Personal Statement

After finishing the elective project today I am happy with the electives I choose as I learned so much from them which will benefit me in the future.

I am proud of the work I produced and I had so much fun making these art piece as I focused on my concept development and choose a theme I had interest in, as I learned this from my last project once you have an interest in something you will be more productive.

As I am in B.Ed we did loose out on the Thursdays in LSAD which we lost out on some of the activities the general art got up to but I produced as much as I could and overall I am very happy with how my project went.

Ceramics Week 6:

Week 3rd-7th of march

Today i decided to go to the photography studio and make a stop motion of the bed i created in ceramics I wanted to do this to show movement on how messy my bed can get during pre drinks through the movement of people socialising as they throw and move things on my bed.

I really liked how this worked and it really showed movement which I’m happy with.

Today I got my clay pieces from the kiln,

I was extremely happy with how my pieces came out I love the texture I added and how I used great colours to create tone and depth in my piece.

I like how the acrylic paint created a great wooden affect

I don’t really like the acrylic paint on the blanket as it makes it look very rough instead of soft but it was good to see the comparison

Today we started to glaze our pieces that we underglazed yesterday

I enjoyed this process as it’s quick instead of painting the whole object with glaze like the underglaze

Today I glazed my pieces, I found that when I put the mattress in the glaze that with the detail the glaze did not go into the space so therefore I let the glaze dry and then added glaze to the pieces with a paint brush.

As I used my hand to dip the pillows in my finger prints were on the sides of the pillows so I also used a paint brush to fill in these spaces

These were my pieces I had glazed and put down to the kiln to get fired

I started to paint the rest of my clay pieces, I found the process of using acrylic paint was much easier and quicker as I could see how they are going to looked when finished unlike the pieces that had the underglaze colour

These were the pieces i decided to paint instead of glazing

I choose these as the bed is wooden so I felt like acrylic paint gave a better wooden affect than glaze would, I choose the blanket to be painted as well as I think it would be nice to see the difference of the duvet and the blanket together and I did the rest of the things in paint as I thought If I was to do the stop motion it would be better as there would be no white patches.

I decided to start off glazing with my duvet, I started with a pin then did a bring red on the creases for a better affect.

As we had to fill the kiln with everyone’s pieces I didn’t want to do all my pieces as it wasn’t fair not giving space to other people as of this i decided to pick the pieces that would be on show the most, I also choose the shot glass and I would love to see if the glaze will make a big difference between the objects.

Today we opened the kiln and got our clay pieces.

As all of my pieces came out of the kiln with no cracks or blew up I now know I constructed them correctly and made holes where I needed to.

Week 24th-28th of February

Today I made a mattress I love how this turned out I love the texture of this, it looks realistic.

I made things that be on my bed during pre drinks so I could do a stop motion to show movement of how my bed gets messy through the movement of pre drinks

This was all the parts I made of my bed and I took them down to the kiln to be fired so I will be able to glaze them next week.

Ceramics Week 5:

Week 24th-28th of February

Today we started with clay and we were playing around with different types of patterns, i decided to make my bed at pre drinks as there bes loads of things thrown on my bed during pre drinks which I think shows great movement.

We started off my rolling out a slab of clay using to sticks at each end so the slab was even.

I then cut off the rough edges and started doing a pattern, I wanted my bed to look realistic so I got fabric and crunched up the fabric and rolled it over the top of the clay to give it that look of a pillow case.

I then got the shape of the pillow by adding some blue roll to the inside of the clay and then adding a hole so they won’t blow up in the kiln

I then did the same process with the duvet, to get the shape right I got a plaster cast that was rectangular and placed the clay on top of it and then molded it into what way I wanted it.

I then wanted to make a texturised blanket so I decided to use a sponge and place the slab of clay on top of it then placing a sheet of fabric on top, I pressed the stick down and made a pattern.

This was the result of using the sponge. I am glad I tried something new as now I know what kinda texture you can get from using a sponge
