we talk a lot about the will and how it establishes the value eddie puts on buck's role in his and christopher's lives. which, yeah, obviously. insanity. but the will itself technically only places buck in the role of parent in the event of eddie's death. which is why that "what you always do" hit me square in the chest the way it did. because it's eddie placing buck in the role of parent now (or parental figure, at least) and not just a parent in the event of his death. it says "this is why i changed my will. not simply because i trust you implicitly with my son and know that you would step up if necessary, but because you already step up. it's what you always do." but neither of them fully understand it, is the thing. i don't think either of them fully understand to what extent eddie considers buck a partner and a secondary parent to christopher, and to what extent buck actively chooses to inhabit both of those roles. which is in part because they have never properly talked about the will. but it's also why they have never properly talked about the will, to each other or to literally any one else. they don't have the language yet. so instead it's "i'm here. what can i do?" and it's "what you always do"

you can see the moment buck's heart breaks when he hears eddie say "I'm worried about me, too" because he was not at all expecting eddie to agree with him. if anything, he probably thought eddie would get defensive. it's just heartbreaking.

I want them to kiss BEFORE talking about their feelings. Sue me. I want that Buddie kiss to shock me, I don’t wanna be on the edge of my seat waiting for it to happen while they finally tell each other how much they love the other. I wanna be watching them argue or sit together happily watching tv or having beers or whatever and choke on my snacks as one of them (Eddie) kisses the other out of NOWHERE.

It’s the elite buddie canon route, no contest.
