Multiples brief finished piece, I had intended for my finished piece to contain much more leaves but due to glazing difficulties several pieces ended up broken.

Multiples brief
Development
My main aim of this project was to make something that showed our connections to nature. I decided to do this through the structural similarities between lungs and leaves.
I decided that using sprig moulds was the best way to produce a large volume of work, I made various moulds but eventually decided that using natural leaves was the best way to produce beautiful textures and delicate ceramic pieces.

Hand building process
I'm really enjoying this process so far, I've mostly been building from slab rolls and drawing a lot of inspiration from nature.

Today I smoothed the pieces from yesterday and also added handles, very happy with the usual design of these pieces and can't wait to bisque fire them and try out some of my glaze ideas on these.

Week 2 on the wheel, I'm still struggling with pulling height but in sure that will come in time. This week I just enjoyed the process of seeing what shapes I could make for the main body and spouts, trying trying work with the faults to create unique items.

First day using the wheel, mostly trying to learn how to centre the clay and how to pull the clay up, its a quiet difficult technique, it's going to take a lot of practice but really enjoying the process so far.

Plaster mould making
Some more photos of the mould making process, it's a very slow process but I'm enjoying learning this new skill. Next to pour liquid clay into my mould, leave for about 40 minutes and pour the remaining clay out leaving me with a hallow form I can't wait to c the finished result l.

First glaze test
I'm struggling a bit with the chemistry and calculations but I'm really enjoying the process. For my first try I decided to make a crater glaze following a receipt I found on glazy, and added various colorants to the mixture. It's a bit messy but overall I'm happy with the result

Story project statement
Everything you can imagine is real
The minute I heard the word story I taught about my grandad and the amazing stories he used to tell us as children. He loved to pretend he was tarzan and our local park was filled with wild animals and mystical creatures. I decided to base my project around these stories, but I also wanted to include his artistic side of hand carving pipes. I've very happy with what I've achieved in this project and feel that everything fits together nicely.
I began by taking photos around my local park, I changed them in photoshop to give them a more magical effect. I then printed them off and collaged different animals and creatures into the images. I then chopped up these images and used them in some 3d objects I made. I also created a fairy from wire and a pipe placed inside a flower from clay.
But my favourite creation from this term is a series of animal and mystical creature pipes i made using air drying clay.
