EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING
Tumblr media
The influence of digital videos on our everyday culture is undeniable. Online video sharing sites such as YouTube, Vimeo, and Metacafe boast monthly audience numbers in the millions.
With digital videos continuing to gain popularity, it seems only natural that this familiar and widespread platform should extend into the education system.
Students today are using educational videos as a tool for learning everything: from basic skills - like changing a tire - to the latest dance craze. Remarkably, millennials make up 92% of the digital video viewing audience. Abstract topics that once seemed difficult to teach and learn are now more accessible and understandable thanks to the availability of effective educational video platforms for online learning.
Studies have shown that the use of short video clips allows for more efficient processing and memory recall. The visual and auditory nature of videos appeals to a wide audience and allows each user to process information in a way that’s natural to them. In a nutshell, videos are good teachers.
The use of videos in teaching and learning serves to not only benefit students, but also teachers, their affiliated institutions, and the entire school system. A 2015 study conducted by software company Kaltura concluded that 93% of teachers believe that the use of educational videos improves the learning experience. They also serve to break down barriers, such as student and campus location, which were once insurmountable.
As a result, educational institutions are faced with the task of meeting the rising demand for quality learning videos, online course offerings, and campus accessibility. Indeed, many are choosing to create their own educational video learning materials. While this idea may seem daunting, it can be a positive and enjoyable experience if you contract a full-service video production companythat can tailor your videos to your institution’s individual needs.
Tumblr media
Using Videos in Education
The online, asynchronous nature of videos allows them to be shared all across the world and at all hours of the day or night. Educational institutions can gain great autonomy by using videos to reach a broader audience than ever before. They can be used to keep potential, current, and former students involved and engaged
Videos can be used in a variety of ways in the educational setting
Teaching Course Material
Teachers can use videos to deliver course information that can be extremely helpful in opening up class time. Lectures and other introductory information can be viewed before class, which allows for more practice- and skill-related class activities. These videos are accessible at the student’s convenience and can be watched numerous times to assist with coursework and skill mastery
Tumblr media
Benefits of Using Videos in the Classroom
The benefits of using videos in an educational setting are numerous. Their convenience and versatility make them an asset to students, teachers, and educational institutions alike, whether elementary, high school, or higher levels.
Benefits to students:
Videos create a more engaging sensory experience than using print materials alone. Learners actually get to see and hear the concept being taught, and they can process it in the same way they process their everyday interactions.
They provide a go-to resource that can be watched from anywherewith an internet connection. Videos are accessible on a multitude of devices including laptops, tablets, and smartphones. This allows for viewing at the student’s convenience and from wherever they are.
Videos increase knowledge retention, since they can be stopped and replayed as many times as needed. They can also be reviewed long after the initial lesson was taught.
They greatly assist in the learning of all subjects, but particularly those topics that are complex and/or highly visual, such as step-by-step procedures, problem-solving, or science and math formulas.
They increase proficiency in digital literacy and communication, which are important 21st-century skills
Tumblr media
Benefits to teachers:
Videos increase student engagement, which in turn helps boost achievement. If students are interested in the material, they will process and remember it better.
They offer the flexibility to pause, rewind, or skip throughout the video to have class discussions or review particular areas.
They enable teachers to create a flipped classroom or “blended” learning environment. However, videos are also beneficial to teachers who teach in traditional classroom settings.
Digital videos facilitate remote learning opportunities so that teachers can reach students from all over the world.
Hope that this blog about importance of using videos in education will be useful to you in your dailu life and future classroom.

My learning experience
In the beginning, I didn't expect this course to be so difficult. I was always tired on the way home and I was a little disheartened. I was assigned mentally and physically during the first 5 weeks. But at some point, I grew to enjoy the course.
Tumblr media
I learned a lot about education, but also about Mauritian culture.
1: Curriculum class has given me tools to be ready to deal with the world of teaching. In my communication class I was able to write a speech that is something that is definitely going to help me as an artist. In my Bringing technology innovation course, I learned how to make learning fun and exciting. I found several platforms and tools that can help in this time of pandemic. What has made my learning more interesting is all my practical classes. I learned the theory of basketball, which is my favorite game. Learning the basics in sport helped me get better. As I am curious I was as astonished by these new acquaintances.
Tumblr media
2:In place of academic learning, I've also found new friends to make my learning experience better. As I come from Rodrigues Island, I first thought that it would be difficult for me to find friends. But since the first day at the MIE both lecturer and students welcome me with smile. The fact that they enjoy helping others and providing advice helps me feel more comfortable.
To wrap it all. My learning experience was good due to the good atmosphere at Mie, the friendliness of the student and the patience of the lecturer.

