“Balius was a good peacocks, he was. He only pecked Mipsy once,” the house-elf solemnly said.

“He was mean and I hated him,” Draco declared, surly as a six year old boy forced to dress up in his finest robes to attend a funeral for a peacock who chased him about the lawn whenever he dared to step outside.

“B-Balius was … he was … he was b-beautiful—” Narcissa couldn’t continue; she buried her face in her handkerchief and wept.

Lucius wrapped his arm around his wife’s waist and made sympathetic noises. “He was a good peafowl. May he rest with my ancestors’ flock up in the sky. Draco, the dirt.”

With more vigour than was appropriate for the occasion, Draco flung fistfuls of dirt at the small mound Lucius had buried underneath the pear tree.

“Can I go now?” Draco complained.

Narcissa choked out a sob, and Lucius sighed.

“Go play,” he said while he fished out a handkerchief for his wife, who had already soaked through her own. “Your mother needs a moment to grieve.”

The best parents in the series are the villains Lucius and Narcissa. They have a trusting relationship with Draco.

I understand why this is a popular belief, but I don’t subscribe to it. Yeah, they cared a lot about Draco and he clearly knew that, but they were also like “hey son, join this extremist cult.” Not a good parenting move 😭

One side of the fandom act like Lucius and Narcissa were horribly abusive and Draco is a poor baby, the other half act like Lucius and Narcissa were the best parents in the world and did nothing wrong. I don’t agree with either! They DID love and care for him (and spoil him), but they also got him involved in the Death Eaters and had him stay at the manor when VOLDEMORT was living there and actively torturing people in the dungeon. I think the fact that they were (up until book 4) good and doting parents would probably make it hard for Draco to rationalize a lot of the other stuff he went through while Voldemort was alive.

We see a lot of the flaws of the Weasley family just because as readers we spend so much time with them. Yeah, Molly can be vindictive and petty, but she’s also going to literally murder someone for hurting her daughter. She and Arthur put so much work into caring for their family, and none of the problems they have as parents are out of the ordinary or really that bad. People are able to have a rose colored look of the Malfoy’s because we only see tiny glimpses of them, whereas the Weasley’s are ever present. And in the brief moments of time with the Malfoys, we do see that they care about Draco (I mean, hello, Narcissa lies to Voldemort for Draco), but they are also putting him in extreme danger and enabling all of his worst behavior constantly.

They aren’t awful parents, per se, but they aren’t the gold standard so many fans see them as. They are complex, as are the Weasleys, but I still see the Weasleys as being better parents. Is that a controversial opinion? Idk

at the end of the day I'll always blame amazon prime for this because WHERE was the promotion - no one in my vicinity had even heard of the show until I mentioned it. watching an amazon prime show, you never get adverts for wot, everywhere you look on public transport no billboards for wot, just got old word of mouth it's not enough

I don't get people who go "oh Draco was groomed/raised to believe in blood supremacy." yeah man and so were Lucius and Narcissa and their parents and grandparents lol! doesn't mean they shouldn't be held accountable for following it!! Sirius and Andromeda broke away from the family tradition in their teens, so there were examples for leaving it behind 🤷

I also don’t think it’s fair to say that Sirius and Andromeda left the family, so if a kid stays in a family like that, it’s because they want to. I mean, some people don’t have strong family attachments (Sirius, for example, had a terrible relationship with his mother; Andromeda left the family because she fell in love with a Muggle-born), and circumstances lead them to break the ties they had. That’s not the case with Draco, Lucius, Narcissa, or Regulus. It’s not the case for anyone who is not only raised to see the world in a certain way, but who also never experiences anything that would make them question that worldview.

Sirius questions things because confronting that worldview means confronting his mother, with whom he had a miserable relationship. Andromeda questions things because of her partner. But the others don’t have anything that could serve as a turning point for them. They’ve been raised that way, things have always worked out well for them in those environments, and they’ve felt supported by their parents, relatives, and friends, who all belong to that same environment.

It’s very hard to realize that everything you’ve been taught your whole life, and everything the people you love and respect—and who love and respect you—believe in is actually wrong, especially when there’s no external circumstance that might cause you to think otherwise. In fact, the only reason the Malfoys start questioning their allegiances is because those ideologies eventually become a threat to them, through Voldemort constantly threatening them if they don’t obey. And Regulus questions his allegiance because Voldemort threatens something that personally matters to him.

That’s why I find it so funny when people say Snape “only stopped being a Death Eater because of Lily.” Of course he did, obviously. People don’t just wake up one day and decide something they’ve always benefited from, something they’ve always been comfortable with and seen as normal, is wrong, unless it hits them personally. That’s a completely normal human reaction. The closest parallel to this is religious cults, and I think anyone who’s been part of one or has known people in very closed and sect-like communities knows exactly what I’m talking about. You don’t leave your community if you’ve always been fine in it, you leave when that community starts harming you or people you care about. Why would they leave otherwise, if they’ve never had a problem and everyone they know and love is part of it?

Finding out the reason Crystal always got the shit bucket was because of van rigging the draw was crazy development.

At first I wondered why she would pick on Crystal but that girl was always singing show-tunes and Van hat Cats related trauma, so it makes sense.

Shauna immediately clocking that they were cheating at the cards but then asking Tai who they meant to pick the queen of hearts is funny. Like, girl, if you switching places caused Mari to pick it then obviously whoever was after Mari was the target.
