(( TW: intimate partner violence ))
Jules was born in New York, NY when her mother was in high school. Her mother quickly moved her back to her hometown of Toronto right after she graduated to raise Jules. It was just Jules and her mom for quite sometime, her estranged father only making appearances once every few years. Jules was a bit of a latch key kid. Her mom worked two jobs while she was in middle school and high school to be able to provide for her and Jules. This left Jules to fend for herself when it came to staying on top of her school work and her extracurriculars. And she was vigilant. She went to a small, all girl’s private school where Jules became a star on the debate team and the editor of the school’s literary magazine. She maintained excellent grades in her classes, as well as a couple of advanced placement classes. While Jules wasn’t exactly popular, she was well liked by most of her peers and was even elected student council treasurer her junior year. She had a small group of friends from lit mag and the debate team that she still sees every year at Christmas.
It’s safe to say that Jules didn’t have a lot of free time in high school. But with the little free time she had, she posted stories and One Direction fan fiction on Wattpad. She wrote under the pen name “JL Robins”, a pen name that she still uses to this day. One of her fan fictions became so famous on Tumblr and Wattpad, that the fic was actually published. This was how she paid for her undergrad at the Berlin University of the Arts in Berlin, Germany completely out of pocket. There, she studied Journalism and Creative Writing and obtained her BA.
It was in Berlin were she found herself in an emotionally abusive on-and-off relationship. She doesn’t consider herself of a victim of intimate partner violence, but knows that that experience has changed the way she views herself and relationships. Jules also most certainly grew to resent her father for leaving her and her mother high and dry. She even grew to have a deep resentment and distrust towards men in general, which she knows it problematic and as slowly started working on address her biases. Not every man is her father, though, and some of her best friend ended up being men. Since the relationship, Jules has struggled with social anxiety, depression, and even some minor PTSD. Her abuser filled her with ideas that no one will ever love her again, which was one of the reasons that she stayed in the relationship for so long. After university, Jules fled to Kingsboro and moved in with her estranged half-sister. Not long after her move to New York, she started working on her MFA at NYU. She currently works at Pen & Paper Press as a writer and as a journalist for the Kingsboro News.

x-heartbreaker:
zara looks and feels like a walking zombie these days. sleep hasn’t been coming easy so she’s been surviving mostly on cigarettes and caffeine. while on a run for the latter, she picks up a coffee and then decides to wander around rather than just going back to her apartment. she only catches the end of what she hears jules saying in the alley, and she almost passes by, but takes a few steps back to check out what’s going on. “do i even want to know what you just tossed in that dumpster….?”
Jules had just now realized that she probably sounded like a mental case; talking to herself the way she was. Embarrassing. She tried to play it cool though, even though she was a little startled by the other woman. “Oh...Zara. Hey...yeah, um.” She looked back at the dumpster and sighed. “My plant. He was on his very last leg and I couldn’t save him. I know. I’m the worst plant mom ever.” She laughed at herself before taking notice to Zara’s appearance. “You okay? You look rough. Want a cigarette?” She offered, fishing for her pack in her coat pocket.

Quentin had just recently gotten back from Milan with Aaron, and he already had quite a bit of things going on. He had to move out of his apartment this week, plan a party for Landon, and start at his new job. To anyone else it might have seemed a bit overwhelming, but Q loved to stay busy. He had been sitting around for so long after leaving his job at the Grind, he was about to start going a bit stir crazy. Thank god for his two boyfriends who always seem to keep him occupied. “So.. do you think we should get a DJ for this party, or.. I mean, my band could play. But I wanna party too, so I don’t really know if that’s a great idea. Maybe we could just have the party at Blue or something. You think Landon would be okay with that?” he asked as he looked up from his notebook and over to the person he was sitting across from at the diner. “What do you think? I just want this to be perfect. Especially since it’s a coming out party.. ya know?”
Jules had agreed to meet up with Quentin during her lunch break to help him plan for his friend’s party. She ended up just reading through her notes for her next class and had her wrap until he asked about having a DJ at the party. She shot her head up - she had been so consumed by her notes that she actually started to drown him out. Oops. She got so distracted so easily sometimes. “Blue’s good. What kind of party is it though?” She asked before taking another sip of coffee. “Like coming out of the closet or out after his accident? Those are two vastly different things.” She chuckled. “Either way, I support both. But you’d wanna party with Landon at the party you throw for him. And I wanna take shots with you too.” She admitted with a little giggle. There was a reason everyone in Kingsboro wanted to be friends with Quentin. He really was so easy to get along with and he smile was absolutely contagious.

booknerdaurora:
“What is it with you and killing plants?” Aurora giggled as she stopped in her tracks. The young girl was taking a much needed walk, considering it was pretty sunny out for an early spring day. She hated the winter and being cooped up inside all the time. So, the second that the weather was above freezing, she layered on some comfy work out clothes and got some good ol’ vitamin C. She just so happened to be walking past her ex-girlfriend’s apartment complex while the other was mourning the loss of another pet. The non-living kind, of course.
Jules was surprised to see Aurora out and about, but she wasn’t disappointed in the least. She was right, too. Jules had killed a fair share of plants in her life especially when she first started collecting plants. Aurora had been to a fair share of these plant funerals, so she knew how much this meant to Jules. Maybe she was being over dramatic, but she was extra hard on herself when she continuously failed at something. Growing this type of plant happened to be one of them. “You wanna say any last words?” She offered.

“hey, it’s basically spring now. so, i’d say you’ve done a pretty good job so far! todd just so happened to not make it,” he said, shrugging softly. valentine wasn’t one who would really keep plants around, mainly because he’d really just end up forgetting about them. but, he did have some fake plants around. you know, for the aesthetic. “have you ever tried a succulent? i heard they’re nearly impossible to kill.”
Jules just shook her head and laughed at his comment because she had, in fact, tried succulents plenty of times “I have a ton of them. That was actually one. And believe me, they are a lot easier to kill than you’d think. I’ve killed my fair share of unkillable plants.” She admitted, now just laughing at herself. “Thanks for the vote of confidence though.”

ellie had, of course, attended a lot of jules’ plant funerals and this was no exception. the girl, dressed in appropriate black, stood by her sister solemnly as she delivered todd’s eulogy. “he was a good soul, yeah. brought a great vibe to your apartment, too. gone too soon.” she said, and once the pot was in the dumpster, ellie shrugged and chuckled, acting her fun, casual way again. “come on, let’s get you lunch and then let’s find you another todd.”
Jules couldn’t begin to describe how thankful she was that Ellie indulged her in her plant funerals. She knew it was dumb, but Jules was a treehugger and mourned the loss of every living thing. Silly, but she was an empath. “He did have great fuckin’ vibes.” Jules pushed her sunglasses up her nose. It was one of those rare sunny days in the winter and Jules wanted to get as much sun as possible. “Let’s go to the diner and stop at the co-op on the way back for another one.” She hooked her arm around Ellie and started walking. “We shall call him, Todd the Second.” She suggested.
