my final showcase for lsad anew
overall i’m really happy with the work i’ve done and my showcase. initially i planned to put up my series of the reworked posters but after talking to slyvia, i realised it’d be better to include in my sketchbook work. instead i put up my live model drawings. one of them was cut out as i was planning to put it up with the posters and if looked better cut out as the contrast of the white paper was really out of place. however now, i wish i hadn’t cut it or i wish i had better live model drawings. i like majority of the live model drawings i did but i didn’t feel like it was on the same level as the other work.
i’m particularly happy about how the acetates look. they are slightly hanging which casts a shadow on the wall which adds to the piece i think. these and my cherub are my favourite pieces that i made in this project.
i also have my sketchbook on display which isnt seen in the photo

john stezaker poster pt.4
i wasn’t sure what to do for the last one until i saw this black and white poster that reminded me of john stezaker. i took the car that was behind the woman and overlayed it over the woman. i liked the concept for this

stanley whitney style on a poster pt.3
i really enjoyed doing this one the most. i like how the colours interact each other . i don’t think it perfectly represents whitneys style but my piece is a more so inspiration of his work.

pt 2. influence from cecily brown.
i specifically like her optical illusion skulls so i wanted to do something similar. it’s not readable as a poster anymore but i really enjoyed doing this one.

i wanted to make a series of small a5 paintings based of posters in the school. i was getting tired of my previous concept with lights and shadows so i wanted to experiment with something else for my last pieces. i rendered this poster in elaine spears style. i really like how it came out. i messed up with the writing but i don’t mind. i really enjoyed doing this

live model painting
today the live model was slightly different. the model was clothed and an intense red light. this was interesting to paint due to the harsh contrast between light and shadows. we made thumbnails on our board before starting we also used complementary colours. i chose red and green. sylvia recommended to put a slight red into the green too. i wish my red was so much more brighter. when it’s alone it almost appears orange or brow. thankfully when it was paired with yellow and brown paintings my piece appears more red. i think i messed up with proportions a bit but i’m still happy with it

gross alex

i really like surrealism. i found this artist on pinterest when i was just scrolling. this artist specifically reminded me of neo rauch, who includes lots of elements in his work. gross alex works similarly

i was really drawn into the artists visible brushstrokes and abstraction, something that i want to try and work more like. her colour palette is quite gorgeous too. i really like how each piece compliments each other

2nd part of the painting, highlights edition
i decided to keep the painting layers thin for the highlights, so it’s not as intense as the shadows.
i think it looks interesting.
i paired it with the shadows painting and paired them in different ways to see how they interact. i like the second pairing the best as i feel like it looks like the complete work.

i’ve been doing scrapbooking for fun (last 3 images are some examples) so i decided to attempt to do a collage of the college . i included the photo of what i was trying to make. it’s not fully readable as to what it is meant to be but that’s what i like about collages.
i also wanted to attempt collaging in this project due to john stezakers work

painting of the elimination of shadows from an image on acetate.
this is based on an idea ive posted about previously. i painted only the harsh shadows that could be seen. i decided to do it on acetate as i plan to do a second verison with only the highlights and i want to have the ability to layer them together to create almost the whole image. another reason behind the acetate, whenever you flip it the image always look so interesting from the behind. i kind of prefer it on the opposite side.
for the colours i used only the primaries and created darks from the mix of all of them. i really love how the branches and trees came out , im very proud of this work. initially i didnt like it but flipping it on the other side makes it look so much nicer as you dont see the layers and texture from the acrylic paint.
the trees remind me of elizabeth magills work.

gouache painting from live model session
i really like this painting the most compared to the other ones i did in this session. i used yellows and ornages in the skin tone and it came out really nice i think. i also like how i was able to mimic the hair with my brush. it adds a cool texture to the painting.

gouache and charcoal
i did some regular sketches in charcoal at the very start of rhe session for a warm up. after using the oil pastels and poscas i decided to do some painting too. i really enjoyed using gouache as you can use it similarily to watercolour or acrylic. inspired by my other colour drawings i wanted to continue to try and use lots of "unconventional" colours in the skin tones.
i posted my favourite painting i did in this session in a seperate post.
