With its Freudian emphasis on dreams and spontaneous, automatic, or unconscious production, Surrealism was a technical forerunner. Jackson Pollock's approach of using spontaneity is splashing paint onto a canvas on the floor. It was unique and brought several aspects into play—action: the artist's movements and how they worked.
