i read chapter 698 as a love confession. you know why? because it is.

let’s look at this objectively.

it starts with sasuke begging naruto to tell him why, why he continues to do so much for sasuke’s sake, why he was willing to die with him, why he was willing to be maimed for him, why he wouldn’t give up on him, despite having every right to. even when everyone else did.

this question isn’t new, either. it’s not something naruto hasn’t answered before. sasuke asked him why he wouldn’t give up in vote1 & naruto told him he was one of his most precious bonds. he asked him again in the 5 kage summit arc & naruto told him it was because they were friends. sasuke has enough answers, but he asks again. why? because he’s not satisfied with the answer naruto’s given him. because he’s looking for more.

naruto doesn’t disappoint, giving him the same ‘we’re friends’ response. sasuke is not having it. he gets visibly angry, clearly displeased with the answer. he presses forward & asks naruto for more, asks him to put a meaning to the supposed feeling of ‘friendship’ naruto keeps pushing on him. why? because what he feels for naruto, and what he believes naruto feels for him, is more than friendship. because he needs to know that naruto feels the same way for him that he does for naruto.

so naruto describes the feelings he has for sasuke in words. he tells him that he hurts when sasuke hurts. that he feels his pain too.

i will make a point of bringing up the fact that this ‘i hurt when you do’ is used countless times in media & literature to represent love—especially and predominantly romantic love. and the kicker of this is that this is what makes sasuke react.

sasuke’s expression here is probably one of the most emotion filled expressions of him in the manga. he’s shocked by naruto’s admission, by naruto’s confession. this is a huge deal for him.

this is more than friendship to him.

then we get to see into sasuke’s thoughts about naruto, for the first time in the entirety of the series.

this is sasuke’s confession.

sasuke explains everything he thought of naruto, using phrases like ‘seeing you made me feel warm and fuzzy’, implying things like ‘loving you made me feel weak’.

and sasuke finishes it all with the fact that he hurt when naruto hurt. all along, he’s felt pain when naruto’s in pain. all along, he has reciprocated naruto’s feelings to a tee.

all along, he’s loved naruto back just as much as naruto loved him.

once you realize this, it is easier to understand his reaction to naruto telling him he felt his pain. sasuke reacted like that because he realized that his love was reciprocated, that this feeling of ‘friendship’ that naruto kept going on about was the same thing that sasuke felt all this time. and that it was never friendship at all.

it was love.

then sasuke accepts defeat. accepts that he’s lost. but this acceptance is more than just understanding he’s lost a battle.

sasuke is accepting naruto’s feelings for him he’s accepting his own feelings for naruto. he’s accepting that he never could kill naruto and he never would be able to, not know that he knows that he loves him. not now that he understands the distances naruto would go to for him and why.

sasuke brings it up once more, a few moments later. naruto tells him he knows he won’t try to go rogue again, and sasuke asks him how he can be so sure. to me, it seems like a final effort to really prove to himself that naruto loves him.

and naruto does.

he tells him not to make him repeat himself. he tells him that he knows he won’t because he loves sasuke, and sasuke loves him in turn. because they share each other’s pain and there’s no question about that anymore.

he tells him ‘you won’t hurt me again, now that you know how i feel, now that you’ve seen my heart, now that i’ve seen yours, you won’t hurt me again.’

and sasuke cries tears of joy. because, even after everything, naruto loves him and naruto trusts him.

and the chapter ends with a panel of naruto and sasuke, lying on their backs, with the blood between their arms making it look as if they are holding hands.

they are finally together, exactly where they’re supposed to be.

i don’t know how anyone could read this and not see how it’s love.

It motivated me to ask you if you could summarize all the moments sasuke had a chance to kill naruto and also the one’s he wanted to kill naruto from beginning to end but at the end couldn’t do it and why he later states why he could not because clearly the anti SNS fans use the excuse that sasuke wanted to kill naruto without watching or reading the anime or manga. I’ve seen some of your posts about this topic but I “think” that you actually never went deep into it . I love your tumblr and couldn’t help but ask😊🤔 oooh and can you compare it to the times he’d tried to kill sakura (but sakura was saved) 👀and the difference . Thank YOU ( sorry for not putting periods or comas I hat them)

But unlike SS stans, I am not going to twist facts and say Sasuke never wanted to kill Naruto. He surely did want to kill him in VoTE1 and VoTE2. But the reason behind his motivations differs whenever he wants to cut down Naruto and kill Sakura.

And Sasuke always fights a mental battle within himself. That is, listen to the mind... Kill Naruto and live with the painful regret of losing him or listen to the heart and body... Don't kill Naruto. And to be honest, Sasuke's mental resolve to kill Naruto will always be stronger at the beginning of the battle. But as time goes on, Sasuke's resolve will get weaker and becomes vulnerable.

And this mental battle is not something I make up on my own. Sasuke is a person, who does something first and usually comes up with a logical reasoning later. Which clearly means that his mind and body acts separately most of the time.

