Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Character Love
Tumblr media
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is my favorite Smash Bros. game in the series. What really endeared me to the game was that all characters from previous titles in the series made a return after not being included either for one or more games. There were also quite a number of new faces to join in the Smash Bros. fun. Inkling, Ridley, Ken, Simon Belmont, Richter Belmont, King K. Rool, Isabelle, and Incineroar were included at the start with other characters being added as DLC. There are still 2 more characters to be announced, but the extra characters that were added to the game were Piranha Plant, Joker, Hero, and soon to be added Banjo & Kazooie. Smash Bros. has always been a series about putting some of the most well known video game characters in history and the advent of DLC simply allowed new faces to be added whenever. Due to Smash being such a well known franchise, many developers and fans make requests to have characters to be added to the roster and I have one character in mind myself. I would love to see Shantae from the Shantae series be added to the roster as then I would have two of my favorite characters in the game, Bowser being my number one favorite. However, should Shantae not get into the game I will still play it and simply hope she gets added in the next iteration. That said, while Bowser is indeed my favorite I still love all the characters as they all hold precious memories from my younger days.

My Thoughts on Behemoth in Monster Hunter World
Tumblr media
I recently beat the Behemoth in Monster Hunter World (MHW) with a few friends of mine. I would like to take this time to now give my opinions on Behemoth now that I truly defeated him. Behemoth comes from the cross-over event MHW had with Final Fantasy 14 (FF14), where Behemoth is a boss that can require a full 8 people to kill reliably. As a boss in FF14, Behemoth is excellent and can become easy once you know the phases he goes through at certain stages of health. As a monster in MHW; however, Behemoth does not truly fit the gameplay style, in my opinion. Whereas in FF14 there are area-of-effect tells that show how much an attack will cover in area, in MHW there are no AoE tells for many of his attacks. This can result in the player thinking they are out of an attack and still get hit by it. Behemoth’s Meteor attack is a prime example of this. Then there is the fact that Behemoth has one move that can kill the player from anywhere on the map, Ecliptic Meteor. If the player is not behind a special Comet the Behemoth summons throughout the fight, then they will die and if it happens to multiple people then the quest is over as the players only get 3 faints without the use of a special food skill. Another problem I have with Behemoth is that certain attacks will follow their target to anywhere on the map and the fact that the move Charybdis lasts far too long and can combo you to death if you’re stuck in a corner. Overall; while including Behemoth is an interesting concept, I find that he does not fit the gameplay style enough to be comfortably fought against multiple times without some stress being accumulated.

My Time Playing Kingdom Hearts 3
Tumblr media
I would like to take the time to share my experience with Kingdom Hearts 3(KH3), in terns of gameplay not the story I’ll talk about the story at another time. Playing KH3 was incredibly fun for me as I think SquareEnix found the perfect balance between combat and platforming. In my opinion, KH3 is the true result of combining the first Kingdom Hearts platforming with the excellent combat of Kingdom Hearts 2. It is through this that I believe Square realized their mistake when making Kingdom Hearts 2 more arena based in the base build of the game. The added mechanic of Flow-Motion to KH3 also helps speed up travel and fights that will spawn at certain points on the map. The combat system for KH3 I think is the best in the series by far, as it feels like they built upon the combat system in KH2. The addition of the Attraction attacks along with being able to use more powerful spells after using that same spell in a combo really does make the fights all the more interesting to watch and experience. Then the Forme-Changes for the different keyblades allows another flashy option to handle a fight. Each Forme-Change is different for most keyblades and are always fun to use. Overall, Kingdom Hearts 3 is a very fun game to play and I do recommend it based purely on it’s gameplay.

Spyro Re-Ignited Trilogy pt. Finale
Tumblr media
To bring my discussion of the Spyro Re-Ignited Trilogy to a close, I want to talk about Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon. Spyro 3 is tied for my favorite game in the trilogy with Spyro 2. The same amount of TLC that went into the first two games was also given to Spyro 3; however, I did have my fair share of problems in the form of the skateboard racing mini-games. I feel like these mini-games were made harder than what they were in the original release in terms of control for doing tricks. Doing tricks feels a lot more stiff than the original and as a result, I did have a hard time completing the racing segments of the skateboarding mini-games. There were also moments that because I was trying to do a trick to gain boost meter that I fell off the course or crashed into the ground, thus losing my position or losing precious time to catch up with first place. Despite this, Spyro 3 in the Re-Ignited Trilogy is still a fantastic remaster and I do recommend to anyone to give all three games a try if you like collectathons.

