They say you shouldn’t meet stars you admire from afar in case they disappoint you. I’m so lucky I got to meet Olivia Newton John who was as lovely in person as she was supremely talented. I’m with her here at the gala opening party for Los Angeles magazine’s Green Home environmental design home. Mom, I wish I could hug you and talk to you even one more time. You loved me, set an example for me, worked way too many jobs (you did work-from-home way before it became a real concept), and still found time to be a Girl Scout leader and sew custom Barbie clothes for me. Our home was always open to my friends. I’ve said this before, but “Fasesky’s Kitchen” was a real thing. When I was little, I always thought I wanted parents who were a stay-at-home mom and a dad who worked a 9-to-5 in an office but I got something so much better: a mom who showed me how to be a modern and independent woman and a dad who not only was an amazing chef but encouraged all my crazy ideas and didn’t flinch (well, at least to me) when I moved across the country. If I never told you enough while you were here on this earth how much I loved and respected you, I hope I live up to your legacy of kindness and love today and every day. I love you, Mom.
