Coming out today as intentionally starting the rumor that Sam Reid is actually 5’8. The truth is, I wanted to do a social experiment. I have found that online calling men shorter than they are is often considered emasculating. I picked Sam Reid since I love his acting, and he’s not very online, lower chances he’d come across it!

The truth is I love short people and I love short men, and….since I’m actually 5’0, I don’t really consider 5’8 to be that short.

In doing this experiment I wanted to judge the overall fan response to this amoral statement, while initially people accepted it and moved on, later some people were offended by my calling Sam Reid 5’8, accusing me of trying to “cancel” him (as if being shorter than stated is a moral offense). I was also accused of not liking Sam Reid as a person.

Interestingly enough, I found that those who were major fans of the actor seemed to have a much more negative reaction to the information than those who could be called more casual fans—indicating my hypothesis that favor of male actors is inherently linked to height correct, and that calling someone shorter is considered insulting. Especially since adding three inches was not considered an accusation so much as taking away two inches.

Overall this experience and experiment was pretty illuminating and fun, thank you to the kind people who assumed I had been misled and gracefully corrected me, and to those who caught on to my lies and were still kind to me in spite of it! I appreciate it! Also thank you to those who helped with my little (pun intended) experiment! You know who you are.
