you felt your heart breaking at that moment. Both of you never expected this day to actually come, yet here you two were, holding and admiring each other one last time before you finally separate ways after everything you've been through.
"I love you, y/n. I really do, and I hate seeing you hurt like this. So if letting you go is the only way for me to make you happy now, then I'll do it."
Questions were left unanswered, heartbeats left unheard, "sorry"s and "I love you"s left unspoken, tears silently falling down as much as your love story was falling apart.
"I love you too, Sangyeon."
-
Both your efforts didn't go to waste as you two got promoted in your respective positions after a year of broken hearts, dried up tears, working extra hard, and coming back to an empty home. All those arguments just to earn a more stable job, a higher salary, and definitely a worthwhile achievement.
Sangyeon grew accustomed to the quiet apartment he shared with you, as well as the bed, which seemed larger than usual now that he was alone. He would sometimes cook too much food for dinner out of habit when he used to cook for two people, you and him, so he always shared some of his food with his neighbor.
It was the same situation on your end; the only difference was that you were currently living with your best friend. She needed a roommate anyway, since she felt lonely and having someone to spend time with, even for a while, would make her day better.
Friday, 3:00 p.m. Your first grade advisory class excitedly rushed to pack their bags and prepare to leave. As per usual, they would hug you one-by-one to show their appreciation for taking care of them. Lee Hangyul, one of your students, came up to you and gently poked your arm.
"Excuse me, teacher." He asked, his arms behind his back.
You looked down and smiled at him as you fixed your table, "Yes, my dear Hangyul. Need anything?"
"Can I stay here with you for a while? My uncle is picking me up later."
"Oh, sure. Take a seat and entertain yourself." You replied.
Minutes had passed, and you were almost done with your work. You heard Hangyul's excited giggles as he ran towards the person who stood outside your classroom, though you didn't see who it was.
"Thank you for today, teacher. See you tomorrow!"
Without looking back at him, you replied, "Alright, get home safely."
"You too, teacher!" As soon as his voice faded in the distance, a smile grew on your face.
You've always loved kids. You used to imagine what it was like to have a family with Sangyeon, but the reality you were currently living in was far from that.
-
It's been two weeks since Hangyul has been staying late in your classroom to wait for his uncle to fetch him. Fortunately, you didn't have much work to do today. For the time being, you decided to accompany him so that he wouldn't feel lonely.
Hangyul drew what seemed like a family picture—a mom, a dad, and a child—with the words "Together Forever" above it. You unknowingly smiled at the innocent drawing when your mind suddenly pictured you and Sangyeon with a child, similar to the picture. Quickly, you shook your head and got back to reality.
"May I ask where your parents are, Hangyul? There's a parent-teacher meeting this Saturday."
"Uncle said that my parents went to another country for work, so he would go instead of them."
A few minutes later, someone knocked on the door, and both you and Hangyul turned to the direction of the sound.
"Oh, my uncle's here." He quickly got up from his chair and hugged you goodbye.
He still had his arms around you when the man slowly entered the room, and as soon as your gazes met, you froze in place. Those eyes... no, your eyes might be deceiving you right now.
"Uh...hi?" The man sounded unsure, "Sorry if I disturbed anything. I'll be taking Hangyul home now."
His familiar voice made your heart race, just like every other time you've been with him in the past. You only moved when Hangyul removed himself from you and ran towards his uncle.
"Teacher, this is my uncle Sangyeon. Uncle, this is my teacher. Her name is y/n..."Hangyul trailed off, trying to remember your surname.
"y/n l/n, yes. I know who she is, Hangyul." Sangyeon replied, smiling down at his nephew.
"That's nice. I hope you two will become good friends." Hangyul pulled Sangyeon closer to you by the hand and gestured for him to shake hands with you.
Well, it was quite awkward to be standing face-to-face with your ex after a year of not seeing each other. Nevertheless, he still offered his hand for you to shake, which you accepted for his nephew's sake. The way you instantly melted in his touch, you definitely missed him, but you couldn't do anything about it. Once he pulled away, he cleared his throat and held his nephew's hand, the same hand he used to shake yours.
"I guess we'll get going now. Please get home safely." Sangyeon bid you goodbye, as did Hangyul, and the two walked out of your classroom together.
Continuing to stand in place, you couldn't help but think about his lingering gaze on you.
-
"Please, come in." You called over to the next person after your meeting with the previous parent.
Standing up straight, you greeted the man with a smile. "Good morning, Mr. Lee. Please, take a seat." Both of you proceeded to sit across from each other with your desk separating your bodies.
While you went through some folders to look for a certain student's exam papers, the man found himself staring at your face, just like in the good old days. His lips slowly curled into a small smile, but he covered it with a forged cough when you looked back up at him.
