Finished panels
The masking tape border and the size of each square made them look like polaroids, so i ditched the film strip idea (especially with time restrictions)
Each photo was taken with my hybrid camera that I only got halfway through the school year. Exploring photography and new cameras was a big thing for me this year, especially with all the great people and experiences to capture.

"Failed" experiment

The plaster cracked, I doubt this would have occurred if I had used the wood board. However, I would prefer to use sand/flour mixed into acrylic paint as it is more plasticky compared to the brittle plaster.

I would like to reference this artist for my big wooden board painting of the tree.
I really admire the use of boosted colour, optical mixing, this application of paint, use of texture and pallette knives.

Morning studio session
Cut stuck and stained card
Primed/Stained wooden board
Began marking out images on card
Idea for card - film strips based on early painting
Idea for board - realistic depiction of tree in front of the college

Spray paint on cardboard. Wanted to use wood/mdf boards, but the material store was closed due to the conference. Wood would have been better for vibrancy and sticking. The cardboard absorbed any moisture, leaving the colours darker than planned. This could be avoided by priming it beforehand.

happy accidents

Overall, I was happy with how this piece went. The spray painting links into the smoking area. The poster shows who I was before art college, referencing posters in the smoking area, such as taras missing ring poster.

Further experimentation - using plaster to add structure. I will see how this does when dry after the easter break. Might be a case of adding sand or flour to acrylic to thicken it up enough to nearly sculpt.

Experiment in progress based off of previous tests

Thick application of paint with the intention of applying spray paint to the sides once dry

Dry the next day
The paint has shrunk once dry (to be expected)
I could experiment with plaster to bring it out more.

Tests
Two things I wanted to do practice more was the swirling and thick application of paint.
I used leftover acrylic paint donated by people in the room cleaning their pallets.
The two landscape strips are based on the reflections of birds in the college windows, the swirls still showing memories or expectations. Reflection seems like a great way to communicate memories - not quite there, not real, fleeting, and sometimes distorted.
The acetate seems great for thick paint as it's sturdier. I'd like to make a small piece on acetate that uses thick paint enough to draw out the image, bringing a sculptural aspect to it. It would be fun to use spraypaint on various sides so that the colour is almost shifting.

Origionally planned to experiment with thick paint on cling film, stapled it to cardboard for support. I tore it off the roll, so when I went to staple it, it happened to look exactly like a plastic bag.
I filled the "plastic bag" with my college bag essentials:
journal and pen, headphones, birdseed, beloved PlayStation wallet, vape and juice, sunnies, powerbank and wires, flowers, and of course, my heart sits at the bottom of my bag. I carry it around with me, and it collects all the dust and loose change.
The bag didn't fill the cardboard, but I liked the format, so I added my green shoulder bag to fill space and also show where everything goes !
Every persons bag is different and this is mine! Lsad anew!

Group Work
putting the pieces together was fun!
incorporating aspects of each into the backing so it matched the parts stuck on

The finished result

Group work
We each worked separately with our shared prompt of the church gallery.
I do better with people and narratives, so I chose to portray the poetry society meetings helf there on a monday, and the painting showcases from the later years in painting.
Happy with these, originally planned an accurate portrayal of the poetry soc meetings but since my heart isnt in it I had no enthusiasm to. I went for expression instead. Realistic would have felt taxing, just for the sake of it. Why paint something for the sake of it when the art of photography exists. Taking a brilliant image would be much more rewarding.

Two more fluid pieces on my experience of LSAD.
I finally took the initiative to make my dream of owning a camcorder and digital camera come true - it has been wonderful. I'm grateful to have been able to document moments of my college life both on and off campus. I love the look of film rolls as probably seen from my previous pieces. I do own a film camera, the film actually getting developed is yet to be seen.

I started buying myself flowers in january. Recieving flowers is one of the highest acts of love in my eyes, but I could never ask for them. I have been given roses before, and I'll keep them in my heart forever. While in TUS counselling, my counsellor made the great point.
"Just because you can't get xyz from that place or person doesn't mean you should go without"
It was in a completely different context but it made sense to me that I shouldn't ever go without my favourite acts of love and that I shouldn't rely on or expect only someone else to do those things for me. I go to my flourist, and they help me make a bouquet once a month.
I take care of myself for myself, but also for those I love.
