“--There you are!”

Kaia let out a squeal, when she found her sister among the crowds. She was far beyond excited to dragged her around the stands and hopefully, she’ll stay to watch the show with her.

she had never been to a circus or carnival before, and she could barely contain her excitement, eager to take in all of the sights and sounds. she didn’t even realize that in her gawking, she was totally blocking someone’s path. “ oh, i’m so sorry, am i in your way?  ”

Jack was sweltering beneath his heavy jacket, but even with the sun seeming to be particularly hot that day, he knew without it he would be too cold. Even so, it made the ice pop his eyes had locked onto any less inviting. He wished he had one—or a truckload. He was so focused on the heat, in fact, that he almost didn’t notice that the stranger had spoken.

“—What? Oh, yeah. It’s… something, alright. Brings a lot of tourists into town, that’s for sure.”

Kaia takes another bite from her ice pop. Her gaze fixated on the man at her side and tilted her head in his way. He is indeed dressed up for the occasion, which not so much for the weather when compared to her. She opted for a light a frilly dress, rather than the jacket he wears.

“--Ah! I love meeting new faces. Speaking of which, are you from here or are you a tourist?”

– Rowan grinned when he saw his friend, holding the bag out to her. He was always in a sharing mood, especially when it came to Kaia. “The sweets here look great, from what I can tell, the only one I know for sure is vegan is the cotton candy though, I’m a little wary going to anyone else. How’re the ice pops though?”

Kaia took the bag from his hand and grab a small piece of his cotton candy, admiring the vivid color before popping it into her mouth.

“--Refreshing. Did you know that this is my third one? It was undeniably warm these days and my friend, this is a perfect companion. Do you want some? I promise you, it’s vegan. I only go for the fruit flavors.”

this was it. isla had to tell her. “ the day you were born, i sang you to sleep with that song… “ isla remembered the memory fondly. she was significantly older when kaia was born compared to all of her other sisters. it was the only time she truly appreciated having a baby sister. the day she was born isla knew that she would do everything to protect her. she still tried to do that even after getting kicked out. “ i was wondering if we would ever see each other again, kai. though i’m afraid you don’t remember me. “

Her head snapped in the other’s direction in disbelief. Not much of person around who share the knowledge about the song well. Not as well as the merfolks, anyway. If anything, it only makes everything becomes more clear ( more makes sense for her ). Why she seems familiar-- sounds familiar. Why she was drawn to her presence at the first place.

Callista doesn’t make friends often, not when there’s a lingering thought — many of them, actually — at the back of her mind. There’s always a danger that she manages to get herself caught in ; much of it can be blamed on the spirits themselves but they’ve been delaying her own death in a way that Callista can’t help but thank them by not ignoring them. “It’d be upsetting if it gets cancelled because of the weather but I guess you’re right —” She looks up at the sky momentarily, “I don’t think the sun’s going to leave us any time soon.”

The other’s smile is met with her own and Callista gestures to the empty space next to her. “Do you want to sit down?”

“--I doubt they will cancel it because the weather, though. I can only imagine the disappointment if they ever did.”

Kaia flashed a curt nod with another smile growing on her lips. There again, the disappointment, the feeling she wasn’t quite fond of. More after she’s the one who can actually feel it. Her brows knitted in a frown at the other girl’s offer. She was convinced that a little while ago, the girl was about to leave due to her presence. But, she can be wrong.

“--Sure. Anyway, I’m Kaia.”

“What do you mean you don’t have a choice?!” Leila asked, gaping. “I mean, if you don’t wanna go, don’t go, y’know? Unless you’re in the show… then that’d make more sense. But of course! Come along with!” She linked arms with Kaia and headed off toward the mall. “So, how was your day, anyway, Kaia? Anything new going on? Except the circus, obviously.”

“--I know. But it’s not like I have anything else to do, love. Besides, the day is too pretty to be spent moping around the flat on my own.”

Kaia flashed her a smile, thus allowed the brunette dragged her toward the place they were headed.

“--I was still looking for a decent job. Hopefully, after these whole Circus fun ends, I will find something else to do. How about you?”

Kaia had been waiting at the entrance of the backstage for a good fifteen minutes now. She can hear the crowd go crazy from where she stood, yet she had promised Chany to come to meet her after her performance end. Right when a flash of red mane coming to her view, she is sporting a grin and handed a small size bouquet of flowers in her arms.

“--Well, that was a great show. Congratulations!”

Her eyes lit at the sight of Rowan feeding himself with a rather big clump of bright blue ( her favorite color ) cotton candy in his hand. She let out a muffled laugh, while taking a bite from her third ice pop she had bought earlier.

“--Well, who doesn’t love a good bunch of sweets?”

– “Honestly, I’m morally opposed to the circus cause y’know, severe animal cruelty,” Rowan started slowly before shoving a big clump of blue cotton candy into his mouth, “but I really love cotton candy? Like, it’s a really good dessert. And aside from those pretentious, high end candy stores, it’s really hard to find good cotton candy, that’s cheap when there isn’t a circus or carnival in town.”

The day had been incredibly beautiful and couldn’t be more right to spend the day outside. Kaia was carrying her second ice pop as she sat the area just near the beach. Spotted a pair of eyes from her side looking at hers, she flashed them a bright smile before deciding to break the silence.