"Guardian of Lee Hangyul, correct?" Sangyeon nodded as you looked over the papers on your desk. "He's one smart kid, honestly. He's been getting good grades, and I wonder if his parents taught him well or if he's just naturally intelligent."
Sangyeon laughed quietly, remembering how he was the one who tutored his nephew whenever he needed help, and how he used one of the teaching techniques you had told him about before, which was effective at least. It was all thanks to you, mostly him, but he'd like to give you credit that his nephew earned such outstanding grades.
He leaned back on the chair and continued to stare at your focused expression, realizing how much you enjoyed your job and how hard you worked in the past. Handling first graders and teaching students from first to third grades lifted a bit of weight off your shoulders after teaching so many high school students last year, and he was relieved that you finally got to have some rest, even for a few minutes.
"Aside from his grades, Hangyul is the sweetest kid in the class. He always shares his food with his classmates, sometimes helps me carry my things even though they're light, and overall, is just loveable. His parents must be proud to have him, because I am proud of him too, as his advisor."
You must've forgotten that you were talking to Sangyeon at that moment. You talked about Hangyul as if his uncle wasn't your ex in that case. You may not have realized it yet, but somehow, people would mistake Hangyul as Sangyeon's son because of their similar personalities, and for you to think that way about Hangyul, Sangyeon felt proud as well. He taught him well, and not to mention, he would ask his nephew about how you were doing in class every time they walked home together. A little concern wouldn't hurt a healing heart, right?
"Thank you for the kind words, y/n. Hangyul learned from his best uncle after all." You caught the way Sangyeon's lips curled upwards, and for some reason, yours mirrored his.
"Well, I acknowledge that." You replied with a small nod, "I think that's all you need to know and if you have no further questions, you may leave now."
Sangyeon stood up from his seat, and you expected him to walk out of the room, but he stayed in place with his hands inside his pockets. "Actually, I do have a question."
"Hmm?"
Sangyeon mustered the courage to ask you a simple question, but he was worried that you would react negatively to it. "I hear you're free after the meeting. Maybe you would want to get lunch together, my treat?"
Before you could even reject the kind offer, your stomach grumbled and you felt embarrassed when he chuckled at the incident.
"I guess you're coming with me then?" He raised an eyebrow in anticipation.
Left with no choice, you scoffed at his question. "Consider yourself lucky, Mr. Lee Sangyeon."
There was an exchange of soft laughter, and it felt like your first date all over again. Honestly, there were no harsh feelings between the two of you. Being friends with him wasn't a problem at all; it was better that way anyway, especially after not seeing each other for a year.
After your meeting with the last parent, you get ready to go out and finally have your lunch break. The hallway was quiet, and you wondered if Sangyeon had waited or decided to leave without you, so you went out of your classroom to check, and you were startled to see him standing right beside the door.
"Geez, Sangyeon. You startled me, I thought you left."
"Why would I leave when I have plans with you?"
You playfully pushed him out of your way and walked past him along the hallways. He followed you from behind until you reached the school gates.
"So, where are you treating me?" You asked, arms crossed towards your chest.
Sangyeon hummed while pretending to think of a restaurant he would take you to, "[your favorite restaurant]?"
As much as you wanted to keep your cool in front of him, you instantly grew excited at the thought of finally going back to your favorite restaurant after months of not being able to go there due to hectic schedules. Your last visit there was for your birthday last year, which you celebrated with some of your friends. You were finally going to visit it again, and with Sangyeon this time.
You nodded in approval, "Can't resist the sound of free food, let's go." You sped up your steps, and from behind, he laughed at how easily you get excited when it comes to something you love.
{30 minutes later}
"Why the sudden treat, by the way?" You took a sip from your drink when you questioned him.
"Well, I heard that you got promoted to a position in the office, and I wanted to congratulate you. You've always wanted to get promoted, right?"
Sangyeon remembered. One of the main reasons you overworked yourself was to earn a spot in the office while teaching at the same time, since it earns higher pay. One of the school's office workers was quitting their job to be a full-time mom, so you took that opportunity while it was there. And here you were, achieving your goals and working on your financial stability.
"Thank you," you gave him a sincere smile, "I really appreciate it."
"You deserve it, y/n." Sangyeon returned the smile, and you felt your heart race at the fact that he acknowledged your hard work. "I should take you out more often."
To say that you weren't looking forward to it would be a complete lie. You were secretly anticipating those upcoming days with him.
-
Just like he promised, he took you out when you both had free schedules. Today was supposed to be one of them, but there was a sudden change of plans on your end. As soon as you finished your work, you immediately informed Sangyeon that you couldn't hang out later because of other plans, and that triggered a familiar memory in him. There he was again, waiting for you outside the school gates and watching as you walked away from him.
Everything felt like a year ago.
