I feel like there’s some racism in how people perceive Hobie’s age. Adultification happens a lot to black kids and teens. It’s happened to me and to a friend of mine. I’ve also seen it happen to fictional characters. I feel like that’s going on with Hobie. People just can’t accept that someone can be black, tall, and a teenager. Like, it’s wild to me how much racism there is in fandom.

Anyway this is getting kinda long so I’m gonna end this with a note to people who see Hobie as like 20 or so: 1) stop harassing people over a character with no canonical age. The directors havent even agreed with each other. Agree to disagree and move along.

2) remember that punk flower has been around for years. People have been shipping those two since the comics. The ship itself isn’t bad , as comic fans have stated their canonically close in age (both being 16-17) in their crossovers.

3) majority of the punkflower shippers have said that if they do release a canon age for hobie (thats 18 or older) they’ll delete their ship content and

4) please learn how to act right. Y’all out here calling people pedos and groomers. It’s not cute.

There isn't much I can add on to that, but you are so right about the racism in this fandom.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but when people were talking about gwen and hobie possibly being together, nobody had an issue for the most part. Those people weren't being called pedos and proshippers, but as soon as a ship about 2 black males became popular, there was immediate backlash, hate and misinformation being said and spread.

Personally I believe most people harassing primarily punkflower shippers are coming from a place of racism and homophobia.

These types of people need to take a bloody breathe and realise that we have no ill intentions.

I’m sorry it’s just really not fucking fair that In THE ACTUAL MOVIE it can imply something between Gwen and Hobie but the SECOND a people started shipping two black boys together then It became a huge fucking problem, here’s the thing If Hobie is actually older and they never say that in the movie but imply something to the audience that him and a sixteen year old girl could possibly have something between them THEN THATS GROSS I DONT CARE HOW GOOD THE MOVIE IS! Hobie hangs around teens, there was a slight implication of his having romantic feelings for Gwen (A TEEN) at the start, google says he is about the same age as Gwen and Miles and some of you still get mad at shippers in the fandom for believing that Hobie is a teenager.

And I don't see you guys complaining when its Hobie x Gwen, but oh noo...two black men being shipped? Nuh uh, this is problematic because...BECAUSE WHAT? 🤨

Bruce being so done with life because none of his kids treat their medical files on the batcomputer with the importance it deserves. And the worst part is, he can't tell if it's on purpose or if they're all Just Like That.

Dick:

He loves his eldest son but for some reason, he refuses to do anything but put down estimated recovery times in his injuries folder. It's usually in the range of "2 weeks" to "48 hours" but that just leaves Bruce worrying about what happened.

One time, he put down 3 months and he nearly had a heart attack till his son called and told him Kor'i had dumped him and that this was how long he was going to be wallowing.

Jason:

Is nice enough to tell him what happened but doesn't add the degree of injury.

So he'll put down "stabbed" but won't elaborate on whether it was a flesh wound or worse. Bruce goes grey very, very early after Jason is on the field.

Tim:

Gives him just the location of the injury and leaves him to guess what happened.

Could say "arm" or "back of the head" or, on one memorable occasion, "spleen", but won't say what the heck happened to any of those parts.

Was he stabbed?? Shot at?? Who knows. Certainly not Bruce.

Damian:

Only mentions the retribution he got for any injuries he received.

"It's been handled", "he'll never be able to get the drop on me again" and more often than not, just the word "avenged".

Bruce is surprised he has any of his original hair colour left at all.

Duke:

By far the worst one. He writes down injuries in terms of his own pain scale.

Could write "OW!" or "Not Gucci" or "Better than that time Jason hit me in the face with a TV remote".

Once wrote "Non-fatal" which sent Bruce into a spiral because "holy shit Duke?? What do you mean non-fatal?? Yeah I sure hope your injuries weren't lethal?!"

Cass:

Has never been injured on patrol. Often leaves him question marks in her file which...yeah, fair enough.
