Experiencing Cultures Have you ever imagined what it would be like to experience the festival or culture of a different country? In this technological world, it is not entirely challenging to go on the internet and search about it and participate virtually. But one couldn't stop themselves from wishing to be present physically. With the Culture Hub you can do just that. You won't have to travel somewhere to experience that, instead it would come to you.
I had to create a small space/structure to hold things and 'ideas' that are important to me in the context of a place that I am familiar with, both literally and psychologically. I'm originally from India. As an example, I chose Ganesh Chaturthi, because this festival is near and dear to my heart, so I wanted to create a space where it was possible to experience it all over the world.
How did I determine the roofing system? I was always fascinated with dome structures whenever I visited some ancient or historical place. They are curved structures that enclose a massive amount of space and have no angles or corners. This attracted people because they could be constructed without the use of a single column. I didn't want to go with just a plain arched structure, so I opted for a Geodesic dome. A geodesic dome is a geodesic polyhedron-based hemispheric thin-shell structure (lattice-shell). Because the dome's triangular elements are architecturally rigid and distribute structural strain all through the formation, geodesic domes can endure very heavy loads for their size.
How did I decide the location? Some people prefer beaches, and some prefer mountains, but I like to enjoy both at the same time. The lake combines the characteristics of both places very beautifully, providing the relaxation and calmness of the beach as well as exploration and experience of wild nature. Interiors. I prefer a minimalist theme, just like Scandinavian design. However, I also wanted to show the authenticity of Indian culture through my design. So, I tried to combine those two elements to the best of my ability. I used traditional Indian design to show the authentic culture of my nation; for example: upholstery and carpet rug, I took inspiration from Rajasthan, Amritsar which resembles Old Victorian style. To make it more traditional, I used oil lamps instead of table lamps to conjure up the natural element of soothing and calmness. The whole thing is constructed from wood, and it is easily movable as it could be detached from one place and attached to another without much effort. Authentic Victorian streak lights are used instead of tube lights to go with the traditional concept. The area is huge and circular in geometry. There are different zones inside, such as there is a place where you can dine with your family, or with your significant other; you can dance as well to the arranged orchestra. There is a stage area where the main event will occur where I have put the idol of Ganesh ji, but you could do anything there as you wished. You could organize a traditional wedding here too, etc.
CONSTRUCTION It can only be moved from one place to another nationally, not internationally for now. If you want to show the same event in some other country, you will have to build it from scratch. You can even change the elements of interiors as you like according to the events you are organizing. For example: Weddings or birthday parties or baby showers.
