Initial failed final board trial, which prompted me to think differently and change my perspective entirely of how I handled my materials

Trialling paste application
After creating a couple of boards which were far from what I consider to be refined and complete, I decided to make a test board to narrow down the technique of applying the wallpaper paste.

More chiaroscuric edits
I have decided to further pursue the style of the darker photographs for how well they seem to take to the wallpaper paste finish and for overall feel.

Exhibition works being prepared
Cutting down 8ft panels to be 7ft high, being smaller than the walls I’m located at for the exhibition and then covering them in bin bags to protect against weathering.

Large scale tile print
My initial attempt with this board did not go as well as I thought it would originally. Even though I lined every piece up neatly, the white of the paper would still show through. The finish looks quite dirty as the black acrylic has lifted from the board and gone into the wallpaper mix and there are tears and a mass of creases.
I have thought of some adjustments I could make to combat these problems and I shall tear this version down and start again to trial them.

Second collage
After my intitial attempts today, I feel that it is important not to try and force creativity to fit into a plan. Creation is not necessarily a fixture within a routine, rather a spontaneous (and often accidental) response to your subsconscious mind. I find that I make my best work in a spur-of-the-moment; through mindless yet mindful decisions that come naturally. I have to be in the right mindset at that moment in time to create compositions I deem valuable enough for refinery and progression; if I move forward with or pursue manufactured thoughts/studies, I’ll never be truly contempt with the outcomes they achieve.

First collage from the photoshoot.
Due to the amount of layering and pockets I had to make in order to stylise this piece, there were many marks made on the surface. However, to finalise the piece, I’ll need to run it through photoshop anyway. I’ll be able to edit out the marks and scrapes so that the finished physical copy shall be much more refined and professional

Tonal edits of photographs I took of a dead tree in YSP
I originally took these out of the blue when walking between exhibits. The shape and form of the tree trunk was something I saw potential in. I found it odd that this intrigued me more than the actual pieces in YSP. I’m finding that I like to observe the world and pick it apart to create a new image, rather than having to look at a production of somebody else’s perception, at times. I believe it’s important to reflect on yourself.
