I think I'm starting to realize that even I, and other people calling out the anti-ai reactionaries, are also missing the forest for the trees a little bit. Because we often try and refute a lot of the specific bullshit reasons people give as to why AI is uniquely bad, and they are bad, but it's kind of beside the point. The point is simply: trying to eradicate/stigmatize AI is not going to actually help anyone, it's not going to protect artists, it's not going to save the environment, it's not going to change the status quo at all. So far, all the anti-ai sentiment has achieved is making people wildly reactionary and dumb, or rather revealed that many people who hold themselves out as progressive and smart are not either of those things. It's revealed that people will gladly latch onto anything that explains and justifies their deep disgust with something.