With all this being said,

Number of times Sasuke tried/missed to Kill Naruto

Chidori through Lungs

This is the only moment in the entire Manga where Sasuke almost managed to kill Naruto. And Am not going to deny by saying, 'Oh, Sasuke deep down didn't want to do it'. He really meant to kill Naruto here. Like I said before, this is the beginning of the battle where Sasuke's resolve were at the strongest. If you are not careful, you are definitely toast. And Naruto, at this point, was shell-shocked and crying because he couldn't handle the betrayal from Sasuke and also wasn't paying attention to Sasuke's attacks.

But the whole deal about this scene is that,

Yes, Sasuke did this to awaken his Mangekyou Sharingan (MS). In the Anime, it wasn't shown what he was really thinking. In the Manga, however it was drawn clearly.

This brings me to introduce this panel,

"When an Uchiha suffer after experiencing the loss of a loved one or despair, special chakra sprouts inside their brains, which affects the optic nerve and produces a change in their eyes"

Well, this Sharingan Evolution or Love Doujutsu never served Pinky. If Sasuke attempted to kill her with this thing in mind, then am pretty sure they go kooo kooo crazy over it.

So, whether Sasuke tried to kill Naruto or not, that's a different story. But it's an undeniable fact that at this point, Sasuke's loved one who can give him MS was Naruto alone and not anyone else from Team 7

Well, when Sakura proposed him, Sasuke could've easily killed her and get his MS easily if she was his loved one. Why didn't he do that?

VoTE 1 fist balling his palms

This is another instance where Sasuke could've rammed his Chidori just like before. He intentionally balled up his fists, carefully avoided Naruto's vital spots and just knocked him out rather than killing him.

And the important thing to notice here is that Sasuke was at his Cursed Seal Stage 2 for the first time.

Well, When someone enters into the stage 2 of Cursed Seal, the killing impulse would be magnified just like Jugo. Still Sasuke could able to rationalize at that moment and just knocked him out.

So, I guess he totally lost the resolve to kill here.

I really don't have to explain anything further, Do I? All sasuke has to do was to take a Kunai and stuck into Naruto’s chest and walk away. Why couldn’t he do it!!??

Orochimaru Hideout

There are million possibilities I am see here on how to kill Naruto. Sasuke is a medium to long distance fighter. From where he was standing, he could've easily killed Naruto using this jutsu,

It extends upto 5 meters. Also, if Sasuke really wanted to kill Naruto using his sword, then he should've landed before Naruto at certain distance and plunged at him straight through his heart. With his teleportation speed, nobody could've stopped him. There is no need to get close to him, draw a sword slowly and act like a diva.

And most importantly,

“You are going to end up losing your life all at a whim of mine” .If this is a whim why is he announcing it??? Whim is something you do it in the spur of the moment, right???

And if Sasuke killed Naruto there, he could have obtained his Mangekyo Sharingan (MS) and doesn’t need Orochimaru anymore. The power was right there brimming in front of his eyes in the form of Naruto, all he has to do is to stab Naruto in his heart and ‘whoosh’.... You get MS. And yet he was content to go along with Orochimaru and leaving Naruto alive again.

Anyways, he never intended to kill Naruto there. Because 35 chapters later, Sasuke did this.

As usual, Sasuke did something at first and shows his reason later. This is the only genuine smile Sasuke had throughout the entire Shippuden until we see him smile in Chapter 698. Even though Sasuke treaded to the edge of the death cliff at this very bridge few years ago, Somehow just Naruto’s name is enough to make Sasuke smile.

Blocking Obito by saying ‘Not You’

Hmmm, pretty interesting!!! If I really have a grand plan of ‘Revolution’ going on in my mind and If I have a rival who would oppose me, then I will, for sure, let my rival die here rather than protecting that person.

Like always, Sasuke comes up with a logical reason that, ‘Not You. The one who should sever the past is me’. Well, Whatever man!!!!

Susanoo protection

I always love this scene as I see it as a genuine ‘My body moved on its own’ thing here. Sasuke could’ve protected himself by excluding Naruto since Naruto can already go into Tailed Beast Mode to repel any attacks just like Susanoo. Also, Sasuke made it clear just earlier that he wants to kill Naruto to cut off his past. He could’ve used this chance to leave him to die.

Like if I want my friend to be gone, I definitely would use this chance since killing a friend with my own hands is mentally taxing!!! Well, Sasuke somehow wanted to do it personally!!!

Sharingan switched off

If only Sasuke didn’t turn off his Sharingan, he could’ve easily deflected Naruto’s upper cut as Sharingan can track high speed attacks and landed his Chidori on Naruto. He can’t simply look into Naruto’s eyes and kill him without getting affected and that shows Sasuke’s true intention.

