A small toddler was crying and screaming really loudly and the (I assume) mum didn't seem that bothered about calming the kid down.

The customer I'm serving on the till turned to me and asked why I wasn't offering to help calm the kid.

I am literally the only employee in the store right now. If I wasn't on the till, you wouldn't be getting served. The kid is accompanied by an adult who should be sorting the kid out but is too focused on shopping. I also have no experience with upset toddlers, and not everyone wants strange men approaching to offer to help with their kids.

Because this is not a day care.
