So I have read several people complaining that they can't be expected to know the "unwritten rules" of fandom. So here's what I wish people knew:
Fanfiction is fiction.
Fictional people are not real.
Fictional people do not have rights.
Fictional people cannot be abused.
Reading or writing about something does not mean the desire to do or support it in the real world.
If I find art upsetting/triggering/disgusting/outraging/unpleasant/squicky/distressing/offensive, it is on me not to read it, not the creators and hosts to remove it.
Curate your own experience. The back buttons exist for a reason.
If you don't trust yourself to do that, get someone you trust to do it for you.
Fandom is an adult space. Adults create and own and host fandom spaces. If minors want to participate, then the onus is on them and their parents/guardians/trusted adults to ensure they participate appropriately, not on strange adults to stop being adults.
You often don't know the assault status or mental health status or neurotype or race or nationality or religion or gender or sexuality or age of a creator or consumer, and they do not have to disclose to you to justify their fantasy.
AO3 is not a safe space. It is not intended to be a safe space. Proceed accordingly.
Just because you don't like something or find it offensive doesn't mean it is a "problem" that "has to be dealt with".
Most characters in anime are not white.
There is no onus on you to reblog or share anything.
Everyone makes mistakes in fandom and is less than their best self sometimes.
Persistent pseudonyms encourage long term relationships.
Ship wars are stupid.
Someone else enjoying things does not impact on your own enjoyment of other things.
Tagging and warning is a courtesy, not a requirement. Assume any fic might contain untagged content.
Rating is an imprecise art, not a science.
Don't hassle IP creators.
Most people who are in fandom are hoping to make connections based on a shared passion.
Trying to profit from transformative fanworks puts us all at risk.
No one is obligated to share your head canon or fanon.
Being kind rarely fails to pay off.
It is okay to block and remove people who make your experience unpleasant. You don't have to placate them. (Learn from my mistakes).
Britpicking is a good thing.
You don't have to justify why you like a canon/pairing/trope/kink. Sometimes navel gazing is fun, but you don't have an obligation to explain yourself, especially to strangers. I share the overwhelming desire to refute an unfair accusation, but the people accusing you are rarely doing so in good faith, so you're batting a losing wicket.
I'm not your Mum. (Well, okay, a very few of you can call me Mum or Mom, but if you are one of them you already know who you are ❤️)
If you aren't mature enough to take responsibility for your online experiences, you aren't mature enough to be in fandom spaces.

Ive only just read the recent chapter but if happens to aizawa in the next chapter I’m killing everyone in this room and then myself
Define room? I need to know if I am technically there.
And I would advise to jump into the manga and to channel all this energy into strangling Shigaraki.

I hope they survive and this will happen
let’s think about good things for a sec instead!
granted aizawa doesnt jump head first into this which he better fucking not, i think this will be the perfect opportunity for izuku to reveal ofa to him.
I’m feeling like there will be a “pause” in the fight sometime soon and heroes will regroup, both to heal those injured and to reorient themselves regarding the safety of citizens and students.
If aizawa ends up badly injured in this i think izuku will feel responsible for it and think he deserves a better explanation, which can lead to aizawa being let in on the secret. Or aizawa himself can reach out to izuku and ask the reason why he was the target, which probably is something endeavor will do himself if he survives.

Just severe injuries or quirkless is my new mantra
He can't die...
Imagine Mic's reaction. He has to see his two best friends die?? He has to live knowing the truth about Shirakumo's death AND aizawa dying???
What about Eri? Without Aizawa's quirk she becomes really dangerous...
I'm just hoping for a plot twist...
Just severe injuries or quirkless, please. Just severe injuries or quirkless, not dead, please horikoshi.

Can't wait to see it happen in the anime 🤣
So I saw this post by @gentrychild and even though I haven’t drawn or animated in forever I had to do it because I’m depressed over the manga and my coping mechanism is humor
i regret this very much

The Outbursts of Everett True was a comic strip that ran in papers from 1905 to 1927, wherein the aforementioned Everett True regularly beat the everliving shit out of rude people as a warning to anyone else who might consider being rude. Men have not only been taking up too much room on public transport for about as long as public transport has existed, but the people around them have been irritated about it for at least a hundred years. The next time someone tries to claim that manspreading is a false phenomenon, please direct them to this strip so that Everett True can correct their misconceptions with an umbrella upside the head.

An in-depth analysis of BNHA Season 1: Quirk discrimination goes even deeper than we thought.
Rewatching the subbed version of episode 4 specifically,
I noticed some VERY interesting wording behind what the background characters had to say about Midoriya after he revealed his Quirk to knock out the biggest robot on the field. I compared the anime’s wording to the Viz manga translation as well.
The first of the two major things that are made explicitly clear about the way people view Midoriya at this time is with regards to the line
If he had such a powerful Quirk, what kind of life did he live that made him so jumpy? (Anime subbed),
in the Viz manga, this line was translated as “what made him a scaredy-cat?” instead of “jumpy”

It’s implicitly possible that they did not consider the ‘life he lived’ as a cause for his timidness when they assumed he did not have a powerful Quirk, as if people with weak quirks were supposed to be timid by nature?
Perhaps it would be one thing if Midoriya was just shy & people were surprised by his timidness more-so because ‘people with powerful quirks are supposed to be confident,’ as opposed to ‘people with weak Quirks are supposed to be timid,’ (a slight but important difference). However, one background character specifically mentioned that Midoriya “flinches at the slightest touch.” flinching at the slightest touch is not normal, that kind of reaction is often learned. Why only suddenly consider ‘what kind of life did he live that made him so jumpy,’ or ‘how did he get to be a scaredy-cat’ after learning he has a powerful Quirk?
-
But the line that REALLY raised my eyebrows, was the last one.
There’s no mistaking that he’s an amazing guy (Anime sub)
He’s something special (Viz)

In both versions, they aren’t just referring to his Quirk, but him AS A PERSON.
Compare this to the way they were treating Midoriya before. He was being ridiculed & sneered at all day.
Yet it was the reveal of his QUIRK that caused a complete reversal of people’s attitudes towards him. The power of the Quirk alone did it, NOT a score or passing the test.

