WHAT COULD’VE BEEN... 11 years after “The Diamond of the Day” (24.12.2012) Merlin returns (in/sp.)

I think Arthur knew, at the end. That he loved Merlin. I think he spent years denying it, to himself more than anyone. And I think he never accepted it because he knew Merlin better than anyone even without the magic. He knew there was something missing. And how can you love someone like that when you know there’s a piece of them you haven’t figured out HOW to love?

And then he found out Merlin was a sorcerer. And I think it clicked in his head, then, that “oh. That was it. That was the piece that was missing, and I do love you. I love you anyway.” And I think he thought about saying it, right then, but knew he was going to die and didn’t want to do that to Merlin. So instead, he said “hold me” and swore to whatever heavens would listen that he’d find a way to tell him someday.

Reasons Why by Oriberry Short but oh so sweet. It was life changing reading this. I love it. So good, so fucking good.

Strangled by the Red String of Fate by idlestories Really nice cheeky bit of fun soulmate shenanigans which I absolutely adored. The banter is so good, it soothes my fucking soul. Honestly, just the balm I need every time I remember how the show actually ended.

I Could Recognise Him by Touch Alone by queerofthedagger This author has my heart, always. But this one hits me the hardest somehow. Arthur is so... open in this. There is a sort of vulnerability to him that I wish I could write. But yes. Good shit. Good fucking shit.

Sticks and Stones by schweet_heart Once again, an author whose Merthur fics do not miss. But this one has art, and a Merlin who is oh so fretful over his King who he may or may not be besotted with. It's a great read.

I also love the heart break prince which is her Harry Potter star wars mashup like truly just some great stuff

go I know not whither and fetch I know not what by voicedimplosives like also another uber famous one bc if you're a reylo then you undoubtedly know the significance of the red Adidas track suit and THE YEAR IS 1994 THE IRON CURTAIN HAS COME DOWN

a manner of virtue by neonheartbeat one of my most favorite a/b/o's and like a Tarzan mashup but also this author is wonderful and spectacular and has such immense range I'd check everything of theirs out

the island effect by anonymous - dark fic mind the tags. unfinished. one of the greatest things I've ever read just like idk the exploration of desire/ gender politics/ dystopia, a must read even though the last two chapters were never posted

can't turn off what turns me on by audreyii_fic another very fun very steamy a/b/o if that's your thing. rey and ben lend themselves so well to the whole a/b/o trope in a way that I've not found many other ships do as well
