This feels very weird to say, but Mango Float is officially over! After about four years of brainstorming and picking up and abandoning this project, I can say I’m genuinely surprised it got made. The last 6 months have been hours of me writing and drawing every single day and I started to worry I’d give up again.

I said this when I posted the first pages, but the idea for this came about because I was mourning the recent loss of my grandma, who I was very close with. She had dementia in her last 10 years, the final 5 being the worst of it, and I had a very difficult time reckoning with the loss of our relationship and her memories of it long before the loss of her physical body. In the end all I can do is hope this story did a halfway decent job at exploring the loss of some relationships and the hopeful rekindling of others. And more than that, the need to extend grace and empathy to those at different stages of mourning from our own.
