Kaito died instead during the magic trick that should have killed Toichi, and Chikage left soon after. Years and years later, the guest list at Toichi's funeral is rather lackluster. The Hakuba family and their extended relatives would be perfectly content to let life move on, but two weeks after the funeral, a package arrives. Nobody is safe. Someone amongt them killed Toichi, and a figure from their past is determined to snuff that person out.

What starts as the small oddball crew of a passing ship attempting to loot the drifting Tulpar becomes a rescue mission instead when it turns out they’ve arrived just before things have gone completely downhill.

The crew of the Tulpar were used to things going unsaid, conversations to keep secret, words held back. Curly hadn’t the time nor energy to untangle the tense truth lying beneath. This new captain however didn’t let things slip him by as easily.

The beginning of the end started at a gas station in the middle of nowhere, Jimmy and Daisuke far from the places they both once called home. Or maybe it had always been the end and Jimmy just hadn’t allowed himself to see it. Something about this stretch of highway looks familiar, but Jimmy may be dead before he remembers why. Jimmy never made it to Pony Express, instead becoming isolated on Earth, on a forever road trip with the rich kid he picked up years ago, and his past haunts him in more ways than one.
