Thoughts on the project
From this project I reall got to learn about teamwork and the idea of working with people for an anaimation project. Although it was harder than what I expected I had a lot of fun creating the story with my team mates, I feel like we all grew a bigger bond with one another even if we struggled to communicate at times but I learned thats all a apart of team projects there can be a lot of struggle but I feel I really got to have fun with my team in the end.
Team Leader: I found this role very tough as I feel I am not a great person to assign people roles as I usually like to be the one assigned them but something I learned from this project is that I had to go out of my comfort-zone to try help our team to get things done. I feel I got better in the end even though it took me a while to get used to it
I found the hard work paid off in the end when we won the pitch, so im really proud of myself and the team after our efforts even if we didnt think we had a chance of winning

Final Presentation
Last Friday I was team leader.
After getting a presentation about pitching and what we should include in our pitch, I knew as team leader that I should asign roles for my team members for the day as Friday was our final day to get everything done as a group before the weekend and I knew it was vital to get everything prepared before we leave.
Our group decided to start a presentation where we would layout ideas and pictures and get an idea of what we were going to present together, I gave each of my memebers a section to prepare for Monday for example: Naomi landscape, Hlib character design and myself aesthetics and prop design. I tried to make sure to ask for their ideas and opinions too and to keep our roles for the presentation fair and even for the day.
That evening at home I created an updated version of the powerpoint we made earlier. I tried to keep it clean, concise and cohesive, writing out extra text and adding more photos to my section as well as creating backgrounds and headers fit the theme of our presentation and make it look interesting to the viewers and to sell our idea even more by making the powerpoint visually intersting.
Here are the slides:
I decided that Hlibs planet drawing should be the opening slide as it really shows what Jack and Jill is about and once again it creates visual interest

Animatic
After the line work and colour were added
I created an animatic
Using the programme ..... I made an animatic, I added transitions as well as movements such as zooming in and panning to make the story flow better and feel more animated and real.
Music:
I then added music at the beginning. Paul recommended that we find a song that would include western and modern elements since our story is a futuristic western, it would tie in perfectly.
So I ended up finding the song- Unforgiven by Le Sserafim
The band sampled 'The Good, The Bad The Ugly' the made a musical fusion of modern pop music mixed with Western elements
I chose to only add the instrumental part so it wouldn't be distracting
youtube
I also added the song from The Good, The Bad The Ugly to create suspense and a classic western feel to the animatic.
youtube
Sound effects:
I chose to add a few sound effects here and there to create better sense of story telling:
- Such as a real western shot sound effect
- Metal ping
- An alarm sound effect sample from the StarWars
- And a car crash sound
Anamtic One Minute Version

Final Storyboard
We were told to create a final Storyboard that would be in the style and colour of our animation reference- Invincibles.
To make the shots look clean and in the same style the whole way through we decided to split the work into; sketches, line art and colour.
I got the job of sketching the storyboards, we decided to do this traditionally, I drew the sketches onto A4 sheets of paper that were split in two.
I made sure I drew the characters how we created them making sure to add all the details and keeping in mind the invincibles style.
To help me do this I made sure to have photo reference in front of me when sketching the storyboards, wether it be our characters or the invincible characters as well as angles and facial expressions they made so it could look more like the style.

Here are some of my sketches before line art:

Design for the project : Jack and Jill
[Part 2]
Props(The design of the space ship):
In addition to the character I wanted to design a spaceship where the main characters leave the planet at the end, and before I came up with the design I thought that paper aeroplanes look pretty futuristic.

I asked my tutor to make a paper aeroplane for me. Then I took a piece of paper and repeated the same way the tutor made paper aeroplanes and glued two small versions of the aeroplanes on the back and the front.

I then used the 3d model as a reference for the design. I really like how the ship turned out sharp and emphasises its unusual triangular shaped aircraft parts.
I found this experience working for the project very fun and rewarding, there were loads of opportunities to learn new things.

Creating prop designs from my research
from the prop research I did earlier, we each created a prop design from this research, I made the robotic horse design:

From my research and using reference of a real horse I came up with this robotic futuristic horse.
I used elements from Star wars Mandalorian TV show to come up with design features on my horse, for example the jaw and shoulder rotators as well as tech wires I used on its neck.
Here are other peoples prop designs based off of the research:

Zine: Jack and Jill
For the project, I still had to make a small version of the magazine that says everything about animation.

I decided to make a little collage about the design of our project. The first spread is about storyboard and locations where everything happens

The second spread is about character design, I was doing Jack's design and decided to put in his and everything that inspired me to design him.

And the last pages are refoins and more things that inspired and were used for the aesthetics of the project.

ZIne Workshop
During the week we got to attend a zine workshop where we could check out the art of folding and book making, it was super interesting how to create different type of books, I ended up making book made from one sheet of A3 paper. It was a great experience I had a lot of fun making it.
I added what my work from start to finish onto each page showing my progress as it goes along
I'm happy with my zine although the page got mixed up!

