POTS magic masterpost
(Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome)
A collection of tips and suggestions from and for magic practitioners who have POTS!
*To be used in addition to proper medical care, medication and mundane efforts, not as a sole alternative.*
Salt + electrolytes:
As you take salt pills, say a spell or blessing.
Incorporate salt into general health, wellness, and energy spells.
Draw sigils on your salt shakers.
“I drink a lot of electrolytes, and Pedialyte to help with orthostatic issues, and I will cast over my drink much the same as I do for tea, coffee, water, etc. So any spellwork for drinks could easily apply to one's electrolytes or water.” (x)
Tips and tricks:
Ask for specific strength to your blood vessels and brain.
Draw sigils on your medication bottles and mobility devices.
Carry around a resilience sigil or a sigil to keep your heart rate and blood pressure at a more average level.
Do little enchantments on your compression stockings and put them on a windowsill to charge with solar energy.
“Keeping all of my ingredients in easy to reach spots has also been a big help, specifically places that are low to the ground and don't require me to do much standing or walking around.” (x)
“When using counter maneuvers for POTS, visualize yourself being grounded & connected to the earth.” (x)
“I find time in nature also tends to ground me better, which can help if stress is a trigger for POTS.” (x)
“Pray to Apollon and Artemis for help at the start and end of the day. Again, this doesn't replace medical treatment, but it can certainly offer a lot of comfort, especially in the middle of a flare-up. For me, stress is a major trigger of my POTS, and I find that praying to my deities makes me calm down much faster, thereby allowing the flare-up to be a bit shorter.” (x)
Correspondences:
“Keeping a lot of bloodstone and rose quartz around has been helpful to me.” (x)
“As far as wandwork correspondences go, I like to use my mangrove wand for POTS-related work, bc of its unique adaptations to a salty environment. (Mangrove has a lot of health correspondences for me, but POTS and menstruation related issues are the two biggest.) Aspen, bloodwood, ebony, lignum vitae, redheart, and willow also have various health-related meanings for me, so I sometimes use those too.” (x)
Sigils:
Balance my blood pressure
My blood pressure is a healthy level
My heart rate stays average
Ease my dizziness
Ease my lightheadedness
I remain conscious
People respect my diagnosis

Witchy Self-Care
*pulls out draft from over a year ago* ENJOY
Hi! this is a list of witchy self-care things you can do. Most of these are pretty basic on account that i wrote this ages ago but they definitely still work. Anyways, I hope these help :)
Do the dishes and dedicate it to your house spirit (if you have one) or a deity (if you're religious)
sweep/mop your floor in the shape of sigils
add rosemary (or rosemary water/essential oils) to the water you mop with to set an intention of cleansing
taking ritual a bath/shower
cleansing your energy. it's so basic but I forget more than i'd like to admit
dedicating time to yourself. it's just as important as dedicating time to your deities/other spirits
light shadow work or going to therapy. bettering your mental health also betters your spiritual.
go outside and ground yourself
take a nap (less witchy, more, I love naps. rest is important)
work out/stretch and dedicate it to an entity
do some gratitude
take 5 minutes to just sit and turn off your devices. you can use this time for anything, just take a second to get off screens and connect with the world around you
meditate. if you can't sit still long enough to meditate, just focus on taking 3 deep breathes
when you wash your face, draw sigils on your face with the cleanser and moisturiser
^do the same as above but with your body wash and when you wash your hair
say some affirmations/manifestations while brushing your teeth
just check in with yourself and see how you're feeling spiritually, psychically and emotionally. sometimes we don't actually know how we're feeling until we sit down and actually ask ourselves.
If anyone has any more to add please comment. I'll add them to the list (with credit of course)

