Are we educating our next generation correctly?

After watching the video from pre-workshop I think that how raising a child with the right education matters. To me, if a new born child represents a white shirt then their parents and environment will represent paint which shapes them to who they become. Children are born to be creative, if they are not it is because the environment are strangling their creativity by their invisible hands. Besides children, adults too, they shouldn’t have lack of creativeness. If they do, it is because their environment is forcing them to think the way they want them to be. From this point of view, school educators should not be solely blamed for the lack of creativity in children. They are only taking orders from the school board and do what they are told to do in order to earn income for their basic needs just like everyone else. If society is said to be a big machine, then educator will be a tiny gear in that particular machine.

 Besides that, I would like to point out another serious issue which is that whether a child gets a score of 70% or 90% does it really matter? Society put too much pressure on the marks that children score. This can really influence them, student will think that once they score higher marks than others they will get attention from people they care about such as parents or their teacher. Slowly student will set this as their basic aims to prove their own values. On the other hand, they have become the slave of “scores” because they put too much effort and time on how to score higher marks, which will also lessen their time on their creative imagination. Every child has their own unique imagination and thought of thinking, they have their own hobbies, so society shouldn’t have to educate every student in the same way. Some student might not get flying score on mathematics but good at arts, which is normal, so we shouldn’t have categorise whether the student is intelligent by just looking on their scores.

 Moreover, I think educator should focus more on cultivating on what are they thinking, in order to cultivate their self-confidence and creativity. I would like to bring out my own experience which is common in Asian country. Usually when relatives visit us, their first topic to start off will be their kids and follow by how the score they get during their final. On the other hand, I am quite surprise when I further my study here in Australia, parents here are more concern about how their children goes in school whether they happy or not, which I personally think that is better because it won’t hurt children’s self-esteem and self-confidence. Furthermore, it can influence students with good results to be egotistical. In my opinion, the way we educate student is far more important than we think, we should focus on how they think rather than how much they score. Problems can be solved as long as your children are happy. The more the society understand children's mind, the more benefit we will get in our future.

My first thought of Creativity and Innovation

The first word that pops in my mind when I think of Creativity and Innovation is “Courage”. The inventor must have the courage to present his/her product in front of the the target audience. By not knowing how they would think of it, whether it is a master piece or it’s just an useless invention. In my opinion I think that an inventor must have a different line of thinking compared to normal people, so that they could invent a product that others have not thought of. These people are an asset to our world because they have passion and they try their best to take their first step to contributing to the world by building a tangible object that benefits us all. Before entering this unit (Creativity and Innovation) I really have no idea how this unit can be related to my major (Accounting and Finance) but after stepping in to the workshop I realise that Creativity and Innovation are the basics of mostly everything. Everything you see or touch and the design are all from someone’s thoughts and meticulous planning. For example, simple everyday objects and places such as computers, cars, internet, houses, shopping malls, drawings and many more they are all created by great people.

Besides that, in twenty first century the main concern of every organisation whether big or small they are more interested to find someone who has creative and innovative thinking than anything else. By having innovated and creative workers the organisation is two times more successful than other competitors because they have different and unique ideas, besides using the old way to sell the product they came out with a creative way to attract the potential buyers to purchase their product. For example, facial masks are what  ladies would need to use in their skin care routine but since there are thousand of brand out there selling masks, what makes the brand stand out that could attract consumer to purchase your products. A creative thinker could come up with a creative idea that can  help make their brand stand out. They release a series of mask where they decide to print different animal faces on the masks, each different animal represents a different type of functions. This helps their masks to look attractive and make their product different from other brands. Besides changing the ingredient of the mask they make their mask even attractive. Organisations are bound to be more successful when they make their brand stand out from others though creative and innovative thinking.
