Copywriting: The Art of Writing for the Masses
Tumblr media
Writing for businesses has existed for longer than you think.
Actually, advertising copywriting dates back to Babylonian times, but we can start counting the history of copywriting as we know it today since 1477 when the first printed material with the purpose of selling something -which in this case was a prayer book- was distributed in the streets.
Copywriting refers to writing words to sell products or services, and the person who does this is a copywriter.
Copywriters differ from regular (or should we say literary) writers in the sense that style is not the most important trait to a copywriter, but the ability to say a lot with less.
Copywriting has its own rules, which we are going to list here:
Write Catchy headlines
Use common spelling
Avoid hyperbole and fancy words
Call the reader
Write as if you were talking to someone
Work from a framework to get straight to the point
Stick to nouns and verbs, adjectives and adverbs are just fillers
Do not forget to proofread
Never overwrite
Don’t overstate your claims
Be clear
Don’t overuse metaphors
Make every word count
Copywriting is the art of using words to communicate a specific message. It's what you see on websites, advertisements, and brochures for products or services that are not always tangible goods. In essence, copywriters use language as their tool in order to make it more appealing than just text; they want readers to feel like they can't wait until something becomes available so that they can get started!
