there were many ways to respond, but . . . none of them could have possibly helped the situation. wasn't it the need for those better than others to keep the status quo? when it was necessary. most likely not ( grand would never admit that ). war and fighting and the like was inevitable. pain and suffering were after thoughts of this existence. that was all it was.

     “Life is exhausting. Waking up one day to learn everything you’ve ever known is a falsity is exhausting. Knowing that you’re so many things to the galaxy is exhausting. It does not matter.” Regardless of how he personally felt, he would do what was necessary and keep whatever people thought of him. Not because of want or need - no, it was because it was because it kept him stable. It kept him safe.    “What I happen to be seen as does not matter. Be it a man, a monster or even a destroyer of worlds. It does not matter. In the end the divergence, is only that they will know half the story. Half of what is and half of what is not. Nothing more or less.” Not that it mattered - he was what he was. Nothing more.     “Consider on one had who I am. Really am and compare that to what people believe and it’s easier to opt for that persona. Rather than the truth.”

Hugh bristled. This man not caring about his people- at least he didn’t know they were ex Borg. To Hugh’s knowledge.

He was given the ten minutes. He didn’t trust it. He had to keep stalling. He sent a quick explanation to Two. He owed them that much, if he didn’t get out of here.

“Thank you, for allowing us time to leave.” The way the man said it was to die for sent a shiver of terror down Hugh’s spine. “My people have already begun leaving the surface. Please allow them space to get away.”

Two was scared. They wanted Hugh to find them. Hugh couldn’t. Not yet. “How can I make this easiest on you?”

Hugh was scared, too. He was still shaking.

‘It’s to die for’ echoed in his mind. The emphasis on ‘die.’ Hugh didn’t want to die. He didn’t want his people to die. He didn’t know how long he’d have once this sequence thing would get going, but he didn’t want to find out. 

Manny messaged him saying he was running around making sure everyone was leaving. A spike of panic went through Hugh- Two and Manny were still on the surface. Hugh responded telling him to leave as soon as the checks were done, do not wait for him, Hugh could use another ship to get out.

Manny wouldn’t be happy about that.

Hugh’s heart beat faster. Scared. So very scared.

Ten minutes was not enough time for anyone, but it was what he would give. Not because it was necessary, but it was an aspect of mercy. Grant could have actually given them half an hour or more, but he was going to ensure this threat was eliminated. no matter the cost.

No matter who was left behind.

He would succeed in his mission. Failure was not and would never be an option.

“I have no care about your people,” Grant says as he flicks a few switches and makes a few calculation's. The numbers were off, but he didn’t care - he did them two more times before shaking his head and flicking yet another switch.

“What I’m hunting is a threat to everyone. Your people included.” There was a long pause before he spoke again. “It’s not out of anger, i’m doing this, but survival.... for all. These... beings killed off my people and I’m simply returning the favor.”

“Surely, you can understand.”

Frozen bodies suspended in zero gravity (oooh the vibes thoughー)

They both stood there before the scene before them: countless bodies - twenty? thirty? fifty? who knew how many were on this damned ship.

Artificial gravity had been down for who knows how long. The ship was heavily damaged with an opening on the port side - leaving it open to space, but in here.... it seemed to be sealed off. It was still habitable and yet . . . . everyone in here was frozen. it wasn't as sealed as one would believed.

Flickering lights lit up the hallway and the room - almost about to go out, but somehow it stayed on. A small amount of music was playing from another room -somehow- it was still playing, even if everyone else on this godforsaken ship was dead. They had to be dead.

"Well.... we were not the first one's here." Grant says bluntly, glancing down at the pad on his hand. "We most likely won't be the last."