Spyro Re-Ignited Trilogy pt. 2
Tumblr media
Continuing on with my discussion of the Spyro Re-Ignited Trilogy, I want to talk about Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage. This is once again a well done remaster of the original, but I did have some issues particularly in the boss fights with Gulp and Ripto. In my times playing the original release of Spyro 2, I never took so much damage in the boss fight against Gulp as I have while fighting him in the remaster. Gulp appears to have been given a much larger hit box on his body slam attack when compared to the original fight. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I got hit by the body slam when playing the remaster for the first time. It was definitely aggravating as many times that I got hit, I was clearly not close enough for the body slam to count as a hit. With the boss fight against Ripto, I ran into a glitch where I had to fight the first phase of the fight alongside the second phase. This made getting the orbs, which you need to collect to damage Ripto, quite difficult to collect as both Riptos would go for different orbs. Not to mention the fact that if both collected three orbs, they would attack at the same time making dodging nearly impossible. Despite these two boss fights, I throughly enjoyed the remaster of Spyro 2.

Spyro Re-Ignited Trilogy pt. 1
Tumblr media
Spyro Re-Ignited Trilogy is a fantastic remaster of the original Spyro the Dragon trilogy. I will be addressing each game in the Re-Ignited Trilogy as its own blog. The remaster of Spyro the Dragon was, in my opinion, expertly done. While keeping faithful to how Spyro controlled in the original release, the controls were updated so that Spyro felt a lot more fluid and easier to control. However, there were times where certain jumps that were easy to complete in the original release are either a bit more difficult to complete or some gliding jump sections appear to have been placed further away as I seem to just barely make it to the platform, even when jumping from the edge of the starting platform. An example of this is in the level “Dr. Shemp” where in order to get a collectible you have to do a glide from a tower to a small platform, but I always just land on the edge of said platform. Other than that, I had no problems with the remaster of Spyro the Dragon as it’s simply the original game given a nice dose of TLC.

Final Fantasy 14 A Realm Reborn
I have been playing quite a bit of Final Fantasy 14 recently. So much so that I am currently level 50 with most of the combat classes. I find that being a Tank or DPS to be much easier and less stress inducing than playing a Healer. To get my levels I grind out dungeons; however, I will be grinding a dungeon known as the Aurum Vale for the special weapons you can get at the end after beating the boss. So far I have the daggers, thaumaturge wand, bow, lance, and fists. It was also this dungeon that allowed me to get the level requirements to get two classes that I already love, the Samurai and Red Mage. I will keep playing for a long time as FF14 simply gets a lot of things right. The story for the game gripped me very early on, side quests can either be funny or dark, combat is rather simple to understand and you can practice on various test dummies that are placed in different settlements, dungeons can be completed very fast depending on the other players you get to play with you, and getting better gear is always a sense of accomplishment as you start to feel like your truly getting stronger as you go through the game. However, this is only the base game. I have yet to go to the expansions, but I know I’ll still have as much fun that I’m currently having with the base game.

Kill la Kill -IF- Demo
I recently tried the demo for Kill la Kill -IF-. The 3D arena fighter that will be released tomorrow. While I’m not the most experienced with 3D arena fighters, I can say I enjoyed playing the demo. Of the four characters we got to choose from, Satsuki and Ryuko were surprisingly my favorite choices. The reason I was surprised was because I typically like to use the heavyweights or juggernaut characters in fighting games. The mechanics for the game, despite it being only a demo, were solid and I didn’t feel like I was being cheated by the game like I do with Tekken 7. Super attacks were easy to execute as long as you had “valor” to use. Combo attacks were the right amount of flash and being decently easy to execute. Overall, I give the demo for Kill la Kill -IF- a big thumbs up. I truly enjoyed this demo and plan to buy the full version whenever I can.