Number of Times he really wanted to kill Sakura or ignored Sakura

Under the Bridge 1

This scene screams dishonesty at every level. First off, Sakura lied about betraying Konoha. Second off, she lied about joining Sasuke even though she came there to kill him. Third off, She is totally not interested in what Sasuke really wanted and why he was doing this.

And Sasuke was already under murder rampage and he didn’t even warn her but instead goes behind her back and wanted to finish her off. Well, I don’t blame him for that because he saw through her lies and concluded that she is another one of Konoha’s betrayers rather than a former Team mate. If not for Kakashi, she would have been dead already.

Where is the hesitation to kill he usually has with Naruto?

If he really thought of her as a former team mate or someone with whom he has some hidden feelings for her inside, he should have stopped his rampage just like how he stopped himself in the Forest of the Death.

Whereas Sasuke could stop his rampage and come to his sense for a while when he met ‘certain’ someone’s eyes.

Under the Bridge 2

This is another dishonest approach by trying to kill behind his back. Why couldn’t this trash face Sasuke head-on and fight with him? What’s more pathetic is that he is trying to kill her like a mosquito!!! There is no hesitation or warning!!!!

Pffft.... Anyways.... Nothing to say. If not for Naruto, She would be in hell already.

While I sincerely felt sorry for Karin because she was never dishonest, she really helped him in his fight with Danzo and she was not even from Konoha, I couldn’t feel the same for this Pink Trash though.

Chakra bomb explosion

I originally meant to put this under Naruto’s section. But still, I feel this section is more appropriate. Sasuke was not under murder rampage or darkness shit here. He was very sound and clear for the entire War Arc. And he knows his priority. I couldn’t see Pink Trash’s mention here. If what those stans say was true about Sasuke had feelings on her ever since Part 1, then Sasuke should have mentioned both Naruto and Sakura.

Where is the mention of Cherry Blossom here? I can’t see it well.

On the other hand, What was Sasuke planning to do with Naruto anyway, when the entire Shinobi alliance is dead??? I wonder!!!

Clown Show before Madara

Sasuke looks like he wants to split Madara into half and was fully focused on killing him... He didn’t even ask whether she is okay or not. Whereas Naruto was genuinely concerned about Sakura and helped her out but that trash is not even grateful.

It’s one of the disgusting scenes in the entire series, seriously. I badly wanted to break my laptop when I watched that scene. Why the fuck she is seeking the attention of a boy at that moment? There’s a war going on and this trash wets over a boy for his attention and another trash wets over ‘Naruto-Kun’s’ hands... God!!! These girls made this War Arc even more pathetic.

“Yes, we know you love him Ms. Horny Queen... but for fuck sake, why can’t you shut the fuck up for one moment and discuss the plans with your team mates rather than performing a clown show on your own before the powerful villain on whom you can’t even put a minor scratch? Added to that why the fuck you need Sasuke’s validation”

Lava pit

Again Sasuke is showing his priorities which is as clear as the day, but this Pink Trash doesn’t even have a sense of self-respect and was wetting over his attention throughout the end. People may argue that he saved Naruto only to seal Kaguya. Well, it may be true but his earlier actions proves me otherwise.

Even if Sakura died here, Sasuke would just brush it off as the death of just another guy. And same with Kakashi too. Why couldn’t his body move on its own to protect Pinky and Kakashi?

Now let’s play a small game!!!!

Just look at the following panel, and then go back to the beginning of the post and see what you find!!!!

As you know, this panel is from the Chuunim Exams arc, where Kabuto prevents Naruto from opening the Scroll.. When Sasuke found that Kabuto has both the scrolls, he challenged him to fight.

For which Kabuto says, “You aren’t as cold-hearted as you say. It this test had really turned you into that then why would you even ask to challenge me? Instead of doing that... You could have just attacked me and tried to take the scroll”

If Sasuke didn’t issue a formal warning to fight which means he really wanted to kill someone without any second thoughts. Now just go back and see as to how many times he tried to warn Naruto before making any attempts and how many times he tried to warn Sakura?

Sasuke never warned Orochimaru when he tried to kill him, he never warned Danzo, Karin, Sakura or Kakashi.

I’ll just leave it at that.

Anyways, no matter how much we show this to their face, they will still cling on to that ‘Eye Smex’ scene and claims that Sasuke could have left her to fall instead he held her tightly and looked at her like he wants to have smex right then and there. But it’s a pity that those guys don’t even realize that even in Borutoverse Sasuke would gladly prefer to save Salad over Pinky at any given day, if such a situation arises.

And to finish off this post,

Sasuke couldn’t even handle seeing Naruto losing his arms despite he himself had lost one. How would he react if he really saw Naruto dead before his eyes????

This expression proves that Sasuke’s mind may have been prepared to kill Naruto. But his heart could not handle the reality if it really happens. He would be heart broken and weep immeasurably. Whereas with some pink trash, all he said was ‘Sorry’.

Finally this brings me to my favourite SNS panel,

“Don’t kill Naruto... You’ll end up regretting”
