These are the collage’s I made using the photo’s we took around college. I wanted to create something that is personal and fits in with universally human and issues around Identity defiantly do. I wanted to make a collage that displayed opposites, opposite colours, opposite locations (city/nature) and a covering of the face as it all fits in with a struggle to finding identity. I have made pieces of work reflecting issues with mental health a few lessons back and I feel like this is a good development on that. I feel like this really reflects the work of

On 30/09/21 we did our first photoshop workshop and we learnt how to use images take from around the college and turn them into a collage. The first thing I did was developed some of the garments I made last lesson, using these patterns, editing them and using them to display layers. I really liked these and it showed development using/creating my own patterns however I wanted to experiment with making an actual collage and pushing myself to learn more photoshop skills.

These are two designs I took and refined. I wanted to keep the gilet mainly how it was just adding colour to enhance the piece. However with the jacket I wanted to add different designs/patterns to signify the different layers and materials. Each layer would be detachable and will have its own way to do the jacket up. For example the piece of fabric with the face pattern on will be connected to the top right shoulder with poppers and can be clipped into the bottom left of the jacket to be done up. This piece is similar to Yohji Yamamoto’s work as he experiments with lots of layers and different ways a jacket can be done up and different materials can be attached.

I then took the best projections and used them to create items of clothing that would best suit the mask. I tried to make a mix of designs, minimal garments and more abstract pieces. I think the best piece is the gilet design or the jacket as the gilet allowed me to incorporate a design into the whole piece allowing me to be creative and make the hood look like it’s the persons hair. And the top middle jacket showed me lots of different layers and made me think about many different ways of doing the jacket up with wrap around layers, zips, rope, poppers and across the front layers.

Worksop on 29/09/21. For this workshop we had to develop on some of our previous work using it as inspiration to work into it. I really liked how my mask came out and wanted to pursue a abstract clothing route. I decided to try and make a garment that avant-garde look of the mask. I drew onto see through sheets with a marker and projected them onto a mannequin, this showed me how it would fit on the body and shapes I could use as a sleeve or different layers. This turned out so well and I really enjoyed learning a new process of inspiration for creating garment ideas. I feel like this allows me to be creative with thinking of designs to go on pieces using a marker to outline layers and putting ripped pieces of paper on top to block out layers.

This is the mask I created in inspiration of the people I researched. I used Copper wire bending it into a good shape and fitting my face and then stuck on coloured shapes to make a visor like glasses. I think the most relevent aspect of this piece is the colour of the glasses and the way it sits on the face allowing facial expression through leaving the mouth not covered and the colour of the glasses and futuristic minimalism showing the daft punk influence. I think this piece really reflects Tony Gardners interests in Avant-Garde work and making things look futuristic. However it differs not covering up the whole face and not hiding the identity of the person. In future I would like to make it seem more mysterious, and using this outline to make it an actual mask and maybe bringing in my own interest in fashion to make a punk like, futuristic outfit to go with this and be worn as a whole set.

For my crafts workshop I wanted to do create something that really went with the universally human theme. I am really into rap and fashion and the fact that rappers wearing masks as a fashion statement really intrigues me. So I decided to create a mask with all of these as inspiration. So I decided to do some research on artists that wear masks, my main inspiration will be MF DOOM and Daft Punk. Through my research I found out about Tony Gardner and how he makes masks and creates. This really intrigued me to see if I could challenge myself and make something similar to his work in the workshop.

With these two pieces I made. I really wanted to stray away from the way I draw and challenge myself with different medium I hadn’t used before. So I tried to use ink to blend colours and a pipet to do a detailed abstract face. I also used the ink to make circles and smudge it with a fruit wrapper. For me the most meaningful aspect was that there are lots of ways to create an image and that a pipet has a lot of uses and can be used for making backgrounds but also from making fine lines and doing detailed drawings.

In this lesson we were made to bring in lots of different objects to turn into artistic processes and my idea was that we use a tube of bubbles combined with ink to make a thick marker pen. To make graffiti type drawings. You can clearly see the inspiration from Keith Haring, the thick lines and cartoon type drawings really reflect this and I think it really suits the way I draw. On the third image I tried different processes like wrapping bubble wrap around a tube and rolling paint on it.

After making our 3 drawings with a narrative. We had to take those into ceramics and create a piece out of clay based off of these drawings. I decided to take the third image and try to replicate that with some 3D elements. I really like the 3D face and for me the most significant thing I learnt was that working with clay in 3D can bring such a organic and natural element to the piece that may not be able to be shown on paper. I think this may be a really good medium to show issues such as mental health issues and more abstract pieces of art.

In our next session we were told to take something from our collage, and turn it into a piece of art that had narrative and sequence. So I decided to take the small line drawing of a person in the top right of my collage and show 3 stages of anxiety. Being Overthinking, Mindlessness, and Complete chaos in the head.

This was the collage I desired to posterise and take foreword. There is inspiration from my other collage using red fabric to represent blood and comics on the cardboard which I took off the other collage and put on this one. I also used different manga, comic and magazine images to replicate some scenarios on the page. Lastly I used fabric to make cape and scarf to use on my drawing of the book I brought in as one of my 10 items.

This is the collage I decided not to take foreword. There are distorted photocopies from my items and, I really liked the use of using red fabric to replicate blood and gluing comic strips on to cardboard to make the collage a little more 3 dimensional.

Some of the drawings that I didn’t end up using in my collage. I really like the gothic lettering font and that could be something that I could refine and use later on. I also enjoy the process of ink and pipette and I think that could come out quite good when doing some patterns latter on.

In lesson we were told to use our 10 items to quickly make 10 drawings and 10 photocopies (distorted or normal) to inspire us for our collage’s we were going to make. Here is some of my items.

Before going to lesson and using my 10 objects to produce some artwork, I did some research on Takashi Murakami and how he challenges diversity and equality. Through my research I found out about what made Murakami special and I was inspired by his work. I really like the colour and the 3D elements of his work and will definitely be something I take into future pieces of work.

This is my front cover for my universally human project, I wanted to make the cover about things I enjoy and inspire me. I have drawings from my favourite artists, to t-shirts and knitwear designs/actually finished products made by me.