How Do I Disassemble A Spell Jar?
I’ve seen way too many posts about how to make one, but never any about how to take one apart.
If you buried your spell jar (or otherwise placed it somewhere not in your general vicinity), retrieve it first.
There are a few ways to go about disassembling a spell jar.
Throwing Everything Away
Returning It to Nature
Burning It
Putting It Into Another Container for Safekeeping
Retrieving the Reusable Ingredients (crystals, shells, etc.) and Getting Rid of the Rest
Throwing Everything Away
As simple as it sounds. I would recommend breaking the seal (melting it or even just stabbing it) before getting rid of it, to break the spell itself. Keep the jar and wash it or throw it away with the rest of it. Throw the contents into the trash (or a dumpster, if you don’t want it near you).
Returning It to Nature
Also very simple. Can only be used with natural ingredients. Do not dump in rivers. Retrieve any non-organic materials (crystals, shells, poppets, etc.) to either reuse or get rid of separately. Be sure it doesn’t include things that can harm the local wildlife.
Burning It
Empty the contents of the jar into a different, fire-safe bowl or plate. Then, burn it. Simple as that. Lighters or matches, it doesn’t matter. Be sure that you and any pets or family can inhale the fumes from it. This is usually used with spells that have little amounts of ingredients. Be sure to research fire safety and safety when it comes to burning herbs and other ingredients.
Putting It Into Another Container for Safekeeping
Transferring the contents into a different container. Usually done when you want to reuse the jar or size down the original jar. Break the seal, pour it into your other container, seal that, and you’re done. Super easy. Can also be used when putting a spell into a ‘dormant’ state.
Retrieving the Reusable Ingredients and Getting Rid of the Rest
What I see the most in the witch community. Reusable ingredients include crystals, shells, rocks, bones, and anything else that can be used again. Doing this is a bit harder when the jar has liquid. Break the seal and place the contents of the jar into another container. Then, pick out all of the reusable items, the ones that you want to keep. Wash them and dispose of the contents of the jar through one of the methods above.
Notes
When disassembling a spell jar, it’s always good to declare the intentions of the jar done (or dormant). If the spell could have negative consequences on your or someone else’s life, be sure to neutralize the energy you have put into the spell. Cast a counter-spell or just neutralize the spell. Please tell me if I missed anything!

o, hermes — luck-bringer with the  sly smile, joy-touched & ever-swift  god. my heart leaps, springing out  of the snares of this world in order to follow your fleet-footed ways. you drive away the troubles, bounding like the hare out of the tightening wire.   & hidden in the corner of your wily  smile, i discover my own laughter —

Worshipping the gods doesn't have to be super serious devotion level worship all the time. I see some people worry about having "too many deities", but you don't have to have a close relationship with a deity to work with them or pray to them. In fact, it was more common in ancient times to NOT be devoted to any specific deity at all if you weren't some kind of religious figure, like a priest or priestess. Most of the time, there were certain deities that a person would favor, but their worship was not the in-depth type of devotion we see on witchblr a lot. In fact, ancient people sometimes went to a temple for a specific god once in their whole life to pray for something very specific and give offerings and then never needed that specific deity ever again. That's the very nature of these large pantheons. You will have favorites, but even then, you don't NEED to be devoted to them to ask for their help or pray to them.
I say this as mostly a Greco-Roman polytheist, but I'm sure it applies to other large pantheons as well. And, as always, certain gods may be an exception to the rule and require more, both historically and UPG-wise. But it is still a good general rule of thumb. There is no pressure to find a patron or become a devotee of any deity, unless you truly desire to do so.

My Apartment's Gods
The Hellenic Polytheist community often seems split between two camps: Reconstructionism and Revivalism. I’d like to expand upon that topic at a later date, but for now, I've been reflecting on ways the lines between the two seem to blur and overlap, in my own experience.
I live in a small city apartment, and as you can imagine, my living situation requires certain accommodations.
For example, I reconstruct in that I offer libations and food offerings to the Gods, but in doing that I also adapt and revive those practices because I:
give my offerings and libations indoors, into an offering bowl rather than outside on the ground, because I do not have outdoor space.
libate water rather than wine, since we commonly drink water nowadays and I'm usually unable to drink for medical reasons.
pour my libations down the sink following prayer, because I do not have access to an outdoor means of disposal.
use everyday household items like drink tumblers and cereal bowls, because I have little space and few dedicated altar items.
offer common, everyday foods when I do not have more traditional items available.
I also reconstruct in my faith when I celebrate holidays and sacred days like Hekate's Deipnon and the Noumenia, but I revive these practices as well, because I:
make donations to local charities in Hekate's honor.
give my offerings and libations indoors, and take Hekate's special offerings outside to my complex's trash, because it's illegal to leave food outside.
make modern desserts and foods to feed my ancestors and celebrate the holy days, since my ancestors and any guests would expect local food.
keep my shrine to Hekate Propylaia indoors, because again, I do not have the privilege of owning a home for an outdoor space.
use minimal incense and candles to avoid creating a fire hazard in my building.
The above are just a few examples, but illustrate why I think the divide between Reconstructionsm and Revivalism is silly. I used to consider myself a staunch Reconstructionist, but as much as we try to adhere to "historical precedent," we can only do so much in our modern day.
Our homes are no longer built with the Gods' worship in mind, and our cities no longer celebrate the Immortals. Asphalt and concrete cover what would have been grass and earth, and modern laws and safety precautions prohibit us from pouring out libations whenever and wherever we please. We cannot expect access to a temple, although our family abroad are rebuilding some.
Still, we have home worship, as the ancients always did. Today, our homes look different. Our world and the life we live in it are drastically changed. We can't expect our worship will not also change, even if in spirit it remains the same.
I believe that as a community, Hellenic Polytheists can reach a happy medium, one which looks to the past for inspiration, but understands it will be shaped by the future. We all have more in common than we think, because we are all devoted to the Gods.
