in short this is technically a runaway magazine au where Bellini is a stylist and also a higher authority in the fashion publishing company and meets the new (indifferent) assistant from the italian branch, Goffredo and is forced to work with him for a few months

(if you're wondering why I drew Tedesco so calm here is because I based him a bit off of sergio's other character, Arturo, From Il Grande Cocomero + probably mixing up those two personalities)

Bellini despises sneers at his new assistants' more practical and less thought out outfits and with this sentiment decides to give him a hard time adapting in classic Tucci-Character fashion

Aldo BOSSES him around but Tedesco just doesn't budge or does it begrudgingly

well to be honest he just happen to always see him at his worst + his terrible smoking habits absolutely annoys him he needs to ban vapes or cigs from ever reaching the office

Slowly I guess their apathy towards each other becomes so clear they started from talking shit behind each other's backs to insulting each other in the function while EVERYONE watches

They both ARE passionate abt fashion though, which is reason why they always butt-heads sometimes because their tastes are so different (Bellini would NOT trust someone who wears a simple white shirt and outer to work and calls it fashion) but is ALSO reason why they meet in the middle and get along so well

bonus: moments where they get along is only during OVERTIME where no one can see or attest to it bc no one will ever believe these two will ever agree on something

I am so fascinated by the way the cardinals speak to each other. On the one hand it's primo repression—everything they say has to be coded and danced around. It takes so many steps of formality and apology for Lawrence to ask Tremblay if the accusations are true, and even once he 'speaks freely' they're still doing a tango of subtext.

But on the other hand, all of that drama and symbolism affords them a way to speak really openly with each other, if they choose to. I mean, in what other context could somebody say "search your heart, and then tell me it isn't so" and be completely serious?

To say "I had the temerity to tell you to search your own heart..." as part of an apology to a friend without a hint of irony?

It's so performative, but also strangely sincere on another level. I would need a lot more words to ask even a good friend to sit on my bed and hold my hand while I have a breakdown over my shattered dreams than "Will you pray with me?"

Like yeah they can't say "I like you" or "The new guy's kinda hot, right?" but I can't tell my friends to search their hearts so...

Also I think it hadn't hit me before, but oh - when Lawrence breaks into the previous pope's apartments, he is specifically breaking Tremblay's seal. Tremblay as the Camerlengo was the one who put the seal on the apartments, which is meant to be a duty to the late pope and the church, but also hid, literally secreted, locked away, obstructed, the evidence of his crimes.

And that's the seal Lawrence broke.

at a conference I attended recently, a researcher pointed to the difficulty of finding material in archives because so much depends on the metadata and the terminology used to describe things changes over time. "it would be so helpful," the researcher said, "if I typed 'lesbian' into the library of congress database, it would also show me results that were categorised in the 50s, when the materials were interpreted as 'intimate female friendships'"

which is what tag wrangles at Archive Of Our Own do incredibly effectively: searching for "omegaverse" also leads to "alpha/beta/omega dynamics" and "alternate universe: a/b/o" and so on. but ao3 achieves this frankly incredible categorisation and indexing system by the power of countless volunteers putting in hours and hours of unpaid and unthanked free time, and it's completely understandable that most archives do not have that kind of infrastructure, but also how incredible that a fan-run website has better searchability, classification, and accessibility than the library of congress