Kevin embraced you tightly, a reminder of his appreciation towards you for being in his life. He ruffled your hair, which caused you to punch his chest lightly. He then proceeded to wrap his arm around your shoulder as you two made your way towards his car. Sangyeon tried to stay calm and not let his pent-up emotions get to him. You aren't his anymore, so he doesn't have any reason to get pissed off now. No, he's scared this time.
He had always been your first choice, turning down your friends to spend time with him, until Kevin came into the picture. You turned him down the first time to hang out with your childhood friend, and you did it again the second time. Although you finally informed Sangyeon beforehand that you had other plans, it didn't lessen the possibility of Kevin taking you away from him and losing his chances of making your past relationship work again.
He just has to try harder to win your heart back, to win his lover back.
-
Okay, it wasn't as easy as he thought it would be. Ever since that day you accepted his offer to take you out often, you're suddenly the first person he thinks of every morning and the same person who appears in his dreams. Lately, Sangyeon couldn't accomplish his tasks properly without overthinking the whole situation, and his confidence went down. He tried to convince himself that confronting you about it wouldn't fix your past relationship, nor would it make your current friendship with him last long.
So, he decided to start over.
Even when Hangyul's parents had already come back from their trip, Sangyeon still volunteered to accompany him to school just to see you, and every time he did, he'd bring you a simple treat—your favorite food, your go-to drink, anything—because he knows how stubborn you are when it comes to your work that you wouldn't have time to treat yourself.
He also continued to take you out on those 'friendly dates' and this time, you actually grew closer to him. Is there a secret to winning your heart? Make you laugh, and Sangyeon knew that from the beginning. He remembered the little things and inside jokes that made you laugh so hard you almost forgot how to breathe. It felt like you two were dating all over again, which was the point, and it was working.
It was going great, actually, not until the bad memories flashed in your mind and made you... scared? nervous? confused? For some reason, it made you overthink it, and the more you stressed over it, the more you pushed him away. None of you want the past to repeat, but being distant from him was the way you could clear your mind off of those thoughts for now, especially when you still have lots of work to accomplish.
You probably had no idea how Sangyeon could read you like a book. He knew that you were avoiding him, but that won't stop him because he wants you back. He wouldn't force you, but he knows that you two have a special connection and how the universe always manages to make you two find each other.
You were for him and he was for you.
-
And just as you feared, history repeats itself.
"Don't you feel something between us?" Sangyeon's voice almost broke.
You avoided his eyes, "It's not that."
"Then, what is it?"
"I'm just scared, Sangyeon." You finally looked straight into his worried eyes and said, "What if I don't feel anything for you anymore, would you still stay?"
With no hesitation, he instantly replied. "Of course, I'll stay."
"But, why?"
"I courted you even when you didn't feel anything for me back then, what makes it different now? Why should I give up if I can court you again? Why would I walk away if I could stay? If you don't feel anything for me now, it's okay. I'll do my best to win you back, to win us back, simple as that."
Neither of you lost feelings; they were just on-hold. Sangyeon was willing to start over with you, the woman he loved and wanted to build a future with. He won't let this opportunity pass any longer now that you're in front of him, he cannot afford to lose you again. He held your hands as carefully as he could, afraid that he'd hurt you in any way. All he wanted at the moment was for you to come back home in his arms and complete his life.
"Should we continue where we left off?"
He couldn't believe your words, but you assured him with a warm smile.
-
Four months had passed, and the school year finally ended.
It was a Saturday night, and Sangyeon had brought you to a fancy restaurant with a rooftop, which he had reserved for this special night. You had asked earlier what made this date special compared to your previous dates together, but all he gave you was a teasing smirk, and you didn't ask any further questions after that.
The night went on; the food being served, having a conversation as you two ate dinner, laughing from time to time, admiring the stars in the sky, admiring each other. While you continued to stare up at the stars above you, Sangyeon was nervously fidgeting with the box inside his pocket. Do it before the opportunity passes.
From your peripheral view, you noticed him standing up from his seat, and as soon as you turned to him completely, your heart raced when he proceeded to kneel on one knee. You gasped in shock, covering your mouth in the process. The moment you've been dreaming of, it's finally happening and you know you want to spend the rest of your life with him.
"y/n, I..." Sangyeon was trying to find the right words to tell you, "You know what, I'm saving my words for the big day. I just want to say that I've been wanting to propose to you for years, but I couldn't find the right time, and I think now's the right time for this. So, will you make me the happiest man and marry me?"
"Is that even a question? Of course I will." You pulled him up and embraced him tightly after he slid the ring onto your ring finger, "Thank you for coming back into my life, Sangyeon."
"No, thank you for taking me back after everything."
"Listen, I'll choose you over anyone. The person who I see a future with, it'll always be you."
