My submission for the Homestuck Redraw, page 300! The animation was super tricky to figure out since i don’t animate much but i’m really happy with it! I’ll be doing page 280 next.

Going back to similar head-canons circulating about the anatomy of troll horns, a plausible explanation to horn sensitivity fanon is brought down to the fact that the horns have sensory ‘hairs’ like crustaceans that are sensitive to touch and smell - however another headcanon which is equally good is that trolls (especially lowbloods) tend to settle their differences by sparring and head-butting with their horns - at first glance these two headcanons seems to cancel each other out (after all, why would you want to put valuable, sensitive sensory appendages in harms why by risking them in combat?) however what if the sensitivity of the horns increases up the hemo-spectrum?
This would not only give an explanation for the sparring behaviour of the low-bloods, but would also mean that sea-dwellers would have the most sensitive horns, perfect in an ocean environment enabling them to sense minute changes in water composition and temperature.
It could extend to high-blood propaganda depicting low-bloods as dumb workers that are no longer in touch with their surroundings through frequent neglect of their most prized sensory organs, and equally lowbloods could take a dig at high-bloods for being too sensitive, relying more on elaborate weapons and battle-strategies to straight-up fighting. However adherence to this rule of sensitivity would vary more than high-blood seperation propaganda would allow to be known, as high-blood trolls could equally possess less sensitive horns (with a stigma of being brutish/insensitive attached) or could simply lose such sensitivity through frequent horn-combat. Or they could simply be so hardcore that they can use their horns in combat despite them being intensely sensitive.
In a more nsfw context, getting a low-blood off on stimulation of the horns would take some very skilled, but well-spent hours indeed, whereas a high-strung seadweller could just as well climax merely at the thought of having their horns touched. :o)

hi i have opinions on the topic of outward signs of aging in trolls that are half-justified by canon and half by self-indulgence, lms if you enjoy bodily functions with like .02% basis in real biology. Transcript/better explained notes in case my handwriting hurts your eyes as much as it hurts mine: HATCHLING: pale gray skin, no pupil or pigmentation (basically blind, uses touch and smell to move about the caverns). WIGGLER/YOUNG: after pupating, skin is ‘standard’ gray (will vary slightly from troll to troll), sclera have pigmentation that offers some protection from harsh light (obviously won’t save you if you stare directly at the sun), but limits vision somewhat. PUBESCENT: Pigmentation begins to break down around the pupil, letting in more light and allowing for better vision. When this occurs will vary from troll to troll. TEEN to YOUNG ADULT: pigment has broken down to make a clearly defined iris (roughly 20% of the eye), blood color shows through the now transparent tissue. ADULT to MIDDLE AGE: pigmentation continues to gradually break down, widening the visible iris (now anywhere from 40-60% of the eye depending on age). skin will also gradually darken/harden. OLD: skin is now very dark gray or black and hard (relative to young skin, tougher to damage but not impossible). pigmentation in eye is almost, if not entirely, broken down, leading to extreme light sensitivity (a boon in the dark reaches of space!). This makes the eye appear uniform in color, though the true iris itself only takes up a portion of the eye (the distinction between the iris’s edge and sclera is visible only up close).
do with this what you will, thank you for coming to my TED talk.

i’m not going to say much on this route…but proof that female trolls have bulges and nooks from Lanque himself since he is referring to Lynera here

One underemphasized part of a character with humanoid hands and claws like trolls would be the fact that their claws would need to be connected to bone to be useful. So the tips of their fingers and nailbeds would probably look different than ours

Thoughts on Rainbow Drinkers and their nutritional needs after I was reading about the nutritional value of blood for reasons. (Please note that these are all based on the assumption that Troll blood holds some basic similarities to human blood so please bear with me on any potential discrepancies.)
One of the biggest things about blood is that it’s very high in iron. To the point where a normal human consuming too much of it would be very likely to suffer from symptoms of iron toxicity. However, one thing I like to take into account is the idea that Rainbow Drinkers, for whatever their reasons, may be deficient in iron due to their peculiar makeup. Some symptoms of iron deficiency may include paleness, cold extremities, and cravings for things that aren’t food (pica). All things that I personally headcanon and associate with Rainbow Drinkers. So assuming that Rainbow Drinkers are indeed iron deficient, their consumption of blood makes up for that.
Also side headcanon with regards to normal Trolls because iron is the thing that causes blood to be red. Lowbloods have a higher concentration of iron, while Highbloods have lower iron levels. But because of their differences in blood volume, they both manage to stay decently balanced as far as iron levels. So a Rainbow Drinker might be able to get in a couple of pints from a Lowblood what they would need to take a couple liters to get out of a Highbloods. Again pretty much a nonissue since Highbloods have a higher blood volume than Lowbloods.
Blood in humans also has a high amount of sodium (about 9g of salt per liter). So perhaps Rainbow Drinkers may also have a sodium deficiency of sorts. One potential symptom of sodium deficiency is irritability, so it may account for some of their increased aggression.
Another side headcanon that is opposite to the iron headcanon. Highblood blood has a higher salt concentration Lowblood blood. Most useful in Sea Dwellers when they’re on land since the increased salt levels help them to retain water while they’re high and dry.
It’s estimated that, nutritionally, a liter of blood will contain on average about 350 calories. So even assuming that, being kind of mystical and presumably semi dead, Rainbow Drinkers don’t need as many calories as a fully living being to function, Rainbow Drinkers wouldn’t get a lot from one blood meal that they would need to survive. I presume that this means that normally Rainbow Drinkers drain a victim dry whenever they get their hands on them. (We know that Kanaya only drank a little bit from Terezi and Sollux, but she presumably drank Feferi for all she was worth.) So they may have long periods of low activity fasting followed by large gorges under the best of circumstances, and are constantly hungry in between (something we also see in Kanaya from comments by Karkat about how she stares at him and how she was so willing to purchase blood from Jane since she may well just need food).

this is an extremely meta parody of one bit of conversation between Rev and Mike on the homestuck stream (part 40, 2:15:11) like, this is such a layered joke at this point.
I feel a little weird that they were literally talking about my dumb quote compilation when they were saying this stuff, but hey... it all comes back around.
