Project Statement - Story
- For my project on story my idea was to look at the story told through my favourite song ‘Between the Bars’ by Elliott Smith.
-In this song Smith personifies alcohol as it talks to him, telling him how it will allow him to forget about lifes pressures all he needs to do is listen to his addiction and keep drinking. The “bars” he continues to reference throughout the song are a metaphor for the bars of a prison cell alcohol holds him in as he is never free of his addiction.
-Due to the subject matter of this song being about alcohol addiction I have decided to explore this idea by telling the story of the song through the action of drinking. I have done this by basing each look in my six look lineup off of different objects involved in the process of drinking: corkscrew, wine cork, glass, wine, wine bottle, whiskey bottle.

Looks one, two and three from my six look lineup. I’ve decided to tell the story of the song I am basing my project off of by using objects used while drinking as inspiration for each one of my looks.
For look one I used a corkscrew as inspiratipn, then for look two I continued the journey using a wine cork by covering the cork in marker and rolling it over the look to create a pattern and for look three I used a bottle of wiskey as inspiration by using the bubbles caused by the liquid to create a pattern.

As I have based my project off of alcoholism due to the subject matter of the song I am following the story of, I did some research on fashion designers and their collaborations with alcohol brands.

Final sketches before deciding on my final six looks. For two of my looks I was practicing making designs by mimicking the shapes in the shadows of wine bottles, for a third I used spilt wine as inspiration and for anothor look I used wine corks as inspiration and coated one in marker and pressed it onto the fashion sketch see what it would look like as a print for one of my looks.
