julia: it's completely fine, lee. really.

julia: at first i jumped at the chance to investigate

julia: thought it might take my mind off my brush with dea|[crossed out]

julia: it's hard because I want answers, but not everyone wants 'em.

his back tensed slightly. the fair. what happened at the fair? he’d really like an answer to that himself. “like uh- what i saw or… ” what was he supposed to say? that he watched bez die and carried his body into his truck and then into his house only for the kid to end up… whatever the hell he was now? that this was not the first weird shit dean had seen in this town? no, none of that was going to go over well.

almost as soon as his body language changed, julia realized maybe she should’ve been gentler about asking.  what had happened was so bizarre and tragic, and there were still so many unknown factors.  frankly, she was still coping with the fact that she very well could’ve been left for dead. “i’m sure there are other reporters who’re more desperate for the credit. I just...am hoping to get a few opinions, set the record straight.  because it’s a scary time for all of us.”  she worked hard to keep her voice even, setting her pencil down and wringing her hands nervously. “if you’d rather we talk about something else, if you’re not comfortable...it’s fine with me.”

“so i was reading this article in the crier and-” nova opened the paper to reveal a huge missing piece. “apparently my cat decided to eat part of the page. i can only assume it had a picture of an animal on it. or maybe food. either way, do you have another copy?” 

"maybe it was a tunafish ad. i mean, if I was a cat, that’s what  I’d go after.”  julia scratched at a nearly unreachable spot on the back of her neck with a pencil, surveying the space left by nova’s cat. “of course, yeah, no worries. y’want more than one?"

“here y’go!” julia set down the bag of six glazed donuts she’d grabbed for lee.  it was just after her interview with dean, and she was definitely feeling a mix of emotions--too much to process, especially when she knew lee and dean had some sort of history.  so, she’d rely on lee to take her mind off it with art. “your coffee’s still hot--I almost burned my nail polish off, I’m pretty sure.  we can talk for a bit, unless you wanna get straight to the dart throwin, balloon poppin’, paint explodin’ mess.  are you sure this is a good space for it?”  she tilted her head curiously at her friend.

“an interview that lets me to eat at the same time is already doin’ better than usual,” he grinned, eating some of his bacon. “don’t worry, i have plenty of time. but we can still do breakfast again. and don’t worry about payin’-” he leaned in closer toward her. “they don’t let me pay for anythin’. i think the mayor set up a runnin’ tab for me throughout the whole town. that or i’m just extremely attractive.” he leaned back again. “maybe both, i dunno,” he winked.   

“oh!” julia blinked in surprised, propping her chin in her hand. the way dean so easily suggested doin’ breakfast again made her heart leap, which she wasn’t sure she liked or hated at this point. no, julia, you gotta stay cool. “that sounds nice.  i mean, free food whenever you want.  i definitely wouldn’t get tired of that.”  she ran her tongue across her lower lip, cheeks flushing as she made eye contact with dean.  “y’don’t need me to tell you you’re handsome, though I’m certain it’s nice to hear.  much as I wish we were doing a full profile on you, I’d like to get your take on what happened the night of the fair, if that’s okay?”

“hi! thanks for meeting me here.”  julia smiled politely up at dean. she had to remind herself for the millionth time to be freakin’ professional --her boss was counting on her, so it didn’t matter how handsome dean hollis was. she had to stick to the facts. fact one: their meeting place was at the falls diner, where...inevitably, someone would come up to them and fawn all over dean (much like she was internally at the moment, but that was irrelevant).  “i’ll try not to take up too much of your time, and if I do, then your next breakfast is on me.  deal?”

( cierra ramirez, human, she/her & cisfemale ) is that ( out here on my own ) by ( irene cara ) playing? ( julia mendez ) must be nearby!  heard folks say the ( twenty three ) year old ( journalist ) was at the thanksgiving fair, ( eating a candy apple ) when chaos ensued. during the glitch, ( she barely escaped getting decapitated ).

here we have ur basic average girl (did u start singing the kim possible theme song? yes? good.)

y’know, its fine, she doesn’t have any superpowers. her writing speaks for her most of the time, and she’s not like, the Worst person to be around, except if you’re in the middle of a whole crisis, she’ll most likely have reporter brain instead of human being who cares about people’s feelings brain on. super self aware.  always has a notepad and pencil with her.

despite the fact that she’s socially out-of-tune sometimes, she can actually be a really good friend.  she remembers the smallest things.  she won’t admit it out loud, but she loves human contact and she’s a big ol’ softie.  misses her parents like hell but doesn’t really talk about them bc she’s That hyperfocused on other things. 

her only major connection to the glitch was that she just BARELY escaped getting hacked.  to this day she still has nightmares about it but instead of dealing with it, she throws herself into other people’s problems

she moved out of her parent’s house two years because she felt suffocated and now she’s just like, not dealing with the thing that happened to her

it’s escapism, i guess?? honestly, she’d love a roommate tho, because as thick-skinned as she’d like to pretend she is, she gets lonely.

on average she maybe gets like, sixteen hours of sleep a week, but she’s working on increasing that number.  can be found at the falls diner sucking down heckin’ coffee when she’s not workin’ at the town crier.

she’ll be hella appreciative if you bring her french toast and strawberries that’s all i’m saying.

i don’t remember if i have any set connections for her mostly bc i’m as scattered as she is sometimes so i’m down for anything but also consider: the sugar to her spice, the person who carries her home when she’s passed out at work or at the diner, hell even at the library. i’m a HUGE sucker for the opposites attract trope.

this intro is worse than casper’s and a literal ice cube just crashed in the freezer so i’m spooked lmao as always, if you wanna get to know this smol truffle, hmu! <3