Hello, we are all young people, so I know we prefer to learn while having fun. And I know precisely one platform that can help us enjoy ourselves when studying or teaching.
Tumblr media
ClassDojo is a school communication platform that teachers, students, and families use every day to build close-knit communities by sharing what's being learned in the classroom home through photos, videos, and messages.
ClassDojo's Mission
Tumblr media
To bring communities together, and give their kids learning experiences they love.
How to set-up class Dojo?
Class Dojo is easy to set-up and use. Simply create an account using your school email and you are ready to go. Once you are into Dojo, you can choose icons for each class and begin setting up your classes. The program automatically assigns fun avatars for each student, but you can change them. Next, you can use the pre-set positive and negative behaviors or personalize them. Very quick and easy!
Dojo's usefulness
One of the great things about Dojo is that it allows you to award points to individual students or the entire class. If all students come in and are working on their bell ringer, I have my student Dojo assistant award the entire class a point for being on task. This lets them know I have recognized they are following class procedures. When you award a point, Dojo makes a happy sound and gets the student’s attention. If several students are off task, I do not award the entire class a point. You would be surprised how this one little point has students encouraging each other to come in and get started on their assignment
Another great thing about Dojo is that parents can have insight into their child’s behavior during the day. All I have to do is input parent emails into Dojo, print out an access code, and they can  see all their child’s information. On Fridays, Dojo can be set up to automatically send an email with all the positive and negative points received for the week. Additionally, parents can login whenever they want to check the progress.
Tumblr media
ClassDojo is another great tool to add to your toolbox. I hope you will use this amusing and helpful tool.

One of the most interesting things I found in my Bringing technological innovation classroom is: SOCIAL BOOKMARKING
Tumblr media
Social bookmarking is the process of tagging a website page with a browser-based tool so that you can easily visit it again later. Instead of saving social media posts to your browser bookmarks, you can use different platforms’ features to bookmark posts. Because the bookmarks are online, you’ll be able to access them anywhere, from any device with an internet connection.
Tumblr media
How does social bookmarking work?
In social bookmarking sites, discussion topics are organized into specific rooms or threads where users follow content that’s interesting to them. When following a piece of content, you’ll receive notifications to your personal feed when new information appears.
Links in social bookmarking sites are the starting point for discussion and knowledge-sharing.
Tumblr media
Some popular social networking tools include:
Pinterest
Reddit
Digg
There are many social Bookmarking sites but in my class,i learned about Diigo
Tumblr media
Diigo is a free social bookmarking, research, and knowledge sharing tool created to mimic the
ease of taking notes while providing a network for sharing and discovering information.

Tumblr media
What Does Diigo Do?
Diigo allows you to take personal notes and highlight text information on web pages just as you would on a piece of paper.  You can then bookmark and save this information for further review, while adding tags to keep everything organized.  In bookmarking this information, you can also choose to share with colleagues and friends to allow them to access the web page, view your notes and highlights, and add their own annotations. All of this information is also saved online and can be accessed by any computer or browser, including cell phones with browsing capabilities.
How is Diigo used in the classroom?
Tumblr media
Students can add comments on their peers notes, initiate discussion, edit sticky notes and share with others. They can also use Diigo screenshot tool to take screenshots and annotate them with arrows and boxes to use in a tutorial.
Tumblr media
Here are just a few of the possibilities with Diigo:
Save important websites and access them on any computer.
Categorize websites by titles, notes, keyword tags, lists and groups.
Search through bookmarks to quickly find desired information.
Save a screenshot of a website and see how it has changed over time.
Annotate websites with highlighting or virtual "sticky notes."
View any annotations made by others on any website visited.
Share websites with groups or the entire Diigo social network.
Comment on the bookmarks of others or solicit comments to your shared bookmarks
Tumblr media
I'm sure this blog will be very helpful to everyone. I trust that you will use this valuable knowledge well.

Week 5 and 6 (Kahoot and quizziz)
In my (Bringing technological innovative) class in week 5 and 6 i have been introduced to educational technologies tools Kahoot,Quiziz. As a future teacher this will be helpful to me but most importantly this will be helpful in this lockdown period. These tools will facilitate both teachers and students work.I hope that you will make use of these tools, this is the main objective of this blog
What is “Kahoot!”?
Tumblr media
Kahoot! is a game-based learning and trivia platform. What makes Kahoot! so great is that it has uses beyond the classroom; it can be used in offices and social settings, making it a hit for all ages. This means that some parents may be familiar with Kahoot! as well. Kahoot! can be used from any device (through the website or the app), making learning fun and inclusive in all contexts for all ages. Teachers can create multiple choice games related to class content that students can play as a class by entering the game code on their app or device. Kahoot! offers a multitude of other forms of games related to class content that can make learning fun.
Why Use “Kahoot!”?
Tumblr media
Kahoot! offers many benefits in the classroom. Because of its flexibility, Kahoot! can be used in various subjects — even physical education. Kahoot! is a great way to keep students engaged because it focuses on social learning and makes it fun. It’s also simple to use because it works on any device and players don’t have to create an account. Most importantly, it’s free for teachers and students.
If you’re looking for a new way to reinforce class content or keep your students engaged, Kahoot! is the solution you’re looking for. Using Kahoot! will make your students enjoy coming to class and is sure to boost the morale during those trying times of the semester, such as exam prep. Whenever students use educational technology, it’s important to teach and emphasize digital citizenship. Monitoring software like LearnSafe re-enforces these lessons and assures a safe learning environment.
What is Quizizz?
How is it useful?
Tumblr media
Quizizz allows you to conduct student-paced formative assessments in a fun and engaging way for students of all ages.
Student-paced: Questions appear on each student's screen, so they can answer questions at their own pace, and review their answers at the end.
BYOD: Can be played by students using any kind of device with a browser, including PCs, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
Thousands of public quizzes: Amazing teachers around the world create thousands of great questions on Quizizz every day! This community effort generates great content that everyone can use.
Quiz Editor: The Quizizz editor is the most awesome quiz editor in the world!
Quiz Customization: Teachers have multiple options to customize their quiz session to toggle the level of competition, speed, and other factors.
Tumblr media
Quizizz uses the same technique as kahoot, but it still has slight variances. Kahoot is only used for real-time formative evaluation, testing, questionnaires, and discussions in the classroom. Quizizz lists two different application modes. One is to form a formative evaluation in real-time in the classroom, and the other is to be arranged by the teacher to the student as an extracurricular assignment.
Quizizz can be used in any teaching and learning areas, a teacher can use Quizizz to link students' engagement of study in every class.

My first love was Basketball
Tumblr media
I started playing basketball because of my original favorite player, Michael Jordan. He was a tall, unstoppable guy. One who was able to do the things that the smaller players did.
So one day, when I was 11-years old, I decided to go outside to the playground of my village  and take a shot. The basket was originally for my older brother, so this was my first time ever shooting a basketball. I will never forget that the first shot I ever took was a perfect, nothing but net. Swish. It felt amazing, and I’ve been in love with this sport ever since.
When I play basketball, I feel great, even though I’m not the best of players. When I do good things on the court, I know it’s because I can make up for my lack of athleticism with being a student of the game. As I said in the description of my blog, it’s the one place on earth where I am in my element. I don’t worry about school, or family, or problems. I think about what is in front of me, and how I can get the basketball in the hoop.
My obsession with basketball is strange for some people to figure out.
As I’ve gotten older, I decided to focus on technical parts of this sports, and reading about basketball fills me with a sense of enjoyment. It is because of my love for this sport that i decided to come at the mie to follow the physical education course