The manga faces seemed slightly crueler than the Anime for some shots.

-
Of course, nobody is rude to Midoriya anymore about his muttering, or obsessive note-taking, or even being jumpy & spazzy…
… but I have to wonder how different their attitudes towards his behavior would have been if he had a weak Quirk, or if he was still Quirkless.
This would not be the first time someone has been judged for their Quirk, or a combination of their Quirk and attitude. Take Aoyama for perhaps one of the subtler examples, & Shinsou for one of the more blatant examples.
Yet in episode 4, simply seeing the complete reversal of attitude towards the SAME person was very jarring. It really drives home how important power is in the world of My Hero Academia.

Here's The Thing...
[Apologies in advance for those who are offended by the following post.]
Most People: Aw, look at these boys! Their relationship has grown so much! Why can't people see that when the evidence is right in front of-
Me: ...
Most People: What?
Me: Nope, I don't want to start.
Most People: Oh come on, man! You're always whining about how their dynamic is "flawed" and "toxic" and all that. This is a really wholesome momen-
Me: Did you not read earlier in the chapter?
Most People: ...what?
Me: Earlier in the chapter. Just before this panel. Right after All Might revealed Nana's Quirk...
Most People: Oh, you mean their banter? Yeah, that was adora-
Me: Katsuki literally told Izuku he wasn't go to catch up. He persistently reiterated the idea that he was going to get better while Izuku would get left behind wasting his time.
Most People: Well, yeah, but that's just Katsuki's way of encourageme-
Me: Would you feel encouraged or insulted if you had just recently gotten your new Quirk ON TOP OF a surprise new Quirk in the span of less than a year and then someone else would say you were incapable of learning how to handle more Quirks?
Most People: But Izuku doesn't seem bother-
Me: What you don't know can't hurt you. You can have a problem and never acknowledge it.
Most People: But... but...
Me: And let's talk about the start of the chapter, hm? Katsuki has no obligation to be in the room despite being in on the secret, so he could really just leave any time he wants-
Most People: But All Might was wasting time!
Me: And Katsuki says they're wasting his time. Not Izuku's, not the group as a whole, just Katsuki. He could have still told All Might to move the conversation along without making it about himself, but he didn't do that. Do you know how unnecessary that is?
Most People: ...
Me: All Might then talks about how the users of One For All operated. How they all died early in their lives, how the weren't the best, but they were something. And what does Katsuki say?
Most People: ...
Me: He says they have lame Quirks. He calls them a bunch of nobodies. He just straight up disrespects what they've been through, opting to focus on how flashy they were instead of their actions, in a typical Katsuki fashion. This kid has seen Blackwhip, he knows how smart Izuku can be, and yet he's putting all that aside tp maintain his own ludicrous ego.
Most People: ...
Me: I already mentioned the banter that occured between Izuku and Katsuki, but once again: does Katsuki offer to help Izuku? Does he offer any constructive insight? Does he keep his mouth shut? No, no, and no. He opts to once again bolster his pride, and drag down Izuku's in the process. That panel up there? That's not "Friendship Goals." That's a boy trying to hold a civil conversation with a megalomaniacal egotist who's barely even trying to learn how to be a decent person. Izuku doesn't even flinch because he's dealt with this for about a decade. How exactly is their friendship great?
Most People: But... but Dad Might-
Me: All Might's no help here, either. He knows just as much about Izuku and Katsuki's past as anyone else. He's as in the dark as everyone else. And I doubt he had many friends of his own during childhood, unless David Shield and Nighteye count later down the line.
Most People: ...but... but didn't Izuku say that he never thought he could speak to Katsuki so naturally?
Me: So? Everyone else could talk to Katsuki just fine in spite of his garbage personality. Sure, it's special that Izuku did it, but it's not impossible. Besides, it's not like Katsuki's saying anything new or helpful back to Izuku.
Most People: But... but the Wonder Duo!
Me: No. I'm done. I already said too much, and you all aren't going to take me seriously anyway. I'm sorry if I'm offending you right now, but I'm just calling it like I see it. And what I'm seeing is that Katsuki still hasn't changed all that much in spite of it being almost a year. I'm seeing that you're using Izuku's protagonist status to justify that because he sees himself and Katsuki as friends, they are friends, even though in reality Izuku, like any other protagonist, is not right all the time or perfect all the time, and therefore his word should not be taken at face value. I'm seeing through All Might and most of the fandom that you'll be wearing your rose-tinted glasses and completely ignore a person's actions in favor of what you wish to see because the alternative is too uncomfortable or too difficult to process. I'm not seeing what everyone else is seeing and frankly, I don't want to.
Most People: ...
Me: Sorry for wasting your time. Carry on.
-Crimson Lion (19 January 2020)