Jill's Character Design
We decided that we would each make a character. for example two people created Jill and two created Jack, we would then pick our favourite elements from each character to make our final character designs.
I decided to make a Jill character design. Since our reference animation is 'invincibles' I tried to incorperate design features that are similar to the Invincibles style.
To create Jill, I decided to create a character turn-around, I found a female character from the cartoon and used her as reference for my own.
Fashion:
I already had an idea for the outfit since my team had looked up the fashion from western movies such as mad max and the good, the bad the ugly etc. So I came up with a style for her.
Yvonne reccommneded me to list out what materials her clothes would be and keep in mind what on her outfit would be functional to her environment. So I took these ideas into account.
Materials:
Cotton blouse for breathability in the desert puffed sleeves for feminine style
Waist coat light-weight linen
Khaki pants functional for adventure and camolauge
Stetson 'cowboy hat' wide rim to keep out sunlight
Holster for her pistol and belt

Below you can see the fashion research that I took inspiration from
Before I created the characters final face I went through a couple of ideas before deciding on this.....

As I said earlier I wanted to keep the style of Invincibles, as you can see, for Jills braid I kept it simple with sharp edged shapes to give the illusion of a plait. I also kept her whole outfit simple with a few details here and there to make her more interesting.
Final Drawing with line art
At this point we decided to change the shoes as I took elements from Naomi's character design to make them more functional for the character.

Colours:
We decided to keep the colours in a similar colour palate
Burgundy waist coat colour feminine touch
Khaki pants suitable for camouflage
Grey boots

Action Poses:
Although I didn't draw many action poses for the character I did when making the final story board

Design for the project : Jack and Jill
[Part 1]
Location:
For the project, I created a location design from two storyboard frames. The first one is a rusty desert planet and the desert itself. All the inspiration I took from the animation Invisible.
Inspiration( From the Invisible artbook):

Character Design:
The most interesting and most exciting part of the process is creating the character. In the team we agreed that we would split into two people, two people would design Jill and the other two participants would design Jack. At the end there will be a vote on whose design will be the final one. And so I designed Jack, I was inspired by old cowboy toys and their style so I tried to combine those toys and the style of Invisible.

Peer Group Project 18/04/24
Research Gathering and Mood board creation and choosing the Style for Animation piece and Drawing an Interpretation of the Storyboard
Research Gathering:
Me and My Group Gathered all our research from aesthetics ,background, props, character Design Research, technology. We printed and stuck up all our research on the wall with Masking tape. We gathered this information to get ideas on how to create our world in the story we made from informed research to know what are world would look like realistically and so we would have all the Research in One place .We did by looking at images Online and in books to get references to what the story could look like
My Research On Location:Desert

Rest of the Groups Research:

Mood board Creation :
One of the people in my group made a mood board on digital programme. this was created to use as a reference for the colour palette for our future Animated piece.
Moodboard created by other member of Group:

Choosing an Animation Style:
We individually researched an Animation Style we liked and voted which style we liked the most to use for our story. We did this so we could decide on which to use an animation style appropriate to the story. We decided as a group TV show invincible animation style .
My Research on Aesthetics: Animation Style:

Jack and Jill. Group project
After the storyboard was ready, everyone had to draw two frames from it. Preferably repeating the style and aesthetics of the animation that was chosen. We collectively chose Invisible

I drew the first two frames from the storyboard, the solution was to draw everything digitally. Invisible's animation style, the backgrounds are very ditalised. You can compare it to Disney animations where you can see what will move and what won't, and the same was done in Invisible.
The first shot, approaching the planet and the second showing an overhead view of the rusty desert landscape.

Thursday and Friday 18th-19th March:
These days I was the group leader and we were asked to find relevant research for our project. We each were given a component to focus on, I was looking at character design/fashion, Naomi was looking at landscapes and backgrounds, hlib was creating the animatic for our group from our storyboard and aoife was looking at prop design.
We then had to hang up all of our images on the wall in the hallway.
We then had to decide on an animation style we wanted to use for this project, we settled on the invincible style, I then made a mood board to help us forward. This is composed of character designs, background, colour schemes and some prop examples.

We then did two scenes of our storyboard each to be more refined and coloured in and in the style we chose.

On Friday we started creating character designs, we split the idea by two people doing one character and the other two the other character. This is my line drawing for my design of jack so far.

Animation References and Research
Our group decided to reference the style aesthetics of the 'Invincibles' Tv show, as the style is simple yet well rounded in my opinion, with basic cell shading and more detailed backgrounds.
We all thought the style and character design would easily fit the theme of our story well as there are many robotic and futuristic character designs. We also noticed that a few scenes or settings had similar atmospheres to our world, so we thought we could take colour inspiration from the show too.
Here is a moodboard one of my team made, it shows a good look into the character design, backgrounds and overall aesthetics which we were inspired by.

Storyboarding:
Each of us worked on our own story board from the script created from the combination of all our group scripts. I made my own individual storyboard from the script. I did this by drawing simple sketches in different camera angles of my characters and landscapes to create the world and characters in it using pencils to create the story. After I finished creating my own story board . We combined all our own interpretation of the story from our own storyboards . We combined all elements of each storyboard by discussing which elements of each storyboard suited the story to create our final storyboard for our story.

Story Boards:
After redesigning our storyboard ideas, we were told to create a bigger and more detailed scenes from the board. Our group decided to give eachother 2 scenes that we would recreate in more detail and using 'Invincibles' as a reference for the aesthetic of our style.
As you can see below, I created a scene in which Jack and Jill are having a stand-off, I wanted to include the flatter cell shading like 'Invincibles' as well as character style when creating this story board.

I want to mention that Paul and Yvonne advised us when creating story boards that location and camera angles are really important to create a visually interesting and understandible animation.
We were recommended to draw two sections from our storyboard that we make detailed and in colour so that's what I did here:
