Karley liked floating around the rink. It was like the nexus of drama in Kingscrest and Karley quite liked the sporting events there. However, Karley was there for more than just sports today.
Leaning her elbows against the rink wall, she watched Caroline skating all by her lonesome. Karley stayed quiet which was rare and undetected until she watched Caroline’s skate slip and fall right on her rear.
“Aw, wittle Snowbunny swide on the ice.” she teased, feigning tears. “Ya know, your balance probably wouldn’t be as shitty if you kept at it with a coach. Training would probably be a breeze for you. Every time you’d get tired all you’d have to do is smell your hands and that coffee bean smell would kick your brain back into action.”

Karley’s affiliation with the press wasn’t much of a secret, neither was how persistent she could be. Most people from Kingscrest knew that if Karley was walking your way you should probably turn around.
That still didn’t stop Karley from bugging people.
“Heard you might have something for me. And no, not drugs or fake passports. I mean something juicy. Although, if you do have either of the previous that I might be interested at another time. I digress, you got any news for me?”

armybratjames:
life feels better when you smile || open
James stood in La Bodega with a snickers in one hand and a kitkat bar in the other, trying to decide what he wanted to spend his last two dollars until tomorrow on. The thirty dollars he had left in his jacket pocket had mysteriously disappeared in the night, and while he was almost certain his dad had nicked it, he was not in the mood to start an argument with Rod while he was drunk. The fact that it was four in the afternoon stood as an indicator that his father was already well into whatever he’d used his son’s money on, and it just wasn’t worth the headache. Murphy set the kitkat down and moved to the cashier to check out, sighing as he smoothed out the two crumpled dollar bills before setting them on the counter. Tomorrow he’d leave the money in his account after direct deposit, instead of risking it going missing as cash at home.
The blond’s pocket jingled with the few coins he received in change as he walked out of the bodega, and started down the street. He had a couple of hours to kill before he had to go into work, and he decided that a little people watching would be easier than stopping home to pick up his gear for the rink. James plopped down atop a stout brick wall and kicked his heels against the stone as he ate his candy bar, eyes scanning the passersby. “How’s it going?” He nodded towards someone that looked at him, giving a chocolate coated grin.
Although her roommate was constantly nagging her to eat better, it only drove Karley to bring chips and junk home more out of pure spite. If she was going to die then she would die doing what she loved and, quite frankly, that was scooping french onion dip up with some Lays chips. So, Karley took a trip to the bodega to bring a bag, of what was bound to be another push to Ian’s buttons, home.
While weighing the pros and cons of cookie and cream vs chocolate crisp rice, Karley noticed the snowboarder and hockey player placing the kitkat back like a sad poverty stricken child in some Christmas movie. It took her 5 seconds to make a decision, 5 seconds to go up to the register after him, maybe half a minute of flirting with the cashier, and 3 seconds to pocket the left behind kitkat while the guy was distracted. Some could call it stealing, but Karley waved it off as generous acts in a time of recession.
The girl followed James until she found him sitting on the brick wall and people watching the people that probably could have afforded to get both the candies, unlike them.
“Happy National Egg day, kid.” she said, tossing the candy bar up to him and ignoring the fact that James was 2 years her elder. “Kitkats don’t have eggs, but whatever. It’s a holiday. Celebrate.”
Karley stuck the toe of her shoe in a divot in the wall and managed to hoist herself up after some grunting. “You know, you kind of look like Linus sitting up here. Ya know, from The Peanuts.” she stated, unwrapping her own candy and taking a bite. Mouth still full, she nodded her head and pointed at the kitkat she had gifted him. “If that shit tastes better than a regular chocolate bar that’s because I didn’t pay for it. Everything tastes 50% better stolen. You ever shove a small rotisserie chicken in your bra? It’s like fine dining in France.”
After a beat (and another bite of her Crunch bar), Karley cut to the chase with her intentions. “Heard a rumor that the skates took your ice again.” she started, pulling a voice recorder out from her pocket. “You got a comment about it, Mr. Murphy?”

Karley Bloom ( Margaret Qualley ) is a 20 year old journalist who works as a writer at Kingscrest Bard. She is from Kingscrest, CO and lives in East Vale. They’re driven and curious but can also be nosy and pushy. Sometimes, they’re known as The Journalist.
Tumblr media
About Karley
Her parents would certainly not win ‘Mom and Dad of the Year’. There was constant fighting in her house and her dad was a violent drunk. Because of how hectic her house was, Karley ran away from home a lot (mostly in the summers).
At one point in high school she ran away during the school year and missed about a month of school before getting found and getting sent back home. She never really talked about where she went/ why she left when she came back. The girl ended up doing summer school because of it and Karley pretended like it never happened.
Unless you grew up in Kingscrest you really wouldn’t know Karley had a shitty childhood because she's just always got a goofy grin on her face and trying to make people laugh.
Wrote for the school paper in high school because it gave her an excuse to not be in her house. She was pretty good at researching for stories because she would annoy the shit out of people until they’d break and tell her what she wanted.
Karley got an internship at Kingscrest Bard her senior year of high school and then was a coffee bitch until she got her associates degree at the local community college. Now she actually works for the paper, but a lot of it had to do with her being super pushy and annoying to her boss.
She moved out right at 18 so she was going to school, doing office work for The Bard, and juggling odd jobs to keep herself afloat. She’s only got her one job now, but she still has to do a bunch of penny pinching. If she goes out to a bar or something she’s that kind of bitch that will take unfinished drinks left on the counter and down them.
Never did any sports growing up, but she was always a fan. She likes the excitement of competitive sports and she’s got her favorite teams/ athletes.
She’s very independent and a jokester, but like once in awhile she’s just gotta go to the mountains and just scream. She doesn’t like crying or talking about deep stuff because she thinks if she starts then she won’t stop.
Horrible at expressing her emotions. 9/10 times will likely make a joke about it. She’s perpetually wearing a clown nose.
Teasing is her love language so if she cares about you/ likes you she’ll likely try to get a reaction from you.
Doesn’t have much of a filter so she’s not afraid to ask some pretty weird or blunt questions.
Karley is pretty nosy, but also very loyal so she likely won’t blast your business to the world if you’re her friend. If you’re not in her circle though then all bets are off.
Connections Ideas
Someone she wrote a story about that they didn’t like. Either she said some shit about them or they told her something they thought was off the record, but she published it.
Friends from Kingscrest that she grew up with. Maybe some of them she even would knock on their doors at 3am like “sup, can I sleep in your basement for 3 days?”
Someone she’s trying to write some gossipy piece about so she’s been following them around and bugging the hell out of them.
Exes (can be any gender) that probably ended poorly because it’s hard for her to take things seriously.
People she’s slept with or is currently boinking
Roommate(s) that are either her friends or they hate her because she’s always living her shit everywhere.
Someone that she thinks they’re friends but they just kind of find her annoying (like a Bojack and Mr. Peanutbutter kind of dynamic).
Someone who Karley butts heads with or an enemy of sorts.
