We're stunned by this beautifully bound anthology of Persian poetry, created in the 16th century!
Attributed to present-day Turkey or Iran, the manuscript features ornate gold detailing and pages painted with watercolor and ink. It contains poetry by Amir Shahi of Sabzavar (Iranian, born in Sabzavar–died 1453), Maulana Nur al-Din `Abd al-Rahman Jami (Iranian, born 1414 in Jam–died 1492 in Herat), and Nasir Khusrau (Iranian, born 1003–died circa 1066).
The pages are composed using qita’i, a découpage technique in which letters are cut from colored paper and carefully arranged on contrasting folios.
The full anthology is part of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's open access collection and available to view on JSTOR.

🎶🎉 Summerfest 2025 🎉🎶
The first week of Summerfest 2025 is underway, and we’re turning up the volume in Special Collections! 🎶
To celebrate the world's largest music festival right here in Milwaukee, we're highlighting a book that documents the rich cultural history of this iconic event. Summerfest: Cooler by the Lake: 40 Years of Music and Memories by Dave Tianen, a music critic for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Edited by Tina Maples and filled with stunning photographs from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Milwaukee World Festival Inc., this work captures four decades of unforgettable performances, hometown pride, and lakeside legends. Published in 2007, to commemorate the festival's 40th anniversary, this volume offers a detailed chronicle of Summerfest's evolution from its founding in 1968 to its emergence as one of the largest and most diverse music festivals in the world.
From Pearl Jam to A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, local bands to international headliners, Summerfest has been bringing the soundtrack of summer to life since 1968! 📸🎸🌊

thinking about when i got heat exhaustion at the House on the Rock and the experience was so overwhelming that i had a panic attack and thought i was hearing ghosts and genuinely fully believed i was going to die
which sounds like an overreaction, unless you've ever been to house on the rock and then you probably understand exactly what i'm saying.

Sometimes I wonder how much fanfic of classical/iconic literature exists because of school projects. Just floating out there. In a drive somewhere. Not to mention that nothing is more unhinged than bored middle/highschoolers being forced to liven up books they might not care about. For every deranged ao3 crossover fic there is an infinitely more deranged crackfic written for the great gatsby or antigone or to kill a mockingbird or whatever by a bored highschooler and his friends for 10th grade English. I wanna read it

Happy summer solstice, Northern Hemisphere!
The summer solstice – the beginning of astronomical summer – falls on June 20, 2025 (June 21 UTC). It’s the longest day of the year and marks the change of seasons. For our friends in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the shortest day of the year and the beginning of winter.
Earth orbits at an angle, so half the year, the Northern Hemisphere is tilted toward the Sun — this is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, and winter in the Southern Hemisphere. The other half of the year, the Northern Hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun, creating winter in the north and summer in the south. Solstices happen twice per year, at the points in Earth’s orbit where this tilt is most pronounced.
How do you plan on spending the longest (or shortest) day of the year? 😎
