Musings about Fubblegum and the episode “The Pajama War”

I’m one of the veeeery few people who have always shipped Fubblegum ever since I started watching and never left the ship for another one (like Flinn or Bubbline).

Regarding my take about their feelings for each other… I always thought that Finn still loved Peebs even though he was with FP back then. During Finn’s relationship with FP we were hinted of Finn’s lingering feelings for PB in episodes here and there (such as King Worm and All the Little People). His feelings still being there became clearer though after the breakup (in Too Old, Rattleballs).

And about PB to Finn, I also always thought that PB liked Finn too, and I don’t buy that her feelings for him only existed when she’s younger. Most of the “rejections” by PB were only there because of either being Finn’s advances being romantically immature, or PB being more concerned with her responsibilities, or both (Too Young, Incendium, Too Old). Still, it was one of those stuff that’s pretty much debatable and can go both ways.

Both issues, Finn’s immaturity and PB’s sense of responsibility (aka tyrannical tendencies), have been shown to be no longer an issue as of the episode “The Pajama War”. Before this episode, Finn was shown to be immature when it comes to love and dealing with his father. But with the episodes Breezy, The Tower, and The Pajama War, we see that Finn has finally matured with these issues. (Also looking back at it, PB had significant influences in those episodes on Finn.) About Peebs’ increasing obsession with responsibility, it took its peak in the episode The Cooler with all that spying and deception that FP hates, but with FP’s influence she decides to be more chill now, which effect we see in the episode The Pajama War.

I see lots of posts that deny the romantic content of the episode and insist the super platonicness of their love. Whether you think that or otherwise, (that sunset googly eyes scene though…), this episode, at the very least, shows that the obstacles that prevented from Fubblegum from happening, their maturity gap and PB’s intense sense of responsibility, is now gone, and their relationship can now progress in a very natural way. People can deny the romanticness of it all but it’s now hard to argue for it not happening. :)

I've always wanted to make a lyric comic and I kept seeing people making animatics with this song I decided to jump on that trend! Except this took so long to make that now I've kinda missed it 😅

People overlook things like this and think finn and pb dont have feelings for each other anymore. When in truth finns feelings never went away, his mind has moved on but his heart didnt .

In episode "dont look" we learn that finn sees pb as a normal dude and not for what she actually looks like.

It almost seems like finn is forcing his mind to see pb as a normal guy so he wouldnt complicate things bcs of his heart.

In the elements arc we can clearly see finn suppresses his feelings for pb to protect their friendship. He knows he cant be with pb bcs of the circumstances and he burries his love.

But in later episodes we can still see that he tries his chance with pb again and again . His love ner fades away. Pb is her true love.

Remember when an imagination of Pb did what every girl in Ooo couldnt ? Finn's heart filled with joy and that caused his flower to blossom. Even though he knew they cant be together, even though finn knows he shouldnt fall for her and hurt the friendship they have, he cant help it. Finn's heart will always be belong to Princess Bubblegum. True Love stuff.

Burned

I revived my old fanfiction.net account and posted the Fubblegum story I wrote for HVK. They were asking for a cover image so I made a quick little drawing. After a while, I realized, “ZUKO!” from looking at the injuries Finn received in the story.

Looking back at my old stories make me smile. And cringe.
