very true. it's frequently "messing with your hormones is yucky! hormonal birth control isn't the only way!!" and then absolutely no genuine follow-up or information about other available alternatives. just sowing fear about the concept in general.
i will never, NEVER act like (hormonal) birth control doesn't have its major problems both in the physical sense (side effects, pain management during implantations, being prescribed as a handwaved panacea by physicians for all sorts of health issues, etc.) and in how the burden of responsibility for its use is often unfairly distributed
but the sheer amount of anti-birth control propaganda being force fed on tiktok/youtube shorts/etc. right now (often sold under the guise of wellness and "living cleanly/naturally") is so chilling to me
especially with all of the weird ass pressure about (white) birth rates coming from politicians/billionaires right now as well as the general trajectory of reproductive rights and women's rights in the united states
#like there absolutely are ppl out there where hormonal bc is not a compatible solution for their body#but that is not really the aim of these messages#its fear mongering of medicine in general and hormone-based medicine#(and there is absolutely bleedover there into OTHER things like hrt)#but i did want to focus this post specifically on bc
