So, I was wondering
Does anyone still remember these animes? Like at all?
I remember they used to be pretty damn popular, but now nobody seems to even acknowlage their existence.

After re-reading the first Slayers novel in the new official translation (https://j-novel.club/v/slayers-volume-1), I am yet again impressed by how Hajime Kanzaka, a male author who started writing 30 years ago, managed, through his female protagonist, to nail down, in a single volume, the perfect teenage girl power fantasy:
- Being able to mock male creeps with no shred of fear and being able to appropriately whack them into the ground.
- Not being afraid to be loud-mouthed, chaotic and sarcastic, and not being punished for it.
- Being able to travel the world and being self-sustained and competent in one’s chosen vocation.
- Meeting a handsome travel companion who is friendly, protective, gentle and kind. A travel companion who is not afraid to express his worry, to say that he is sorry when he needs to be, and who is supportive of his partner’s choices and is impressed and not envious of or menaced by her skills.
- Defeating a Dark Lord at 15.

The amount of faith Amelia has in Zelgadis is incredible. He betrayed them for all intents and purposes. Even then, her first thoughts are, “Something’s wrong. He’s in trouble. We have to find him.”
And, then, comforting “big sister” Lina!!! 🥺
I am drowning in these feelings! I have failed to can.
