Mere minutes after birth, a two-headed plesiosaur calf passes away. The mother stays with it, drifting alongside the dead calf and away from her pod without eating. Occasionally she dives to retrieve the body when it sinks, before eventually leaving it behind and rejoining her pod.

Inspired by the story of Tahlequah the orca, who in 2018 remained with her dead newborn for 17 days.

Gettyia gloriae

This Sunday's doodle was an exercise in birds! Gettyia is part of a clade of Enantiornithes called the Avisauridae which appear to have raptorial adaptations, being the late Cretaceous equivalent of hawks. Compared to its relatives Avisaurus and Mirarce, Gettyia is much smaller, and less well represented, being known only from a right tarsometatarsus. But the tubercle for the attachment of the tibialis cranialis muscle is much further distal than in other enantiornithes and slightly moreso than it's larger relatives. This is an adaptation for exerting grip pressure when carrying prey (as modeled for Avisaurus). I imagine this little guy being more like a kestrel or small owl, where its relatives were more eagle-like.

I dont know if I've said it before but it would be so sick if we had planet zoo with dinosaurs.

Im not talking about "wow this is like jurassic park! Oh no haha your trex escaped and is eating people!" No i mean like planet zoo but instead of making sure your otters have enough enrichment you're like giving meat pumpkins to some kind of raptor

Also planet zoo for aquariums would be cool
