So. Data pearls in Rain World are really just that; a form of data storage. There's no reason, considering how they supposedly work, to believe they come with any way to display what's on them by themselves, and instead you need a separate device (or purposed creature if we want to classify iterators that way) to actually read out the data within and convert it into a displayable format.

My point being.

Five Pebbles isn't "playing" the music pearl in the way that word would suggest. The actual sounds being produced, that's all him. He's singing.

rain world shipping is fun i like making the fictional rodents kiss but it becomes sliiightly less fun when you make an AU and you have to decide which ones to omit, especially when you swap back and forth between favourite ships

ive been drooling over godmode recently (if it wasnt obvious), but reversal is canon to said AU but godmode isnt NOT canon technically

saint is getting a few overhauls, mostly in design, because i was REALLY not happy with it im still not done with its design, but im happier with it it also like doesnt hate enot as much anymore, and it is in an on-and-off situationship with them. Also this is the 2nd post that shows enot's spine being weird so i might as well explain it: Enot can elongate his spine, which includes his neck. When he lengthens his body, new pairs of arms "sprout" out at regular intervals ill draw centipede enot soon as well, that'd be funny i think

Juno rants about Rain World ships :)

PREFACE: I don't actually care as much as I'm about to make it look like. I'm solely stating why I don't like/participate in certain ships. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and you can make your fictional rodents kiss even if those specific rodents aren't my forte. This is HEAVILY bias, ideas I have about each character do kind of seep in here, but once again, this is opinion. This is also LOOONG - I go quite in depth. Rain World and Rain World: Downpour spoilers ahead!

That said - I'll start off strong:

CherryBomb | Artificer x Hunter

This one is like Rain World's most popular ship, and for good reason - two characters that focus on violence. We love it when two characters beat the shit out of someone and they're also together, it adds a little sweetness to the catharsis. However, in almost every depiction of the ship, it feels like Hunter is overshadowed heavily by Artificer. Hunter is usually demoted from "the messenger of NSH, revivor of LTTM and renowned warrior" to just Artificer's partner. Hunter tends to lack substance besides being starry-eyed whenever Artificer's around. This also has the inverse effect on Artificer, turning her from a war criminal on a quest to avenge her pups to "tomboy butch lesbian". In my opinion. I also refuse to believe that Hunter would help Artificer heal; Hunter is destined to die because of their illness, and they are a warrior - so Artificer would have to grapple with Hunter's death, which may bring back the grief caused by her pup's deaths, but catharsis doesn't help heal. We see this in Artificer's "Closure" ending: "The consequences of your journey have caught up with you" - Achievement Description | Closure Artificer's consequences have caught up to them. They've done what they sought to do, but at what cost? What did it change? Violence is (quite literally) not the answer.

FireBush | Artificer x Saint

This one I can kind of get behind, and I get why people like it. Warm x Cold type thing. However, Saint's whole thing is pacifism, while Artificer actively commits genocide. In my eyes Saint's ascension ability still comes under pacifism using the idea that he is a "gift", much like the iterators.

Here, the "noble benefactor" is Sliver of Straw, the "reluctant gift" is Saint, and the "unknowing recipient[s]" being the iterators (and whatever else Saint ascends. Back to the ship. Saint and Artificer are polar opposites. Opposites may attract, but there's exceptions. Small side note: Why is it usually called "KarmaFlower"? Okay yes, Artificer's campaign is heavily related to Karma, being locked at one and having to leech from scavengers but you'd think that pointing out the Karma would be because the character is attuned/focuses on having a high level. And let's assume that Saint is the "Karma" half; what does flowers have to do with Artificer?

FishStick | Rivulet x Spearmaster

I'm generally neutral towards this one, it just feels like the fandom took the two "misfits" and put them next to each other. I suppose they share the end goal of helping Moon, but besides that, they have practically nothing in common.

SunStone | Seven Red Suns x Five Pebbles

This isn't about the fictional rodents but this is my blog I do what I want /silly I personally don't like this one, mostly because Suns and Pebbles have a very obvious mentor/mentee relationship, and Pebbles almost sees Suns like an older sibling, someone he can turn to and vent his frustrations, and Suns responds accordingly with advice. This one has the same issue that Lilypad (NSH x Moon) has, where there canon characters have a positive relationship, so they are immediately shipped. That's another reason I don't like SunStone, I'm not a fan of ships based entirely the fact they have a mildly positive canon relationship.

Waning Crescent | Sliver Of Straw x Looks To The Moon

This one also has the same problem as SunStone and Lilypad, but more extreme in my opinion. This whole ship is based on one essay Moon wrote, saying that Sliver should be allowed to rest in peace. Which is basic respect for the dead.
