One thing i really like about abbott elementary is that they didn't stretch Avas incompetence as a principal across the seasons just for comic relief. They had her take classes to obtain the background necessary for her position and i appreciate that so much!
Because it shows once again how capable Black women are, and that ignorance isnt a necessity/prerequisite for comedy. Ava is still funny, just a little🤏🏾 less wild and less insecure about her own skills.

ava taking barbara out on little dates, doing all the small romantic things like opening doors for her, pulling her chair out for her, giving her flowers, all the little things that gerald just doesn't do anymore, not because he doesn't love her anymore, not because he's a bad husband, but because they've been married for 30+ years, and he just doesn't see her anymore. doesn't see her as just as woman, but as his wife, as the mother of his children. ava sees her as just barbara, not a wife, not a mother, not a teacher. just a woman to be courted and spoiled.

the way the war in gaza has been constantly about targeting flour, targeting hospitals, targeting universities, targeting water containers, targeting anything that brings life in order to "thin out the population" and "encourage palestinians to move to tent cities in egypt"
and then you have western media readily calling it a "humanitarian crisis" therefore fulfilling israel's goal of manufacturing a humanitarian crisis. this entire war was with the purpose of collectively punishing a civilian population of 50% children. that's why it was immediately understood and labelled as a genocide by multiple genoide scholars, by the lemkin institute, and is currently on trial for genocide at the hague
like the starvation and the blocking of aid and the dropping of parachuted MREs to just barely salvage the reputation of a few politicians is not a byproduct of the war. it's not collateral damage. it is a central pillar of the genocide. acquiescing to israelis blocking aid by building ports and dropping pallets of food means acquiescing to famine as a strategy instead of trying to stop it. famine is not collateral damage, it is a central pillar of genocide. killing children is not collateral damage. it is a central pillar of the genocide. we don't need hindsight to say this plainly, anyone who denies it now is another pillar of genocide.

writers don’t have execute something 100% perfectly for them to have intentionally written a character a specific way in order to convey a message. does that make sense? like feel like this critique is just anti-intellectual at best, sometimes the curtain are blue for a reason even if the writer missed the mark

They bombed a hospital. No one intervened. So they bombed the rest.
They killed civilians and hostages waving white flags. No one intervened. So they did it on live TV.
They murdered starving people at an aid convoy. No one intervened. So they've attacked at least 3 more.
Israel is currently attacking the Al Shifa hospital in northern Gaza (March 18) with tanks and heavy gunfire, resulting in an increasing number of casualties and abductions including journalists who were reportedly severely beaten and taken to an unknown location.
Israel is literally relishing in its impunity. All we have been hearing from those in power is "concerns" and pathetic words of condemnation while Israel continues to boast about its atrocities, six months on.

The way they use hair and makeup for story telling in abbott is top tier
In this recent ep (03x05) Barbara’s bold lipstick is insulted by sister sloss (I hate you sister sloss) and she reacts by covering her lips.

Then the rest of the episode she wears neutral lipstick colours.

It’s such a detail but tells you so much about how Barb internalises what those women say and how she wants to fit in and be respected by and be good enough for them.

my favorite abbott characters from least to most and why:
- mr. johnson
he’s funny, but he reminds me of my hotep uncles and i don’t need a reminder that men like that exist
- melissa
she’s a great character but her character works the least with a mockumentary sitcom because she’s so closed off, we get the fewest amount of vulnerable moments with her. plus her storyline with gary could’ve given us more tbh.
- jacob
he’d be higher if he hadn’t have broken up with zach 😒. he really balances the ensemble out, low key the best buffer for all the characters. i like the relationship he develops with the other characters, on their own none of them stand out, but he is the glue that keeps everyone together.
- gregory
i honestly hate gregory in reference to him and janine, if he wasn’t so real and relatable he’d be lower. i like how weird he is and how everyone around him is just like “yeah that’s gregory, he’s weird, we like him”. from one weirdo to the next he truly speaks to me.
- janine
i truly have nothing bad to say about janine, she is probably the most baby girl character to ever exist, she is my baby. she’s had the most character development, and she tries so hard like how can you not love her and want her to win??? now if she only learned to leave dusties alone (sorry gregory)
- ava
my wife’s wife, my girlfriend’s girlfriend, the only woman id ever let cuck me. she’s also had really good character development. low key wish her smart era lasted longer, it was so funny. im hope we see her interact with her sorority and i hope they dive more into the elitism in those circles.
- barbara
sheryl could literally walk on my screen and id cry. she is THE moment and THAT lady. she has the second most character development but i do feel like some of her development keeps getting repeated. like she’s already done the insecure about getting old thing, but if that’s gonna be like her thing, then i get it.
