The Russo-Ukrainian War
Of course, how could I possibly make posts about international news and NOT discuss the Russo-Ukrainian war?! Ukraine's capital of Kyic continues to be pelted with missiles and bombs by Russian forces. Though tensions have been high between Ukraine and Russia for many, many, MANY years, the current conflict really came to a head in 2014 with Russia's annexation of Crimea. Originally referred to as the Ukraine Crisis, it has now been about 464 days since the conflict escalated into all out war. Efforts in the international community to negotiate peace have either failed or been short-lived, and more and more countries are now simply picking sides and offering ally ship and aid. Apparently, A trove of purported US intelligence documents posted online has indicated that as many as 354,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers have been killed or injured in the Ukraine war, and that the conflict may grind on well beyond 2023. I dearly hope that isn't the case...read more below!

Uganda's Anti-LGBT Laws
It is is with a heavy heart that I write this post, here on the first day of pride month.... very recently, Uganda passed one of the harshest anti-lgbt laws to date. It provides for life imprisonment for those caught engaging in homosexual relations, and even death penalty in certain circumstances! However, the international community is not sitting idly by. The USA and a few other countries are currently considering restricting the visas for Ugandan officials, in retaliation for this bigoted and dangerous law. This is another example of a topic that has greatly intrigued me throughout the semester - the ethical/moral duty to step in where human rights are being violated, even when it does not directly affect your own country and citizens. The New Space Race
The "Space Race" originally referred to US/USSR Cold War tensions and the race to be the first country to put a man on the moon. Today, The USA's lunar race appears to be heating up again (get it...Cold War.....pardon the pun), but with an all new opponent! Though the USA's space program has taken a back seat for several years now, it is picking back up again thanks to wealthy private backers such as Space X and Blue Origin. The goal? Apparently, it's to try to beat China to colonizing the moon/mars! There been quite a stir recently, especially as China very recently launched a 3 person team aboard the Shenzhou 16 spacecraft, destined for the Chinese space station. Are outer space colonies closer than we think? What does this mean for international relations and international law? Will we soon be considering intergalactic law? read more below!!!!!

Howdy folks! I’m just a lowly law student trying to earn my JD. I’ve officially turned in everything for all of my classes EXCEPT: three social media posts for my International Law class. This is the last thing I need to do to earn my JD!!! But I’m not really on social media anymore, so I created this blog for that sole purpose. :)
