really strange how you can be almost at peace with something that happened to you but it will continue to be a defining moment of your life for the rest of your life. you wont think about it much anymore but in a conversation about a film someone will mention the year it was released and you’ll think to yourself, “that was before it happened” and you’ll see an old photo and think how strange it is to have existed before it happened and somehow it’s like living a life in two acts

Have you ever stumbled upon a homestuck fic so old it doesn’t even have the trolls involved?

I don’t remember which one it was, but it held a fun specific to that era of hs. Where the fics were riddled with feel-good-best-friends-just-kids-fucking-around-and-figuring-out-shit. Heavy analysis and expansive study of characters are so intrinsically linked with hs now that it gives me whiplash to see work without it. Don’t get me wrong, I love the analysis, but there is something so charming about hs fandom and fic in the very past. Made me nostalgic for an era I wasn’t even there for. Made me want to paint this, just a bunch of goobers fucking around in some overgrown lot. Simpler times, I guess.

i have such a love/hate relationship with how the homestuck fandom existed in 2012. it really was a fucking Experience.

things are so quiet now. some of you guys have NO IDEA what shit went down. the askblogs. the lyricstucks. upd8s. mspaprophet. senorpacman, kylee henke, octopimp, broadway karkat, ikimaru, zamii070, shubbabang, paperseverywhere, miraculoustang. sadstuck. unsealed paint. strider hair angles are sideburns debate. fandomstuck. sharpie bath. promstuck. the dave/bro Normal Family Dynamic. msparp, cherubplay, trollmegle. terezi cosplayers licking things they should never lick. karkat cosplayers getting metal buckets thrown at them. the dad/bro ship. "wweh". hiatustuck. pantskat. David Elizabeth Strider. 4chords. using google goggles on the new update pages. march eridan. petstuck. in-character cosplay panels. newgrounds crash. the infamous bucket video. sugoi quest for kokoro. aquariumstuck. two $10k OCs. spin the faygo. "fuckass", "jegus", and "gog". jake english cosplay elitism. the caucasian panel. paradox space comics. "do NOT read a webcomic called homestuck." referring to hussie as a god, permanently inflating his ego. the yaoification of every male in the comic. johnkat vs johndave. people sexualizing tavros' decapitated head kiss. homestuck is my favourite anime. squiddles is a real show. the panty raid comic. the crowdfunded horse dildo that was actually sent to hussie's house.

like it was just such a uniquely enormous fandom and that allowed the worst and best possible things to happen. most of the popular homestucks have deactivated or just don't post anymore. some fanworks are just lost to the sands of time. it will never be as big as it was. all we have is nostalgia.
