AAH, I´m glad that you liked the song. It belongs to a musical about The Odyssey called "Epic The Musical" (one of my currents obsessions when I´m not here talking about certain meerkat and warthog). You may want listen the other 39 songs, all of them are AMAZING.

And, about the animatic. I´ll try to do it. Is so "Timon and Pumbaa" that I have to do it. A scene that always got me is when Penelope asks Odysseus to move their bed, a weding gift that he made to her, located in an olive tree, which symbolizes fidelity and their unbreakable bond as a couple, and I love that because Timon and Pumbaa´s bed is also LOCATED in the root of a tree and it just... aaaah.

(new headcanon: the roots covered part of the bed of Timbaa and now it can´t be moved, like their bond)

First, I absolutely LOVED the little unfinished Timbaa comic that you post.

Now, there is a phrase that Pumbaa says ("Ya know, I really thought I´d never see you again (...) And... Even if you hadn´t come back.. I would´ve keep waiting")

And that remind me SO HARD to this song (specially since minute 03:51):

The song treats about the reunion of Odysseus and Penelope (a marriage couple from The Odyssey, idk if you are familiarised with greek mitholigy) after 20 years of beginning apart (forcibly) from each other, and it's BEAUTIFUL and also reminds me a lot to Timbaa at some points. I can totally see Pumbaa singing to Timon lots of the parts of Penelope.

Damn, I need to make an animatic of these too with that song one day.

It’s kind of unreal how well that song actually fits my fanfic! But it also makes sense because there is definitely some loose inspiration from The Odyssey in the narrative.

Mainly with how this story is about a long and painful journey for Timon and Pumbaa, one that’s not just physically demanding, but also emotionally grueling.

It’s one where Timon and Pumbaa are thrust into a quest that is already a consequence of poor decision-making on Timon’s part. But instead of learning from his mistakes, Timon keeps doubling down on “knowing best” and “being the leader,” and thus leads them into a situation where they are VIOLENTLY separated from each other in the middle of their journey.

And Timon is COMPLETELY unprepared to find his own way. Due to his refusal to plan and memorize the route, he is LOST. And he’s left to grapple with what it means to have to rely on himself, and to deal with the fact that his last words to Pumbaa were cruel, and that he might never see him ever again. He’s facing the very real possibility that one (or both) of them might die before he ever gets the chance to be truly honest with Pumbaa.

And it’s also about the two of them grappling with what it means to love each other, especially while fighting and struggling and BLEEDING OUT to reunite with one another, all while bonding with other characters and learning to trust. This is a love story through and through, and not just about the formation of the polycule.

No, the more I keep working on it, the more it’s becoming a love story centered around Timon and Pumbaa. About what their relationship has meant. About the cost of taking love for granted. The cost of fear. The cost of jealousy. The cost of needing control. The cost of dishonesty. And most of all, the cost of guarding your heart, and refusing to believe that you’ve always been loved, and that you’ve always deserved it.

This part of the song you shared felt PARTICULARLY resonant with what I’m writing:

I know that you've been waiting, waiting for love

What kinds of things did you do?

As I traded friends like objects I could use

Where Timon is wrestling with self-loathing after almost becoming the villain in his own story with his desperation to not just reunite with Pumbaa, but redeem himself in Pumbaa’s (and Simba’s) eyes. Because he genuinely believes he’s messed up for good this time. That even if he makes it back to Pumbaa, that Pumbaa wouldn’t even want him anymore. That the things he’s done and the choices he’s made along the way would have finally made him irredeemable in Pumbaa’s eyes.

That’s why Pumbaa’s unconditional love and unwavering forgiveness just… OVERWHELMS Timon in that comic I’m working on. He hears Pumbaa offer forgiveness, and mercy, and LOVE he believes he doesn’t deserve. And before he can stop himself, he blurts out:

“MARRY ME.”

It’s not a question. HAAAAA

And he didn’t even know it was coming. One second he’s taking in Pumbaa’s forgiveness, and the next he’s choking out a love confession.

And he certainly didn’t mean to say it like a command (hell, he didn’t even mean to say it at ALL), but that’s how it comes out. It wasn’t a planned romantic proposal, but a PLEA. It’s a very Timon way of saying:

“I need you. And I can’t go back to pretending I don’t.”

ANYWAYS, I’ll quit yappin’ your ear off! Thank you so much for sharing the song. It’s going on my T&P playlist IMMEDIATELY. And YES, please make that animatic. I’ll watch it over and over again and cry into my pillow. 🤣

Unpopular opinion: Ooooh I don’t know if this counts as unpopular but I want a fanfiction where Timon and Pumbaa decide to officially get married and everybody is scrambling to make it perfect causing hilarity to ensue. Make it an utter failure. Lose the rings (or matrimonial bugs ig). Have smth happen to destroy the venue. Make guests arrive SUPER late. Maybe Timon gets cold feet and gets lost. But in the end, as imperfect as it is, they still say it’s the best wedding ever

There're not many good fanfics of Timon and Pumbaa, and even less taking Pumbaa as main character.

Fanfic Updates:

3.5k words and counting! I don't think I've ever written anything this long this fast outside of college work.

I've done a surprising amount of research on both migratory birds and psychedelic plants found in Africa. Why have I done this? You'll have to find out...

Writing for Pumbaa's Mom is so much fun. In my head I kinda picture her as this large, intense, and stoic figure, but also incredibly warm and inviting to the ones she lets get close enough. (Mind you, that was a very small list Pumbaa was at the top of.) Basically a cool as fuck Butch you'd want share a beer with (if she lets you.) I want to make it clear that most of what makes Pumbaa great, he got from her.
