the earlier painting i mentioned really inspired me and wanted to try for a similar effect. so i painted this piece on a board using guache. i usually stick to realistic and referenced paintings so i was really out of my comfort zone but i found it actually very calming. i tried to make the flowing lines resemble a sort of underwater scene where plants and corals are flowing in all directions thanks to the current.

i saw this painting online while i was scrolling and i felt it really fit in with my theme of water movement in an abstract sense. as i have been looking at mostly realistoc visuals of water, i hadn’t thought to consider fluidity in a less realistic sense

made a mini scenery of a stream in clay today. i will be painting it next week
i dont really like this piece as i feel i worked too much on it to the point where there was too much going on but i will finish it regardless and keep in mind that my piece doesnt need to look crowded to convey a foresty scene

i also continued my fascination with waves and the foam that gathers through that movement

today i worked more on the motion of waves from a photo i took when i was at the beach. i really wanted to capture the shine from the sun and direction of the water. next time i want to experiment with flowing water wether it be from a tap, stream or thrown into the air from a bucket.

lastnight i took a slowmotion video on my phone of me lighting a cigarette. i wanted to experience how smoke would behave and capture it in a quick oil pastel piece

i wasn’t able to go into any workshops this week but i started exploring the idea of wave movement and so i did a quick oil pastel and acrylic piece.

for this semester’s theme “movement” i did a mind map of some of the ideas that first poped into my head. im thinking of focusing in on the movement of the ocean such as waves and creatures in the sea. im also interested in the aspect of smoke and the movement of it as it disperses into the air. with those two in my mind i gravitated towards natural disasters such as tsunamis and tornadoes and how they move about to come together.