“--The decorations, the stands, or the Circus itself. I’m not sure which one of those that excites me the most.”

“--Actually, I have nowhere else to go but the Circus. It’s not like I have a choice, really. But, yeah, a cup of latte will be nice.”

“No, no, I don’t care for the circus but Chany’s gonna do her fire baton crap again so I have to go. I need to go the mall because I have nothing to wear tomorrow and that’s awful. If you accompany I’ll buy you a latte from starbucks!”

“ thanks—- “ isla automatically spoke before turning to see the source of the compliment. though upon turning she couldn’t believe her eyes. it was her baby sister. frankly, isla never really cared to know if her family had survived. except for kaia. she was so young when isla was kicked out, too young to realize that isla was different from the rest of their siblings.too young to hate her for what she really was. kaia always held a special place in isla’s heart, no matter how their other family members treated her. from time to time isla would sneak around, checking up on her and making sure she was never seen. breaking the silence once more she asked, “ you know the song ?? “

“--You’re welcome.”

Kaia murmured softly, right before her eyes met the owner of the voice. A surge of memory washed through her, almost as if she had met the other person before, long before this. She pressed her lips together into a thin line as she makes her way closer to the other.

“--Well, my sisters once taught me about the song and I’ve been remembering the lyrics ever since..”

It’s the third time of the day, she found herself standing at the very same spot. Although this time, Kaia was on her own, hence the other person who was singing a familiar tune to her ears. She pursed her lips, contemplating to hear more, as the wind gently blew her hair away from her face, bringing the sweet melody seeping into her soul.

"--It’s.. beautiful.”

Kaia murmured after she cleared her throat, making her presence become known by the blonde who was still fixated over the wave before them.

“ upon one summer’s morning, i carelessly did stray, down by the walls of wapping, where I met a sailor gay. “ isla had been singing quietly to herself for hours now, staring out at the water. after work she had chosen to hang out by the marina to pass some time. “ conversing with a bouncing lass, who seem’d to be in pain, saying, william, when you go, i fear you will ne'er return again… “ it had been a song she sang for as long as she could remember. it was safe to say she was so entrapped staring at the waves that she hadn’t even noticed another person nearby.

After her afternoon dip in the ocean, Kaia makes her way to the town after making herself presentable. The day was unbearably warm, she had to make a quick stop to the nearest park to cool down a bit. Her gaze lands upon the blonde who was sitting not far from where she stood. At her greetings, the mermaid musters the widest smile she can offer and walked a few steps closer.

“--Probably. The last time I checked, they’ve been arranging the stands along with the tent.”

she chips away at her bright pink nail polish, distracted. a book is open on her lap, a few tarot cards placed in a neat order — one, two, three, four. callista has been out of practice, often relying on what the spirits tell her rather than what the readings do. she picks up a noise coming from somewhere near her and, as if instinctively, packs up her things and brings her coffee to her lips. “hi.” her greeting comes up short, she’s not done bringing herself back to earth. “it’s a nice day today, huh? i hope it stays that way for the circus — that’s still happening, right?”

Hiya !! My name is Aria and I’m coming from the GMT + 7 timezone. It’s really lovely to meet y’all, and I’m so excited to plot with all of you!

Below the cut is several facts about my baby, Kaia.

BARBARA PALVIN • KAIA DOUGLAS (CIS FEMALE, SHE/HER) is a TWENTY year old MERMAID residing in Bright Haven, having had come from SOULMERIA. I heard that their inborn gift is TELEMPATHY. Now, they’re an UNEMPLOYED and blend in really well. A lot of people say that they’re COMPASSIONATE and HARDWORKING but also STUBBORN and SUSPICIOUS.

Long story short..

Kaia is the youngest of the Douglas siblings. Even since she is still fairly young, it’s obvious that she is a true Pure Merfolk born. Her smile is too charming to simply brush away from everyone’s attention, let’s not forget her sweet yet enchanting voice. She has gotten used to be a center of the attention among the crowds and she secretly enjoyed it, more than she wants to admit.

She is relatively close to every single member of her family, including Isla. She was still at a tender age ( tbd. ) when the eldest among her siblings ‘left’ almost of a sudden. There are not much of an exchange of words, nor a gentle touch against her cheek from her sister dearest. All she remembers was the sight of her sister’s back facing her, as she walked through the door.

Since then, her parents and her other sibling(s) refrain themselves from begin any conversation regarding Isla, instead distracts her with another topic on hand whenever she was asking about her sister’s whereabouts. It’s almost like an effort to erase every single entity and cease a slight gap of memory about the eldest of the Douglas siblings to grow inside her mind.

Barely able to grasp on anything but the slight memory of her, Kaia was more than determined to find her sister and look for the answer no one can offer, about why their parents disowned her.

aia is currently unemployed after she graduates. SO, she definitely wants to find a suitable job ( much to her parents dismay ) since they knew the real reason was to do is something else than do the work itself.

I think that’s it so far?

I will definitely add more to this in the future since I just recently discovered my muse for Kaia like yesterday ( thanks to Julie and K !! )
